Welcome to our annual countdown of the 50 best songs of the calendar year. Songs must be from an EP, LP or demo released during 2011 and no band may appear twice. Today, we count down 50 to 41. 50. California Wives - "Tokyo" Nothing felt more neon than California Wives' "Tokyo" in 2011. It was nothing but synths and guitars, a chorus rooted in a geographic tautology, "They're building

Tweet "Who is that anyway?" Answer: Kim Ki O ! Hailing from Istanbul, Turkey, electronic musical duo Kim Ki O (which, if you haven't guessed from my incredibly witty opening sentence, means "Who is that, anyway?" in Turkish) is made up of Ekin Sanaç on synths, keys, vocals, beats and Berna Göl on bass, vocals, beats. The two friends have known each other for over fifteen years, and have been hard at work making music as Kim Ki O since 2006. Their music is [...]

The Radio Dept. – "All About Our Love" (Sade cover) From Passive Aggressive: Singles 2002-2010 ( Labrador , 2011) What really should've been playing at Back to the Future's "Enchantment Under the Sea" dance.

Ryan sent me this last weekend when it was actually snowing in the city. It was Halloween weekend and all of a sudden there was miserable snow everywhere threatening to ruin all the crazy festivities. I DJ'd at Elle that and then somehow ended up in a Brooklyn warehouse Halloween party till like 9 the next day so I didn't get to post this when it was most appropriate. Either way, the snow might be gone but old man winter is only getting started and for that reason it's my pleasure to welcome back Mr. Radler and his new cold [...]
Today is our tenth wedding anniversary. Ten years! A few things have happened since then: moved from Arizona to New York to start our life together. Found great jobs and great friends while we were there. Jill schooled me on classic films. We lived in a giant empty loft in an industrial building in Williamsburg with little more than a mattress and two incredibly uncomfortable kitchen chairs. We moved to another part of Brooklyn and had a super named Ralph who'd say things like "Yous Guys." I tried to write a novel. We went to Paris in 2004--Jill's first time [...]
![[News] The Radio Dept. Cancel Upcoming North American Tour](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3753622_lg.jpg)
Sad day for fans of The Radio Dept. in the US. The band has decided to cancel their fall North American tour. In a statement to the press, the band said, "The Radio Dept. regretfully inform that they are forced to cancel the upcoming North American tour due to family related matters. Hope to see you in 2012." The band will remain in Sweden this fall and winter where they'll be working on new music and we hope to have more to announce in 2012.

Jonathan Taggart As one of the most social media-savvy musicians in the country, it's not unreasonable to say that Dan Mangan reads his own press and so he's probably seen the phrases "everyman", "coffee shop", "roots-rock" and variants thereof in regards to his breakout 2009 record Nice, Nice, Very Nice many, many times. And while these descriptors were usually meant in most complimentary ways - one does't make the Polaris shortlist on the back of negative press - his just-released follow-up Oh Fortune [...]

We love our fans, period. And respect their taste in music. So if you have a band you really enjoy and want to try your hand at musical journalism- send something our way. Visit our fan post page for the DL. I confess. I didn't discover The Radio Dept. in some dusty pile of records at Amoeba. I didn't see them open for another band in a tiny venue in the early 2000s. The Radio Dept. and I became acquainted through a mutual friend: the soundtrack to Sofia Copolla's "Marie Antoinette." Say what you want about [...]
