#35: The Head and the Heart @ Forecastle [Original Post] I'd heard a song or two by Head and the Heart going into their show at Forecastle, but I'll admit that I was really just seeing them because there wasn't a lot of competition for their time slot at Forecastle. But just like what happens [...]

Frank Yang Last week turned out to be a pretty spectacular week - weather-wise - for a festival. Good thing that Toronto had one. Or four. At least three. In any case, I was focused on NXNE ; anything else going on in the city were just obstacles to be navigated around - literally. The relatively lighter Wednesday night of the programme meant that there'd be less need for club-hopping, though, and one could ease themselves into the festival grind gently. "I'm 23 and I'm scared shitless". That's how [...]
After four non-stop days in the sun, with little or no sleep, it can prove pretty futile to try to express one's Bonnaroo experience. "GIANT GAGA FRANKENSTEIN! FRUITY-PEBBLE-S TRAWBERRY-MASHMALLOW TREATS! MERENGUE DANCING DOG! " Initially, it tends to not make a whole lot of sense (or maybe that makes perfect sense?). After a week of editing photos and properly reflecting on our weekend on the farm, here are the 10 moments that made Bonnaroo 2012, in mix form. While you're listening, here are some of our favorite images from the weekend, and be sure to check [...]
Day 2 of Bonnaroo threw out the constraints of short sets and pumped up the jam from afternoon 'til dawn.

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin St. Vincent/Radiohead Complimenting [ Radiohead 's] case for its post-major-label forays into art-rock craftsmanship was a stunning stage production that was a work of art in and of itself. With band members backlit by two towering video walls, a dozen tile-like screens shifted shape overhead and changed color with thrilling results. Wild-card set list selections included "I Might Be Wrong," "House of Cards," and "Kid A"; while live staples like "Idioteque," "Karma Police" [...]
Over the past decade Bonnaroo has become the cultural crossroads for a wide variety of musicians, comedians and artists world wide. It's a breeding ground for creativity, as was highlighted by last year's Superjam featuring The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach and creole legend Dr. John, which instantly led to the recording of this year's superb album Locked Down . With a bill that features acts as diverse as Feist, Alice Cooper, and Kenny Rogers who knows what types of collaborations could happen this year? With so much to do, it's impossible to accomplish [...]
There isn't much I can tell you about Coachella 2012 that you don't already know. The logistics of the festival were known to the world after Weekend 1, and we "Overflow-ers" knew no late, large surprises would be held for us. Not that our group didn't hope. Outside of the promise of an unforgettable experience, my apprehension lay on the fact that we were headed for a rerun in 100°F-105°F degree weather. Would it be worth it? I'm happy to say it was. But I'll get there. [...]

With their first Coachella 2012 performances a not-quite-distant memory, over the weekend some artists engaged in live collaborations to make for unique experiences in their second fest go-around. John Fogerty joined the Black Keys , Annie Clark of St. Vincent sang with Andrew Bird, and Thom Yorke came out during Modeselektor's set to perform "Shipwreck." The spine tingling magical moment of the weekend was during Radiohead at the end of "Karma Police" when the crowd continued to sing "I Lost Myself" after the band had stopped. Filed under: News Jason Persse for AOL Day two, week two, of the flame-broiled Coachella festival brought the highest temperatures yet, but this time the crowds were ready. Shirts? Who needs 'em? From the neo-tribal drum-circle vibe during tUnE-yArDs ' set to the frothing mosh pit that opened up for English punk godfathers Buzzcocks , there was something a little ... primal in the air. After whipping the kids into a frenzy [...]

When I was 15, I saw a curious looking Coachella DVD in the music documentary section at Best Buy, and bought it on a whim. It turned out to be a collection of select performances from the festival's recent years. It introduced me to the concept of the contemporary music festival. Watching awe-inspiring sets from the Pixies, Radiohead, and Arcade Fire back then made me long for this mystical festival destination for the ensuing years. What could be better than a music festival in the California desert, surrounded by swaying palm trees and gorgeous sunsets? As an East [...]

For those of you who didn't have the time to stay late in front of the computer, here are the full live performances from Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, St. Vincent (with an epic crowdsurf), Azealia Banks, Explosions in the Sky, A.$.A.P Rocky, Frank [...]
