Dr. Pepper Anyone?

Dr. Pepper Anyone? Yesterday, I wrote about the Dr. Pepper company's promise to hook up everyone in the U.S. (except for Slash and Buckethead) with a can of their soda if Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy was released in 2008. Looks like I'm a pepper, you're a pepper, hell...we're all peppers. A simple search of Best Buy's online store reveals the album is now available for preorder and ships 11.25.08. It even has album art! Check it out here . In what appears to be a full fledged effort to milk [...]

Dr. Pepper Commercial - I'M A PEPPER - David Naughton
Back in March, the Dr. Pepper company claimed that it would give away a can of its soda pop to everyone in the US should Chinese Democracy be released in 2008. They are now preparing to eat crow and pass 'round the fizzy stuff because it now appears the long gestating record will finally be released on 11.23.08. Commenting on the potential release, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing Tony Jacobs said: "We're waiting to hear about Chinese Democracy just like all the other GN'R fans. But if the rumours are true, we're [...]

Heads Will Roll…and Rock…

AC/DC's new album, Black Ice , won't be released for another week. But it's already a smash: as an illegal download. The album was leaked onto YouTube and BitTorrent on October 7. While Sony's legal eagles quickly swooped in and succesfully pulled the record from YouTube, the files have remained on BitTorrent - where they've racked up 400,000 downloads. It should be noted AC/DC maintain a complete refusal to allow their music to be sold online, because they believe that their music should be sold in album form only, whereas Apple forces bands to [...]

Ulrich Auctions A Basquiat

Ulrich Auctions A Basquiat Here's a little known fact about Metallica's Lars Ulrich: he is a serious art collector. I know he's got a couple of works from my favorite contemporary painter, Francis Bacon, and he really digs Jean-Michel Basquiat. It has been announced Ulrich will auction off a Basquiat painting that could set a new auction record for the artist, Christie's said Friday. "Untitled (Boxer)" was painted in 1982 by Basquiat, a graffiti artist who died of a drug overdose in 1988 when he was 27. It depicts a black heavyweight fighter with his arms thrust [...]

The Name Isn’t As Good…

The Name Isn’t As Good… The collapse of his former band, The Darkness , and an unsuccessful attempt to represent the United Kingdom in 2007's Eurovision Song Contest have hardly dampened Justin Hawkins' drive. But the frontman of new rock quartet Hot Legs has quite an act to follow. The Darkness' debut album, "Permission to Land", was friggin' great. I listened to it on the way up to see Nick Cave last week and bemoaned their premature implosion under the weight of Hawkins foray into controlled substances. "We overachieved, really," Hawkins says. [...]
