I'm sitting here on a bus texting a friend about potentially making a visit to Santa Barbara this summer and asking myself why I don't take advantage of living in California more often. And just then, "LA" Beach by Radiation City came on in my SoundCloud stream. Irony aint dead. This is one of those truly summer tunes-with its incredible harmonies and change-ups in instrumentals-that makes me itch for the beach and the warm weather. I might have just been convinced to bite the bullet on that Santa Barbara trip! [...]

Among all the new releases this week, it's hard to escape the one from Daft Punk . Their new album, Random Access Memories, is the first by the band in eight years. The 13-track record begins with a bang via its track "Give Life Back to Music", a funky, 702s-inspired song with trademark robot-style vocals. Shoulder-swaying and ethereal with strummed electric guitars, the song feels like an early Michael Jackson single mixed with the electronic auto-tuned Daft lyrics. Memories features guest artists like Pharrell Williams and The Strokes' Julian Casablancas. The new album from the [...]
Week's Top Releases The Albums You Need to Know About Every Week Though we're almost completely deaf from the roaring buzz that's constantly engulfed Daft Punk's fourth record, we're still excited to fully experience their salute to the fathers of EDM and fab collaborations with Panda Bear , Julian Casablancas , and Pharrell Williams . Random Access Memories doesn't seem to let up, meshing disco, funk, rock, pop, jazz and electronica into one big, tasty, hype-worthy [...]
![Radiation City x G_Force – Zombies Remix ft. TxE [mp3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4951479_lg.jpg)
Rad City and G-Force met on a basketball court. Their relationship began as rivals but evolved into a fruitful collaboration between like minds. After the band finished their sophomore record, "Animals in the Median", G_Force expressed interest in remixing one of the songs, which snowballed into remixing the entire album, aptly titling it "A Different Animal". "Zombies" is the first remix to be released from this collection. The cut showcases the vocal talents of TxE, the group for which G_Force produces beats. Quick, before it's too late! It's Music Monday! I'm pretty nuts over the new Night Mechanic album. Earlier I posted the terrific "Attempt to Steal" (which you will want to listen to here ) from their new album Working Late , and now here's the album opener, the just-as-terrific "Send in the Clowns." Do not get nightmares of Sondheim stuck in your head; this is a full-tilt, utterly catchy rocker with a magnificent chorus and a devious bridge. You can read more about Night Mechanic in the upcoming issue of the Mercury ; [...]
It’s Saturday, so that means it’s once again time for Shorthanded Goals. Shorthanded Goals is an informal mixtape of the best sounds from the past week (or weeks) that I didn’t get a chance to cover. These tracks arrive via the Sirens of Decay inbox from bands/labels/PR folks and occasionally readers, as well as from my own exploration of Soundcloud or Bandcamp. They are all great tracks looking for a new home. These are the tracks I end up missing, so [...]

Radiation City is a band that I've always found intriguing with a unique take on pop music mixing in elements of jazz and synths into their sounds. For those new to the band, below is a sample of what I'm getting at with new song "So Long". The driving beat throughout plays as a nice backbone to the chanting vocals and swirling keys/synths. Stick around towards the end as the guitars finally kick in and provide a nice rocking bridge to finish out this beautiful pop tune. New album Animals in the Median is due out May [...]

In a week that presented us some great new hopes for summer, the buzz news cycles found us giving some heart while scratching our heads in aggravation and ambivalence. We send our best to Abraham Orellana, aka AraabMuzik, who is recovering after getting shot as a victim of an attempted robbery, continue to mourn the loss of Slayer's founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman and Kriss Kross's Chris Kelly, and roll our eyes at another bloated exercise of bottom-of-the-barrel branding polemics with ...

Radiation City is an budding Portland band who are getting ready to release their latest LP, Animal In The Median . "Foreign Bodies" comes off this LP and boy is it sure fun. It's pretty easy to understand what this track is all about after the first 10 seconds or so. The winner is the flute sounding synth that rolls up and down above the sunny guitar rift, giving the track all the energy it needs to keep alive for its four minute runtime. Overall, this is music that is enjoyable to listen to, especially as spring time starts [...]

by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD : Radiation City - Zombies (MP3) Portland's Radiation City will release their second album, Animals In The Median , via Tender Loving Empire on May 21. Like their 2011 debut , it's full of charming, winsome (but not too winsomne) indiepop that will appeal to fans of Camera Obscura and The Rosebuds. You can download LP track "Zombie" from the [...]
A rough news day. Here's some music to help a little, maybe, hopefully. Radiation City premiered another track from their upcoming album Animals in the Median on Nylon last week. "Zombies" is an outstanding track, a lush, immaculately crafted pop symphony that feels far greater than its three minutes. As it moves through a complicated series of sounds and sections, it incorporates an army's worth of voices, clicks, guitars, organs, percussion, synth blurbles, and more, but never loses the thread or gets overwhelmed. In other words, it's the kind [...]
Animals in the Median out May 21, 2013 via Tender Loving Empire. Click through to Soundcloud to download this charming track!

Some modern day doo-wop for a Friday afternoon courtesy of Portland’s Radiation City . Radiation City - Zombies

Radiation City - Foreign Bodies This Portland based group is one I’ve regrettably never blogged before today. I first heard them when they released their dream heavy EP Cool Nightmare where I was floored by the chick vocals, then saw them play at CMJ 2k11 what seems like a hundred times [not really, but really] in various types of spaces. From what I remember, no matter the venue size their sound was consistent, which I think attributes to the talent of a band’s members. What I love about this band is their balance of sound. [...]

If news of the New Guantanamo Coachella party didn't get you fired up, here are a few other unavoidable groaners from the week. You had throne-watcher supreme Jay-Z's "Open Letter" over the contrived Cuba trip-White House kerfuffle hype, then your boy RiFF RAFF is slated to guest on the soap "One Life to Live" as a self-referential art slinger named Jamie Franko as a nod to the Spring Breakers actor Alien (whose character was modeled after RiFF by director Harmony Kor...
