I've never been to Bonnaroo. I've always wanted to go but I never had the money/didn't have the time/wasn't impressed by the line up. But I am making it my mission to get down to Tennessee this year for the 'Roo because, dammit, I wanna listen to good music while on lots of drugs. The line up for the Bonnaroo festival has been announced and it's quite a big one this year. Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish are headlining this year's installment. Other acts including The Beach Boys, Bon Iver, The [...]

Bonnaroo 2012, see ya there!
No one should be particularly shocked that the 2012 Bonnaroo lineup circulating yesterday that we thought was fake turned out to be... fake.Today, however, the real deal emerges. And, aside from the
Well that's it really; what is arguably the largest festival in North America has pulled in all the biggest names in "indie" rock, dance and hip hop to play this year's festival. They've matched Coachella by getting Radiohead to headline (who played a super extended set last time they were there in 2006), and have even gone and gotten the newly reunited Beach Boys, which saves fans from having to buy what will probably be an extortionately priced ticket for one of their own shows. Lower down the list they have just about everyone that released an album [...]

Other Lives / Brillobox / 02.22.2012 / Doors 9:30 / $10 Words by Brendan Other Lives have come a long way from humble beginnings as Kunek in Stillwater, OK. Their cinematic folk rock has caught the ears of many fans and earned them a spot on tour with Bon Iver last year and now a string of dates with Radiohead (Yeah! That Radiohead !) this month and next. Seriously, 5 days after this show at [...]
It is with a bit of skepticism that we present the 2012 Bonnaroo lineup, which has yet to be officially confirmed by anyone aside from "the internet." It would be impressive to see Prince emerging fr

Though Vernon declined to perform at Sunday's ceremony and was oh-so-publicly dismissive of the golden gramophone leading up to the [...]

It's easy to feel over-fatigued from award shows right now. They all sort of bump into one another at the same time. Though, given that the Oscars dropped the ball, skipping a handful of solid releases and performances, and that the Grammys still feel like, "one giant industry jerk-off where the ones who pushed the most quantity are rewarded for quality," as Alex Young put it so eloquently last year, who in their right mind cares? Well, America does. If Twitter is any indication, millions of people still tune in and actually gripe about the wins and losses; [...]

For as long as there have been music awards, there have been musicians with opinions about those music awards, and the Grammys are no exception. Depending on your point of view, Arcade Fire trumping commercial heavyweights Lady Gaga, Eminem and Katy Perry for Album of the Year at last year's ceremony was either the event's salvation or the moment it jumped the shark. That polarizing victory reignited a decades-old debate about the relevance and future direction of the awards show. Grammy nominees — and Grammy wannabes — have long argued over whether [...]

Like the cartoon wherein a baby wearing a sash inscribed with the current year waves goodbye to a hoary old man whose sash displays the year past, The Small Cities have concerned themselves with new creations during this time following the great annual refresh. Recently, their labors have been in preparation for the release of With Fire , a full length album slated to launch March 3rd, in tandem with a kick-ass release show that is taking place (unfortunately for those of us further east) in the Twin Cities. Amidst the storm of detail work and all around [...]
I fully understand that my best of the year list is usually published far after many of the hip new kids. The World Forgot has long been a dessert blog, if you will, that might not provide enough sustenance on a day to day basis to get you through life, but I do provide a sweet finish. On top of that I've been able to listen through all of the albums I heard in 2011 for an extra month. In all reality this is the definitive list. Enjoy the music. 01 : Fleet [...]

After quite a bit of speculation (and many customary fake announcements), the lineup for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival was released yesterday, with the Black Keys, Radiohead, and Dr. Dre &a
