The last time the long-running, Canadian power pop act, Sloan , came through Cleveland, they were celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1992 album, Twice Removed with a two set show which included the album from front-to-back and a second set of their greatest hits. Inspired by how well the anniversary tour was going, they mentioned how they'd record a new album and then do a similar event for the follow-up to Twice Removed, One Chord to Another. This made the Sloan fans happy. "It's In You It's In Me," is neither from an album of new [...]
Not only is this a good introduction to Orchid, but showcases a variety of styles from power-violence to emo to post-rock and rosters a ton of new and established bands to look into further. - By Kat Preston.

Canadian rock ‘n’ roll renegades Fist City will see a UK release of their album, It’s 1983, Grow Up on July 8th. The album is scheduled for release on Black Tent Press . Forming in Lethbridge, a smallish southern Alberta town, in 2010, Fist City gelled from the ashes of various punk bands to form a storming blend of garage-fuelled, surf-tinged, scuzzy rock n roll. This is one for fans of other F named bands like Fidlar, Fugazi, and Fucked Up . Liven up your day - watch the [...]

L.A. is rife with young punks straddling the line between aping their regional punk-predecessors and pushing the L.A. sound into new territory. Young local upstarts Shark Toys have crafted a sound that could be a direct line to the quirkiness of early L.A. weirdos like the Urinals, but their catchy, off-kilter song-writing, zipping toy keyboards and wild guitars could easily be the result of big-city kids having an early exposure to the skronky and unhinged Coachwhips or the wackiness of the New Zealand punks that solidified the Flying Nun scene. Fun as all get-out, their self-titled LP (recorded [...]

Sharks Selfhood Rise Records 29 April 2013 by Alex Andrews Something that doesn’t add up about Sharks is how publications like this very website – usually concerned with the heavier end of the musical spectrum – have come to write about them. Support slots with Gallows, Fucked Up and erm, Lostprophets have seen the band cast by certain sections of the media as the fresh-faced saviours of punk’s true spirit, while they’ve gone on peddling something closer to [...]
Conoce a Bleached.

Total Control // 7”s LP Now this I really like. Like really really. Featuring members of prominent Melbourne rock bands like The UV Race and Eddy Current Suppression RIng , garge punk rockers Total Control have concocted something really snappy. I initially looked into them because I heard that they would appeal to fans of Merchandise , but as listening would show, that comparison isn’t exactly the most apt. While they do get a bit morose on some of [...]

Shocking to probably many of you, Less Than Jake is still around and cranking out ska. Even more shocking to most of you, that music is still pretty damn good. Now I know that ever since they abandoned ska with their erhm ... pop-friendly In With The Out Crowd that they lost a lot of their older fans, including myself. However they had a return to form with their 2008 release of GNV FLA that was incredibly solid, and let me go ahead and say that their compilation [...]

Singer/Guitarist John Galm has freed himself from his emo roots and has gravitated towards the dark and sleazy side of garage rock with his new band Slow Warm Death . Galm, the former front man of Snowings and Street Smart Cyclist, has always favored sounds from the 50s and 60s but was inspired by recent recordings from Jay Reatard, The Oh Sees, and Ty Segall which led him to discovering older material from The Oblivians and The Mummies. This long string of lo-fi, fuzz-laced garage rock influences has been spun into a web [...]

It's been a while since we've succumbed to the anxieties of our overwhelming in-box, but succumb we have. Paperhaus released its alt-country styled self-titled EP in 2011, and will release its second effort, an EP entitled Lo Hi Lo on May 28th and it reflects the more pop side of Paperhaus' psychedelic music.
