Well, what DID you expect from The Vaccines? I tell you what. I am thoroughly impressed with this band. Last week I told you about The Horrors, and this week I've got their sister band. I mean brother band. Literally. Their guitar player is the younger brother of Tom Cowan (bass)from The Horrors. And like The Horrors, The Vaccines was also formed in West London. But VERY recently formed, despite sounding like a fully developed band. I compared The Horrors to [...]

Although he's no longer with us, Johnny Ramone will publish his autobiography this April, as the Associated Press reports. If that's not punk rock, what else is? Titled Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone , the punk rock auteur's memoirs will cover the majority of his life; more specifically, his rise as a New York punk in The Ramones , his relationship with Linda Ramone, and his tragic health battles. He died of prostate cancer in 2004. "It is a really powerful book because his whole life has gone before him and he [...]

Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone will be released this spring.

by Benn Ray Last night, when I saw a photo online of a Baltimore Ravens t-shirt co-opting the classic Ramones logo I was incensed despite the fact that The Ramones were sports fans. Football is not punk rock. In fact, football is the opposite of punk rock. If you were punk or in any way alternatively inclined in high school, remember the people beating you up? The people picking on you? They were the jocks. They played football. So my immediate inclination was to email every [...]

Acá el resultado al que denominaron "I see dead People" (Live! I See Dead People Tumblr).

Sparkcast? Spark? YES, any kind of fucking spark whatsoever will do the trick. I remember getting in trouble at my former day job a couple of years ago for writing something rather negative about that awful sensation of being back at your desk after the excesses and indolence of Christmas. I am not feeling negative about it now, which is good given I am self-employed, but I am certainly struggling to spark my brain back into something resembling life at the moment. So yes, I have two new releases to get moving, by Jesus H. Foxx [...]
Missed in 2011 This was too fun to pass up. The Vaccines have a wonderfully straight forward tone; a low fi vintage sound makes them feel like a time traveler from 1986 went back to start a 502s garage band. Ramones, The Strokes, and even a little bit of Vampire Weekend comes in from time [...]

Two Wounded Birds are truly the British equivalent to the USA's Brooklyn based vintage surf pop dreamers, The Drums. They share a similar love for 50/60s throwbacks, conventional pop structure and cliched song titles (Together Forever), but yet still hold onto that familiar British sense of melancholy. Replacing quirky synths and tie dye for a stricter regime of leather jackets and crackly amps, It's was the almost perfect match up then that this Margate quadruplet supported the Drums during their European tour. Since then, the band have gone from strength to strength, honing their idiosyncratic fusion of hazy pop and [...]
Hello, I hope you all were able to enjoy Christmas. Me, I got to play with Meccano and drink whisky, and any day where I can do even one of those counts as a win. Not sure whether I can recommend doing the two together though. Here are the Ramones with some seasonal advice regarding how to best get through this most calorific of days. If you don't have a baseball bat to hand, you could perhaps try any stout piece of wood with which you can get a good swing, although then the song wouldn't [...]
