Amidst all the Grammys hoopla, Purity Ring releases this cover of Soulja Boy’s “Grammy”. It’s actually pretty awesome. Or should I say purity awesome?

purity ring - lofticries you know you've hit hipster mainstream when you get an awesome director like ag rojas working on your latest video. though this isn't really my fave track off their 'shrines' album, this is definitely my fave video from the canadian electro outfit. http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
With the diversity of today's music and it's manifold influences it's getting harder and harder to define it by just simple things like categories. Very often the solution seems to be found in creating a new genre or by combining different ones - this is why we have such new and fancy names like chillwave,

Here’s the video for 4AD’s Purity Ring ’s Lofticries . The duos glitchy ElectroPop album, Shrines , is sure to make more than a few ‘best of 2012’ lists and this track is one of the reasons why. The clip is a fascinating montage of character and location, directed by AG Rojas who seems to make the pact work with the track. Purity Ring’s ‘Shrines’ is out now. In this day and age of what some might call post-indie music (read this surprisingly poignant essay from Hipster Runoff's Carles about the supposed "death of indie"), recent newcomers such as Canada's Purity Ring represent the next wave of what many are calling post-internet electronic music along with fellow homeland act, Grimes . This past spring saw the release of the duo's debut album, Shrines , whose notable tracks " Obedear " and " Fineshrine " stirred up a blogging and social media-centric frenzy that propelled the [...]
Hot on the heels of last month’s feature on American SynthWaver Magic Sword , the man stopped by the electronic rumors Inbox with his latest reMix. 4AD’s Purity Ring get the reMix treatment this time as Magic Sword whips up their deep, dubby, shoegazey Indie-ElectroPop into retro synth frenzy. Magic Sword’s reMix of Obedear does the seemingly impossible. It keeps the moody atmosphere of the track but injects it with some deep Italo sounds. It’s an enveloping blanket of rich synthesizer sounds juxtaposed with a toytown electronic melody. Magic [...]
We first featured Purity Ring ’s third single ‘Belispeak’ in august of last year. Now, with the imbuement release of their début album on (4AD no less!), they’ve put together a video for the track. The 808 beats and warping synths mixed with Megan James’ epic vocal performance always needed is video with a large scale and this clip directed by BREWER, with some swampy cinematics has done the trick. Purity Ring’s debut album ‘Shrines’ is in stores 24th July. Buy Purity Ring’s [...]

Canada's PURITY RING have announced their debut album, Shrine , due for release on July 20. From the first release of the album ' Obedear ', Shrine sounds like anything but a debut, with Megan James ' vocals soaring over the delicate beats and vocal samples formed by Corin Roddick . With influences from 90s R&B, dream pop, and hip-hop, Purity Ring have a created a unique sound; it's intimate, yet public - you could easily hear them at a club [...]
Here's a chill, moody song. With their first official release on iTunes, Purity Ring present their new, awesome track, Obedear. Allstarr said it best, with another Canadian electro duo on board, get ready for a Canadian takeover! The lyrics are surprisingly deep for an electronic song and the ghostly voice will soothe you. Make sure [...]

The first track from the anticipated Purity Ring debut album 'Shrines' (due out on 24th July from 4AD) is the dreamy 'Obedear'. There's something in this song that reminds me of Grimes (another increasingly visible 4AD contender), perhaps it's the ethereal little-girl vocals, but whatever it is, I'm seriously liking the current wave of future pop sounds infiltrating the music scene. You can download 'Obedear' for free from the Purity Ring website: http://purityringsongs.com/ [...]

If you've never hear of Pitchfork, I don't believe you. Great blog, great site, love the Forkcast. I think everyone checks this one out but it's cause they keep the content like this fresh. "Lofticries" comes to us from the same Purity Ring 73 on Transparent that birthed "Ungirthed," a fizzy, post- Burial earworm that garnered BNT honors over at the Playlist back in January. Though every bit as kinetic as the A-Side, "Lofticries" relies more on its shadowy groove than any number of revolving, sunlit hooks. The single comes out next [...]

It’s been a few months since we featured Canadian deep ElectroPop duo Purity Ring so it’s high time we dropped their third track, ‘Belispeak’. It’s quite a stunning peice of work, encompassing shuffling Electro 808 beats with moody Minimal Synth-esque sounds and a truly epic vocal performance. There really is something special about the twisted innocence of the vocals working in tandem with haunting synthetics and almost Hip Hop beats. ♫ Purity Ring - Belispeak ‘Belispeak’ will be released [...]

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn’t care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy Sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. Why the delay? Well, I've been thinking. Lately I've been reconsidering the entire feature and it's purpose here. To be frank, originally [...]

Tweet Dovecote Records ' Summer '11 Sampler had a few surprises for us, including the Purity Ring rework of Hard Mix 's "Memories". While the original was good on its own, the rework further collages the already nostalgic track into a faster-paced, synth-poppy tribute. The Hard Mix discography has been free for some time now- so if you haven't picked up, now would be a good time. Connect with Hard Mix - [...]

I was at the All Things Go party the other night...ya know partying, when Josh played this song. In unison, two others and myself came up and asked, “Who is this?” In the first few seconds you’re instantly hooked. What makes a good pop song? Simplicity, sweetness, a bit of sadness, and a synth... [...]
