What with this being Rough Trade East and whatnot, there's no room for an elephant but it certainly feels as though there's one lingering around the Americana section this evening, such has been the seismic impact of the accusations levelled at Surfer Blood's epicentral John Paul Pitts. The most pertinent inquisition, therefore, is now not only how such a widely reported incident should be allowed to affect the band as an eight-legged entity, but so too how the nonliteral Nelly aforementioned may inhibit their performance and our perception thereof. This was always going to [...]

Destroying the veil of ‘pop punk’ they have somehow been labelled with, Sheena and Alex’s vocals bounce off the energetic drumming and crunchy guitar riffs to create something truly different.

Detroit troublemakers, Terrible Twos share "A Word and a World" a hardcore punk but melodic track from their upcoming album, Horror Vacui out on urinal cake records. Latin for "fear of empty space", Horror Vacui is the perfect description of their abrasive sound, thick with unsympathetic guitars, lo-fi synths, and arhythmic drumming, and, just look at the album art. They sing with a vaguely hopeless air over their caustic and spiky perambulations, "it will all make sense somewhere in time / let's just hope we're both alive".

Call it a list if you must, but an unnumbered one, about Public Image Ltd's First Issue. * Public Image Ltd's debut album, First Issue, was never officially released in the United States, on any format, until Light in the Attic put together their 2013 archival release. ( Light in the Attic ) * It wasn't supposed to turn out that way ( Trouser Press via Fodderstompf ) * Jah Wobble never played bass before being invited to join PIL [...]

Big Bill is an Austin band I've never heard until this weekend when I came across their brand new A Hard Day's Bill EP . They are a hard band to define because they weld so many influences into one big punk-powered machine, but the EP sounds like The Queers, Buzzcocks, Superchunk, and The Dead Milkmen unexpectedly commingling in an urgent situation. A Hard Day's Bill (EP) by Big Bill Overall, the EP is fast, frenetic, infectious, and off-kilter. Lead singer Eric Braden (aka [...]

Last Friday I headed out to Philly's favorite sweat box aka the basement of the First Unitarian Church to catch fast as fuck hardcore act Limp Wrist. I was still hurting pretty bad from the incredible Comeback Kid show I went to a few days before, but there was no way I wasn't going apeshit bonkers to the sweet, sweet sounds of Limp Wrist. The place was actually a lot more packed than I would have expected, and the queercore band brought out a rather diverse crowd of drunk punks, crossdressers, hardcore kids, crossdressing hardcore kids, etc... it [...]
Who here remembers the Crystal Method. They were kinda a big deal back in the days when EDM was called electronica. Does this jog your memory ? What about this one ? I ask this question because Fuck Button's new jam, "The Red Wing," plays out like a big beat slow jam from the days when The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and, yes, The Crystal Method were the big boys of Electronica here in the states. "The Red Wing," is a far cry from when this duo of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power [...]

The rather brilliantly named Imps Of Perversion is the title of Pop. 12802s follow up long player to The Horror . The first taste is the depraved, bad-trip sonics of Lights Out - all jagged, needling punk guitars and brutal RATM style vocals. Needless to say we're enormously fond of it already. Consider it the musical equivalent of keeping one mighty pissed monster in the basement - who has just discovered the door has been left unlocked... Have a listen - scare the neighbours. Follow [...]
Yesterday was one for the books! I headed to Williamsburg around 2pm or so to check out some of the Northside action. After grabbing a slice at Vinnie's Pizza on Bedford, where I overheard French tourists complaining that there wasn't any mayo to put on their pizza (WTF?), I went over to Muchmore's for The Teen Age. Bill from Gunfight is in the band and they signed to my buddies label, Papercup

Hooded Fang: Gravez - Someone once said, "A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down." I know exactly who it was and I'm not going to say, but I digress. The future diabetic and possible inventor of Dimetapp made a fantastic point: if you have to take something that is possibly unappetizing or unappealing, it's probably best to sweeten the deal. It appears to me that with the album Gravez , the rockers from our neighbors to the north ( Canada ), Hooded Fang , have done just that. Now, Gravez is [...]
Combining elements from across the heavy music board, Corrupt Moral Altar have created a perfect blend of thick sludgy riffs, hard-and-fast rock'n'roll and topped off with some catchy-as-fuck grooves and some pretty extreme vocals. - By Kat Preston

"Plymouth Fury ...is a loud and dirty project hitting the road since 2007, a maelstrom of noises coming from the basement inside the guts of Paris the grey. After their last release crumbling walls (2011 -fury prod) they're back with their first LP Vaudeville - Eight tracks of massive, rough and intense rock music." Parisian Garage-rockers Plymouth Fury show some fiery contempt for sensible volume levels and cynically manufactured Pop, the French trio pursue a intense low-fi buzz interwoven with ill-tempered drum beats and stabbing guitar riffs. At times 'Vaudeville' administers a carefully orchestrated Blues vibe, [...]
Videos to start the week from the acoustic Americana of the places in peril initiative of T. Hardy Morris to the weird party freaks of Fist City's Bad Kids, and the visual gymnastics of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros film for Better Days . Lastly we have the speed and fury of Radkey perfectly captured in this performance of Cat & Mouse . . . [...]
