Rachael Pollard was one of the artists I regretting missing at the UMS, especially since it was her first show of 2010. Rachael doesn't play around town as often as we'd like, but raising a family is hard work! She dropped by Yellow Feather Coffee this Thursday for beautiful set in front of a respectful crowd. Porlolo, Golden Shoulders, and Brett Shady filled out the bill. Yellow Feather Coffee just opened in July (at 742 Santa Fe) and brews some damn fine coffee. Be sure to visit the next time you near the Art District. [...]
Love More Than Music ( ) Rachael Pollard - A Good Thing Denverite Rachael Pollard has been making music for a long time. She's one of the local acts that, when you talk about her to other people, those people look at you and say things like "of course you like Rachael Pollard, she's amazing." Those people saying that aren't even the snobs. Her voice is timid and adorable, though not spot on, which, in my mind, doesn't matter at all, because we have to many "good," spot on [...]

What is it with these female artists who call themselves Rachael with an "a" and sing wonderfully raspy, airy music that makes me want to melt? Bring it on, snow - the Rachaels can handle you. You know how the Bens (Lee, Kweller, Folds) made an album together? I would love some of the same from the Rachaels. (Photo by Heather Browne .) I've had requests for several sets from the DPUMS songwriter showcase, presented by HomeVibe . Here's the entire collection of Saturday's performances. Levels vary greatly between sets and performers, so watch your speakers when listening to this one! Also, with so many artists, I struggled for titles on most songs. Please post a comment or email me if you have any setlist corrections. Singer-Songwriters in the Round 8.02.2008 HomeVibe Stage @ Denver Post Underground Music Showcase Sufi Rugs, [...]

Here's 10 in a row from my August playlist, obligingly shuffled up by my iPod today, complete with a 5 word comment on each track. Can you tell I haven't done much with my Sunday? God I love weekends. My Good Deed - Shearwater haunting and beautiful of course Crazy For You - Rachael Pollard simply too cute for words Swept Away - The Avett Brothers my newfound addiction remains intact Slapped Actress - The Hold Steady Aussie visit wouldn't go astray [...]

I return from the warm and open arms of the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase this weekend with an invigorated and genuine excitement about the music that is being made in this fine state. I heard some incredible stuff. Even if you live nowhere near Denver, take a listen to what my weekend was like because there are acts that I feel could be nationally noteworthy right now out of the Denver scene. The festival was a screaming success on the sweltering hot streets. Even after going to about a jillion large-scale [...]
