Real Emotional Trash (2008) counts as a misstep in the Malkmus/Jicks album progression. Though the band ably adopts jam-rock as sonic template (aided in particular by the addition of Janet Weiss) most of the songs suffer from excess. The title track, "Real Emotional Trash," is ten minutes long and could've easily been five and still retained some of the jammy digressions as well as the song's album-best lyrics. Similarly, though tracks like "Elmo Delmo," "Baltimore," and "Hopscotch Willie" possess thrilling passages (either the band letting loose or Malkmus selling the hell out of his cracked lyrics), the songs never sustain [...]

In front of me, a husky twentysomething wore a Zeppelin shirt with a plaid flannel tied around his waist Bill-and-Ted -style . On stage, an Orange-brand vintage amplifier projected riffs from a used-bin ivory Fender Jazzmaster, which slacker guitar pioneer Stephen Malkmus was playfully strumming. The [...]
Y funciona.
