Earlier this month we asked our readers to submit their own annual report . Now that you've seen our selections , we're pleased to share yours. Band of the Year 01. Tame Impala 02. Grizzly Bear 03. Japandroids 04. Death Grips 05. The Black Keys Artist of [...]
Each day this week, in anticipation of the deadline for voting on the Festive Fifty 2012 Shortlist , I'll be listening to the Contrast Podcast Festive Fifties of yore (2012's will be the 6th!) and trying to track down the videos of the Top 5! The big drama of last year was the battle for the #1 spot between the HUGE POP HIT and the underground indie rocker. It worked out the way these things usually do, but it was so close for most of [...]
This week's most notable release has been Fragrant World , the curiously titled new album from Yeasayer, which came across our desk a couple of weeks back and has been on occasional rotation at Flavorpill central since. Our impressions of the record are that it sounds basically like its predecessor, 20102s Odd Blood , and thus nothing like the band's debut, 20072s All Hour Cymbals . Given the acclaim that their debut received, it's curious and rather disappointing that Yeasayer have moved away from its wide-eyed eclecticism toward a more conventional sound. Still, [...]
Minimix (Annie Mac Radio 1) - Madeon - Click to download I’ll leave it to prolific producer/mash artist, Madeon, to describe this ridiculous 5 minute blend of a jillion songs : Here is my 5 minutes minimix for Annie Mac’s show on Radio 1, enjoy ! Tracklist : Most of these tracks are sampled in really small ways, sometime under a second. The purpose wasn’t to reference all these songs clearly but to use samples as an instrument. Tracks are listed chronologically, but elements that are [...]
If you’re like me, and you went to Coachella during their second installment, you’re probably wandering around work in a drowsy haze with a blank stare and glazed over eyes. While you sit at your work station and reminisce over the weekend past, all of the fond and foul memories come flooding back to you with great reverie. The excruciating heat, the long nights, the chronic sweat, the uncontrollable dancing. It all burns so good as you wash away the weekend with a cold glass of water. Frequent festivalgoers are aware that there are numerous things that can [...]
With their first Coachella 2012 performances a not-quite-distant memory, over the weekend some artists engaged in live collaborations to make for unique experiences in their second fest go-around. John Fogerty joined the Black Keys , Annie Clark of St. Vincent sang with Andrew Bird, and Thom Yorke came out during Modeselektor's set to perform "Shipwreck." The spine tingling magical moment of the weekend was during Radiohead at the end of "Karma Police" when the crowd continued to sing "I Lost Myself" after the band had stopped. Check out the robust gallery of photos above and [...]
Each month the Amazon MP3 Store will put 100 albums on sale for $5 a piece for the entire month. Amazingly each month there are tons of great albums to choose from, from both mainstream artists and lesser known indie groups. There's a lot of great deals each month and for most people it's hard to know which albums to go with. So I have decided to give you my top 5 choices out of the bunch each month. (I decided to disqualify Greatest Hits albums from making the list.) I obviously haven't heard every single album on sale here, [...]

Gabriel Bruce I'm no fan of the deluxe reissue trend - at least not with respect to an album that came out less than a year ago - as it tends to punish the biggest fans, those who would have bought the original issue and most want whatever bonus materials are applied to the reissue. So while I don't greet the news that Emmy The Great is doing this with last year's Virtue - one of my faves of 2011 - I at least appreciate that some [...]

When I was 15, I saw a curious looking Coachella DVD in the music documentary section at Best Buy, and bought it on a whim. It turned out to be a collection of select performances from the festival's recent years. It introduced me to the concept of the contemporary music festival. Watching awe-inspiring sets from the Pixies, Radiohead, and Arcade Fire back then made me long for this mystical festival destination for the ensuing years. What could be better than a music festival in the California desert, surrounded by swaying palm trees and gorgeous sunsets? As an East [...]

Gotye and Kimbra both showed up on Saturday Night Live handling the musical duties for Josh Brolin. The first thing that came to mind when watching Brolin as host is that this guy was the punk brother from "the Goonies." Crazy. While on the east coast, Gotye checked in with David Dye from World Cafe for a four track session that you can check out over here . Keep in mind that this US media blitz had Gotye travel back to Coachella for his Sunday show. I never understood the allure behind watching festivals [...]
You've probably already seen Tupac's hologram at the Coachella Valley music festival from this weekend (spreading for the first time on two weekends) but entire sets were broadcasted live on Youtube on three channels with about 25 gigs you could watch from your "couchella" every day or night. For those of you who didn't have the time to stay late in front of the computer, here are the full live performances from Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, St. Vincent (with an epic crowdsurf), Azealia Banks, Explosions in the Sky, A.$.A.P Rocky, Frank [...]

[The Buzz Bands LA crew will be in Indio for the first weekend of the doubleheader in the desert, scribbling notes and taking photographs between predictable attacks of nostalgia, next-big-thing giddiness and dehydration. Coachella 2012 offers a mind-boggling array of current and past favorites to suit just about any palette — no whining about the lineup or debating reward-vs.-cost here. Here are 6 acts we won't miss, and a bunch more we recommend:] Reunions, Returns and Resurgences [...]

Dim Mak just released a remix package featuring Etienne de Crécy and Pierce Fulton for Felix Cartal ’s jam, “Domo.” The remixes dropped a few days ago and you can pick it up via iTunes here . “Domo” (as in arigato, hello) is the second single, following “Don't Turn On The Lights,” off Cartal’s upcoming album, Different Faces due out March 27 via Dim Mak . There’s a video for the tune too, check it out below. It features the illustration work of London-based artist Dan Stafford . If the goal [...]

I fully understand that my best of the year list is usually published far after many of the hip new kids. The World Forgot has long been a dessert blog, if you will, that might not provide enough sustenance on a day to day basis to get you through life, but I do provide a sweet finish. On top of that I've been able to listen through all of the albums I heard in 2011 for an extra month. In all reality this is the definitive list. Enjoy the music. 01 : Fleet [...]

If you find something you like on this list, download the complimentary MP3 and click the album art, which will take you to the Amazon MP3 page so you can purchase it (some of these albums are $5 or less). 25 // Glassjaw – Coloring Book EP/Our Color Green EP Eight years in the making and completely worth the wait, both the Coloring Book EP and the Our Color Green EP expose the bands reason for generating a dedicated fan base of true post hardcore and [...]
