by teepoo So sometimes I let you guys decide what the playlist topic is, and you guys give me absurd things as jokes (I've already done badgers), so here we go here are some good songs about tomatoes. 1. Pink Martini- Hang On Little Tomato 2. Vangelis- Stuffed Tomato 3. Bérurier Noir - L'Empereur Tomato-Ketchup 4. Tuuur- Tomato 5. PRFLPWER- 5 Tomato Song [...]

Jen Davis - Matt and Kate [Madison, WI] (2008) There is no shortage of Great Songs of 2008 here at JustSayin... an offensively amazing Helen Keller dance prompt, a brilliant Elvis ode and impersonation, a promising debut EP by an 18-year old with a dream, a suprisingly relevant 8-bit Beach Boys reinterpretation, a piece of songwriting by a soulful cellist from Kentucky, and a [...]
Pic ©Nilina Mason-Campbell If last night's show at Worksound was offered by a travel company, I think the brochure would read something like this: "Out of the snow and hail of the outdoors and into the tundra." Yep, that was pretty much the name of the game when it came to entering a very chilly Worksound [...]

In case you haven't noticed, rock music is often dominated by men, which means groups fronted by men often get more attention than those fronted by women. We're not really sure what the case is elsewhere, but there is a plethora of amazing female-fronted bands here in NYC/Brooklyn. We here at StereoactiveNYC may just take this for granted because we see and hear them as much as, if not more than those fronted by men. But we're wholeheartedly in favor of anything that draws attention to the sensationally talented women playing music in this city, so we definitely suggest heading [...]

Monday: Pet Ghost Project @ Cake Shop 8pm $6 Gotta give props to the former Antler Justin Stivers who broke from the group to focus on this project. He has done a fantastic job of building and mixing various styles of rock, indie, and pop together to create something original but undeniably beautiful. Seeing them on Monday night would be a damn good way to kick off your kick. Pet Ghost Project - "The Age of Automatics" Tuesday: Mystery Jets + The Dig @ Bowery Ballroom 7:30pm $20 [...]
The art show and performance tonight are free, so being broke is not an excuse to stay in. read more
Monday: Shy Child, Free Blood, Pwrfl Power @ Santo's Party House 8pm $10 All three bands have been buzzed about to no end, but what you may not have heard amongst all the hyperbole surrounding these bands is that they all can play and they are all actually worthy of your attention. This is a three headed bill the likes of which we rarely see on a Monday night. Shy Child - "Summer" Free Blood - "Quick and Painful" Pwrfl Power - "Alma Song" [...]

Shows are usually pretty limited over the winter, especially on weekdays. Following the trend, this week is a little light. Most being one city stops, but with some definite highlights. My Brightest Diamond (photo from r5productions ) Tuesday In my opinion, Rachael Yamagata is under-appreciated. She creates elegant melodies and well-textured songs. When I first saw her perform, it was in 2004. She was a better version of Fiona Apple and her latest album [...]

Sorry for how slowly things have been moving around here. Kyle and I have been pretty busy with a musical project (more on that later this month), and we had our hands full with the Local Music Showcase we organized through the UW student radio station Rainy Dawg Radio . All of the performers (Alaskas, Big Spider's Back, PWRFL Power, and White Rainbow) were great, and if you're interested in hearing the full thirty-six minutes of White Rainbow's live, improvised set, here's an mp3: White Rainbow live at Rainy Dawg Radio's Local Music Showcase [...]

Well, this is quite the Osar-category i know, but it's just a way for me to talk about 10 artists that i like, but just don't seem to fit in the top 50-list that is coming up after this post. (well, not immediately after it, somewhere this week). The albums of these people have their flaws, but they are promising enough to make me look forward excitedly to when they release their next album. So, without no further ado, here they are. DISCLAIMER: ok, first add this. The songs I add aren't necessarily my favourite of [...]

I must admit i don't spend that much time in selecting my album covers of 2008 as i spend time finishing the list of lists. Therefore, i sometimes end up selecting album covers that may not deserve to end up in this list, because there are way better looking artwork cd's out there. Then again, if there is one thing about lists that is certain, that is that they are temporary, useless, and futile. So, bearing that in mind, i present to you: the nicest album covers of 2008. [...]
It's a hard night of choice in Seattle, with Awesome! at ACT, Husbands Love Your Wives at Easy Street, and The Dirtbombs (!!) at Chop Suey... read more
Ryan Catbird, of Catbird Records and Catbird Seat , is pretty happy about Obama's victory. He's so enraptured, in fact, that he's offering up the entire Catbird catalog for free until midnight EST. That's 9:00 p.m. PST for you weirdo west-coasters. I'd suggest picking up all of the releases, but especially the Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin / Michael Holt split and PWRFL Power EP. So if you're a heartless conservative and hate those brainless liberals, at least you can capitalize on your misfortune by getting these [...]

Many Seattleites are plenty familiar with the quirky, sometimes off-putting, often hilarious PWRFL Power , aka Kaz Nomura, now aka Half Yogurt . Nomura, who fled to Brooklyn earlier this year apparently in search of greater exposure, has embarked on a new solo project (though the billing deceptively read, "featuring members of PWRFL Power") called Half Yogurt and is touring with the current electro-pop maestros of Portlandia, Starfucker . He opened for that band last Saturday (11/1) at the Vera Project, in what he said was only HY's second stint. [...]

Sorry for the hiatus, folks. Been feeling blue due to some issues with my Macbook. Am glad to report all is well once more. Expect some politically-charged posts in the upcoming days. But for now.... PWRFL Power - Alma Song You are not that attractive... but something makes me feel that you're going to be my girl. -PWRFL Power "Alma Song" Devastatingly earnest. I utilize that word pair often because, simply put, I consider those songs [...]

PWRFL Power's, Kazutaka Nomura, does not take the simple things in life for granted. His first solo album is littered with songs about birds, cats, chopsticks, keys, and tomatoes, items you may very well find in your own urban apartment, but he also is not afraid of making light of typical heavy hitter topics like [...]
