It sounds like an old cassette tape demo recording from the seventies or eighties by an English garage- or punk band. Often I find it hard to hear the lyrics from the somewhat can-sounding vocals. It's straight, simple rock riffs without detours and extravagance. A combination I probably wouldn't have chosen for my music menu if it hadn't jumped into my inbox. But it feels good listening to this, and my foot starts moving with the rough guitar rhytms. And when the bass starts pumping with a wavy sound and is followed by the catchy guitar figure in "Trees Passing", [...]

I always love when musicians branch out a do different events on issues they strongly believe. Case in point, punk rocker "Crusty" Craig Lewis. On Friday June 7, Craig Lewis will be giving a lecture entitled "Punk Rock, Mental Illness and Recovery" at The Flying Brick Library, 506 S. Pine St. Craig has been a part of the Boston punk rock community since 1988. He has been active playing in several bands, putting out the long running Upheaval Fanzine and also set up DIY shows for 15 years. He also has lived with the symptoms of [...]

Japanther tries to expand their scuzzy lo-fi punk sound. Recess Records, 2013 6.3 / 10 Long Islanders Ian Vandek and Matt Reilly formed Japanther as an art project while they were students at...

Garage punk has always been an underappreciated genre. Being less politically charged than their hardcore punk compatriots, garage punk bands like the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion sought to capture the heart of early ‘70s bands like The Stooges and The Modern Lovers , creating a visceral blend of punk whilst retaining some humour and humanity. Although this movement basically lived and died with the ‘90s, its figureheads the Oblivians have decided to have another crack at the style [...]

It seems like with each new song Surfer Blood releases off of their forthcoming Pythons album, a unique range that is part of their fully-loaded arsenal of sound is re-introduced to the listener. Take for example their latest track "Gravity" which features a softer and poppier sound than some of their previous releases. Its not a new sound by any means that we haven't heard from these punk rockers before, it's just one of many that the band consistently pulls out and blows you away with. That alone is reason enough to make [...]
We all know punk never actually died. The question, “Is punk dead???” was proposed more out of nostalgic desire for the “golden age” of punk rather than genuine concern for its death. Nevertheless, Titus Andronicus stands as testament to the resilience and true spirit of pure, uncorrupted punk rock. As the creation of frontman Patrick [...]

Well this was a pleasant surprise. Just weeks before Man Overboard's new album is released, the guys took to youtube to stream Heart Attack in its entirety for all their fans to listen to. And with all that time until the new album is released for everyone to listen to and judge and talk about, you gotta think the guys are pretty confident in their work to knowingly allow that to happen. I gotta say that after listening through the entire album it is nothing but one great song after another. It plays [...]

The Wonder Years posted a stream of their new album The Greatest Generation earlier, and with it only a day away from its official release, what better time to listen to it than now. Featuring 13 tracks of pop punk ballads and anthems, the forthcoming album sounds as if it is a proper follow up to 2011's Suburbia: I've Given You All And Now I'm Nothing . Check out the stream below and if you dig what you hear, grab The Greatest Generation when it is released on May 14th... [...]

The Punk Singer What was I doing in 1990? I'd just graduated high school and was entering my first year of university. I'd been a music fan (mostly the alternative British music scene of the 80's and John Hughes films) and hadn't really delved too much into the indie music scene. The next year, Nirvana's "Nevermind" would be released, grunge would go mainstream and well, the rest is history. Back then I never really gave it a second thought that the music scene had been much of a boys club. So when a band [...]

"Garden State" suonava così bene). Le Screaming Females si formano in qualche punto del 2006, oppure quello è solo l'anno delle loro prime [...]

Here's a couple of tracks to taste Tyred Eyes' , hailing from Göteborg, latest EP "Ghost". They deliver a melodic, garage-sounding rock'n'roll punk where the two singers give everything in every song; music that feels like it's made for an emotionally charged and sweaty club gig. The band was formed in 2009 and has earlier released an EP and an album. Tyred Eyes' site - on Facebook - on Spotify - on Wimp - on Bandcamp

Imagine Saves the Day mixed with Tigers Jaw and Transit; Long Island's State Lines sound like a smooth Indie/Punk blend of the three, but also with their own kick. Formed in 2010, their raw, rustic turns and sharp edges combined with the raspy vocals of singer/songwriter Jonathan Dimitri keep them on the frontlines of today's LI scene. They even dress for the part, hoodies and all! They just recently released their sophomore full-length album titled "For The Boats" via Tiny Engines. You can listen to "Linger below" and three other new songs from the album here , [...]

Sharks Selfhood Rise Records 29 April 2013 by Alex Andrews Something that doesn’t add up about Sharks is how publications like this very website – usually concerned with the heavier end of the musical spectrum – have come to write about them. Support slots with Gallows, Fucked Up and erm, Lostprophets have seen the band cast by certain sections of the media as the fresh-faced saviours of punk’s true spirit, while they’ve gone on peddling something closer to [...]
