Like all great journeys, this one too must come to an end. And by Sunday evening, as promised, no less! Just by virtue of how I ended up organizing this playlist, this part ended up being very, shall we say, "classic rock" heavy, so if that's not your thing, this probably won't be your favorite part of the playlist (in which case see links at the bottom for parts 1-3!), but I wouldn't steer you wrong, these are definitely choice cuts! Neon Indian: Deadbeat Summer ( Psychic Chasms ) [...]

Photo via Neon Indian's website Wow. You may be thinking the same thing too when listening to Neon Indian . Their breed of synthpop is chill-inducing, yet there is an upbeat feel and groove to their music, making it very danceable. If you doubt my praise, check out this article Rolling Stone did about the group last year; yes, they are that good. What started off as a one-man band with leader Alan Palomo, has since grown in popularity, Palomo's first release, Psychic Chasms , receiving a positive reception. Currently, [...]

From time to time I listen to music made by young, up-and-coming musicians out of neighborhoods near where I teach (I'm a music teacher in the Bronx). When the lyrics are appropriate for the little uns' ears - which is rarely - I bring in the track as example of what happens when you apply yourself. I usually try to throw in something like "this kid was surely quiet when the teacher was speaking," but we both know that's probably not the case. On that note, Washington Heights based MC Perrion is young, but he has excellent [...]
Put on your headband and throw on some tie dye. It's psychedelia at its finest by Neon Indian.

Outside of the blogosphere and the minds of Pitchfork affectionados, chillwave (perhaps as a result of it being brand new, perhaps because it sounds ridiculous) is seen as somewhat of a joke. Releases from chillwave artists (such as Washed Out , Toro Y Moi and, of course, Neon Indian ) over the last year or so have, despite being technically impressive and sometimes brilliant as well as superb for your indie cred, failed to reach the mainstream or do anything positive for the genre of chillwave when brought up in conversation. This new release from Texas-based [...]

New Album: Neon Indian - Era Extraña 'Era Extraña', (literally translated from Spanish as either 'Strange Era' or 'She Was Weird', depending on the context) is Neon Indian 's second album and follow up to 2009's Psychic Chasms, and is set to drop September 13th through Palomo's own Static Tongues imprint. It was recorded over the Winter of 2010 in Helsinki, Finland and precedes a full US tour with similar artists and fellow blog-favourites Com Truise and Purity Ring . 'Fallout' is the first single from the record, and is being [...]
Tweet It's chilly. It's wavey. It's the first full new song from the forebearers of the made-up genre that is Chillwave. Coming from the follow-up to the wildly successful 2009 debut "Psychic Chasms" , Neon Indian 's second album titled "Era Extraña" is coming out on September 13th (looks like that's gonna be a good day for new albums). If this first song "Fallout" is any indication then we're definitely in for more of the same ethereal and hazy electronic swimtrunks found on that debut, and [...]

Neon Indian has been one of the artists who has been forgotten about in 2010. It hasn't helped that there have not been many videos for last year's Psychic Chasms, but he is set to head back into the studio soon and to get excitement levels up, the video for [Read more]

Neon Indian have premiered the music video for " Mind, Drips ". The music video was directed by Lars Larsen and features the use of LZX Visionary, a new technology co-developed by Larsen which manipulates and creates images in the same way a musical synthesizer does for sound. The track is off Neon Indian 's latest album, ' Psychic Chasms '. Watch below.
As much as I like Neon Indian 's Psychic Chasms , I'm ready to start hearing some new output from the band's frontman Alan Palomo. I guess I'll just got listen to the album again. What other bands aren't putting out enough music? What bands are putting out too much music? Have you ever fallen out of a tree? -

Neon Indian at Virgin Free Fest 2010 (09/25/10) Photo : Jon Klemm There was nothing laid-back about the midafternoon set of chillwave standard-bearers Neon Indian - except that it took place in the fest's dusty, trippy Dance Forest, the spot where attendees were most likely to catch a contact high. This Neon Indian wasn't the same inexperienced group that delighted critics last year with its woozy, retro-minded art pop but disappointed live. Turns out frontman Alan Palomo and his band have significantly pro-ed up, something that [...]

It may be a late arrival to our rainy shores after being one of the best received albums in the US in 2009, but that doesn't mean those of us on this side of the pond shouldn't delight in this debut from Neon Indian ( MySpace ) right now. The whole album is a bizarre mix of lo-fi and a Nintendo resurrection of 80s pop, all warm and fuzzy. Some parts do go a little far into the 80s children's themetune sound like Terminally Chill , but on the whole the album picks you up [...]
