Frank Ocean - Channel Orange // “What was your favourite part?” A workmate inquired about my recent trip home to Oz. One might think a typical answer would include “sunshine, family, the beach” etc. Well… 1) The sun greeted me with 3rd degree burns within four hours of my arrival. 2) Family time is great, but is always accompanied by a heavy dose of Christmas dysfunction, which perhaps has nothing to do with Christmas at all. 3) The ocean is full of life-threatening predators that you suddenly become [...]

The buzz around Frank Ocean before Channel Orange was unhurried and casual, with a sense of expectancy in the wake of his debut LP “Nostalgia Ultra”, though he was essentially still only known as the emotional grounding in the “Odd Future” Collective. It was “that” Tumblr post that changed everything, as Ocean’s divulgence of sexuality two weeks before release automatically placed the record under the spotlight; it’s interpretable lyrics becoming one of the many aspects that make this record unmatched by it’s peers, innovative in a previously lyrically restrictive genre. Channel Orange [...]
Above is a muddied amalgam of the artwork to each of our freshly completed Tracks of 2012 rundown , dubiously fangled on a newly acquired and equally dodgy copy of Photoshop, and below is our ongoing attempt to grapple with the finer intricacies of musical technologies. It's the first, and could well be the last Spotify playlist I ever so painstakingly compile, and it features our every entry (or rather the 28 that, at the time of writing, were hooked up to their mainframe, or whatever the correct technical term would be for that). That our topspot is in [...]

In this, the first instalment of Dots & Dashes' Tracks of 2012, we initiate the rundown from forty through one, vicariously reliving the glory days of TOTP, rampaged Woolworths racks of any given Monday morn, and so forth. Novelty Christmas number ones and such. Though as we approach the season to be jolly – blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah – here begins our catalogue of tracks to have made the year that was, and most certainly still is 2012, commensurately merry. Comprising odes to toddlers, strippers and charlatans alike, numbers 31 through 40 take [...]

After the release of Frank's huge success that is Channel Orange , the Odd Future crooner now releases the highly anticipated video for his track "Pyramids". Directed by Nabil, the visuals tell a story that is gorgeous and abstract at the same time. Beginning with a large dose of Absinth, Frank Ocean works his ways through the night, ending in a desert with John Mayer grinding out chords on his guitar. The "Pyramids" video is put together with the same care and attention to detail as Channel Orange , and deserves a view below.
Mr. Ocean lets loose the visual to his Channel Orange smash. Pretty Abstract.

As Frank Ocean put in his superstar-making performance this weekend on SNL, his incredible run continues with the stunning video for “Pyramids’. Ocean is inebriated in the deepest and darkest ways, as he ventures in a strip club, ride motorcycles, and encounters John Mayer in front of a neon pyramid. Got some goosebumps during that ladder scene as Mayer is shredding away under the dazed Odd Future member. Production value is high on this, and the always mysterious man continues to intrigue us all. Get Channel Orange [...]
And then he walks out into the pouring rain with a stoic face and mounts his motorcycle. After that, everything was okay. posted by @clarkbs

This past Saturday Frank Ocean took to the SNL stage and performed, " Thinkin About You " and " Pyramids " with John Mayer as the guitarist for both tracks. Hours later Ocean released the Nabil Elderkin directed video for "Pyramids." For those keeping score at home the Nabil directed visual opens with Frank shooting at shot glasses to "Start", and then "Pink Matter." He drives through the desert and laughs while he walks through a strip club, all in slow motion. The video ends with Ocean and Mayer jamming out if [...]
Frank Ocean “Pyramids” Frank Ocean apparently wasn't content with simply killing it on the premier of Saturday Night Live last night with " Pyramids " and " Thinking About You ". Nope, Mr. Ocean decided he also had to release a beautifully shot 7+ minute video for "Pyramids" today so in the future when he looks back on the 3rd weekend of September 2012 he can say to himself, "That was mine". "Pyramids" was directed by Nabil and [...]

When Frank Ocean released Channel Orange back in July, we gushed that "we are not listening to the ‘norm’ of r’n'b culture of clubs and drinking; instead we have been given raw emotion of how memories of life’s highly influential moments can be blissful yet at times cause torturous pain, and Channel Orange thus works, because ultimately, this is something we can all relate to." Featuring Frank shooting up a bar and a bizarre cameo from John Mayer, it's a wonderful little clip. It was directed by Nabil who has previously worked [...]
After taking over SNL last night with John Mayer , Frank Ocean has revealed the Nabil-directed video for his track "Pyramids" . Though it's not the full nine-minute album version, it makes up for it with Frank getting wasted ( Frank the tank! Frank the tank! ) at a bar, then shooting it up, and then going for a motorbike ride int he desert to an awesome strip club. Afterwards he meets up with John Mayer who soundtracks his hallucinations with light-emitting guitar licks, [...]
After completing a fantastic performance on SNL last night with John Mayer, which you can view below, Frank Ocean liberates the visuals for Channel Orange cut "Pyramids". First, let's take a look at the Saturday Night Live set, which featured "Thinking About You" and the better second half of "Pyramids". John Mayer shreds the guitar on the gut-wrenching tracks, as Ocean's dark tones make this the comedy show's most emotional performance to date. Now, let's make a move to the video for "Pyramids", which acts more like a [...]
If you were under the assumption Frank Ocean was going to leave Channel Orange with no visual aids to go by, just know you're not alone. This guy here did [...] The post Frank Ocean Releases "Pyramids" Video, Performs On "Saturday Night Live" appeared first on The Smoking Section .

In a year that's gone from one extreme to the other for SNL musical guests, with Lana Del Rey delivering one of the worst performances in the show's history (I'm not even going to link to it, it was that bad), we should be thankful that we have Frank Ocean to prop up the other end of that extreme. The musical man of the year contender made his debut appearance on SNL tonight in what might just cap off one of the best years [...]
Frank Ocean - “Pyramids (live at Terminal 5 in New York City)” (by Shon Mogharabi )

"With a collection of memories sung with painful honesty, Frank Ocean is certainly not your typical r'n'b singer..." Frank Ocean | Channel Orange Despite last year's release of the mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra , even less than one month ago Frank Ocean would have slipped (relatively) under the radar, having had only gradual songwriting success for artists such as John Legend and Brandy. Now, his time has come, and not just because of his first major studio album Channel Orange , but perhaps because he has decided to announce his bisexuality on the [...]

For the last week, the only thing I've been listening to (And I'm sure the same goes for you guys) is Frank Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange . And even though it was released over a month ago, " Pyramids " is still one of my favorite songs off of Orange . The fact that Frank blended two songs together to form 9:56 of aural beauty showed that he puts his artistry over the quest for radio play. He didn't format it for radio, which I thought was both different and innovative...until [...]
Stream: Frank Ocean - “Pyramids”. Ten minutes from now you’ll probably press play again. Just saying.
