Aftergloam is a quartet from the outskirts of Los Angeles that play slow creeping, psych-laced shoegaze. I came across their latest Anatomy of an Elegy EP while sampling Lolipop Record 's roster and was struck by their balance. A lot of bands in the genre always have one overblown element, but Aftergloam blend their fuzz, feedback, and downtrodden vocals cleanly, allowing the melodies to float on the surface rather than bubble up from below. We were pretty taken with our discovery of Algernon Doll's debut long player, Camomile , last year. It was a record of uniquely off-kilter folk, and an often painfully raw and dark exploration of his struggles with extreme anxiety and bipolar disorder. Now he is back with a follow-up in the shape of Citalo-pop , which is out now via Common Records. So a man by the name of PV Nova from Paris, France did an interesting cover of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and it's glorious! Technically it's more like 11 covers, with each one representing how "Get Lucky" might have sounded if made in different decades (starting from the 19202s all the way up to an imagined 20202s sound). It sounds gimmicky, but the different takes on the various music eras are spot on and each segment is actually produced exceptionally well.
