While primarily a cassette label, Burger Records also release some sweet titles on vinyl. Out this week from the label is the "On Holiday With Earle Mankey" 73 by 70s power-pop act The Quick . The band released only one record, Mondo Deco in 1976, and aside from a 2003 CD collection of demos (later reissued by Burger on cassette) not much material has surfaced from this killer band. The 73 is limited to 500 copies (200 red vinyl / 300 black vinyl) and features the tracks "Bigger Than Life" and "Beautiful Island", [...]

Miguel - Quickie (Remix) ft. Twista Here's the remix to Miguel's 'Hurry up and get it in' anthem featuring Twista. Women love this song because generally, a quickie is all they really want. I'm digging the way they remixed the beat. Say what you want about how Miguel dresses, but dude makes good R&B music. He showed out on Wale's " Lotus Flower Bomb ." If you ask me, he's at the top of the R&B ladder right now. drink the kool aid:

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. [...]
The Norweagen crew gets down to Big Sean in Oslo... BOI Previous: Lando Wilkins Ft. Quick - Grove St Dance (Video)

From having a close friend who did time behind bars, the fact Boosie somehow finagled a phone into his cell really isn't all that baffling. My main question was how in the hell he managed to walk around with jewelry. In all fairness, it isn't as lavish as the wristwear and necklaces he sported as a free man. But when behind bars, even Ramen Noodles can be confused with P.F. Chang's. The above photo was Twitpic'd this past weekend by the @OfficialLBoosie Twitter account showing the King of Baton Rouge is [...]

"When you talk about the streets, you gotta mention me..." Every now and then, I'll perform a random Lil Boosie search on Google to see if any updates on his case have arisen and like clockwork there never are any. In such case, random mp32s serve as the only gateway into Boosie's world. "On My Level" was a product of one of those marathon recording sessions before Baton Rouge's own turned himself in. Lil Boosie Feat. Quick - "On My Level" [...]

Adele's muchly-anticipated and eagerly-awaited second album 21 has made it to the internet a week or se before it's release date. Yes, the soulful grandiose voice upon us. It contains the hits "Rolling In The Deep" and "Someone Like You." We have to say that we have been waiting for this release so long. The news is fresh, so we don't know where it leaked yet, but we hope it doesn't hurt its chart performance too much. Of course, do not download it but stream it if you find it. Filed under: Beats , [...]

I was first turned on to the Quick several years ago when Dave Newton and I had radio shows back to back at the now defunct little radio loft studios in the warehouse district of downtown L.A. Dave's show was immediately after mine and he would usually pop in 15 to 20 minutes early to [...]

More great stuff from Radio Heartbeat Records , who've already wowed me by re-issuing awesome stuff from Milk n' Cookies, Radio City, 20/20 and Hubble Bubble. The Quick work the intersection between glam, power-pop and punk. Produced by the legendary Kim Fowley (Runaways, Modern Lovers), the record is a high energy, bratty, melodic slice of glittering pop. I'd recommend heading to Eastside Records to get it, they seem to be the only local store the label distributes to. And for further reading, check out our friends at Aquarium Drunkard's awesome post about Fowley, and [...]

The Quick - Mondo Deco Radio Heartbeat pull another power pop classic from the clutches of obscurity and reissue it with the proper respect it deserves. Just as much a glitter rock classic as the Milk n' Cookies LP that Heartbeat rescued a while back, Mondo Deco balances sugary delivery with an undeniable pop punch that can't help but lodge more than a few songs into your head. The originals are where the band shines, though they certainly put their own mark on covers of The Beatles and Bob Gaudio. [...]

Lady GaGa : Everyone and their grandma's dog will be doing this one, but it's timely and fierce. Kanye West : a bottle of Hennessey and a leather top. Tip: keep interrupting people when they speak. Michelle Obama : Just look generally fierce. Avoid blackface. La Roux's Elli Jackson : Pasty look, colorful jacket and red Elvis wig. Avoid whiteface. RuPaul : just drag it up in high heels and big hair. Swine Flu : dress as a piglet and [...]

This week's mix on Allez Allez comes from Pink Stallone who you may recognise from the most recent Milky Disco compilation. Anyway, they've created a mix that is refreshingly unpretentious and a lots of fun! Pink Stallone - Allez Allez Mix Tracklist: 1. Impedance - Tainted Love (S. Anderson Remix) 2. Jeanie Tracy - Time Bomb 3. Bananarama [...]
Hey looky there, the folks over at KDAF decided Mount Righteous playing Quick's Big Thing awards was a newsworthy event -and we whole-heartidly agree. Check out the footage above. My favorite part is at the end when Roni says she has no idea what a sousaphone is and the other reporter disgustedly tells her to, "look it up" through clinched teeth. Priceless. BTW, still have 1 pair of tickets to the Big Thing to give away. Just hit me up w/ an email and they're yours, no fancy subject line required. =w=

As you should already know by now, Quick is having an award show celebrating local music 7PM this Friday at the Granada. A handful of big local acts will also be on-hand to perform, including Mount Righteous, New Science Projects, Play-N-Skillz, Dove Hunter, Damaged Goods, DJ Sober, The O's, RTB2, and Smile Smile. The good folks over at Quick have given us a couple pairs of free tickets to pass along to you, and I will give a pair to the first 2 people that email me with "The Feeling You Bring" in the subject line. [...]

Heard about Quick's "Big Thing 2009" yet? It's a cool event designed to promote local musicians, and anything that pumps up our music scene is cool with me. Categories and nominees are listed below, each person can vote once per category HERE and once via text message. You can probably guess who SubEx voted for (please forgive the shameless self-promotion). Anyway, check it out, vote it out, and help support the scene in general! My posts on politics have been sparse lately, mostly after Obama's inauguration. That is not because of a disinterest in the subject, but because the seeds are still being watered by this incumbent, per se. My support of Obama has left me with high hopes that are almost impossible to accomplish. To expect such fast and drastic change after 8 years of shit-throwing is unreasonable. The economy, I am told, has gone to the dumps in this post-Bush era we live in. All this talk of recession and crisis seems, to me, like a big figureheads way of trying to [...]
