Real Estate bassist Alex Bleeker has rebooted his project Alex Bleeker & The Freaks and will be releasing a new album, How Far Away , via Woodsist on May 28th. On the release, he has recruited members of Real Estate, Mountain Man, and Woods to assist. The project is easy listening as you'd expect from a member of Real Estate with more Earthy tones scattered throughout. "Step Right Up (Pour Yourself Some Wine)" follows this line of description. Late 60s/early 70s influences can [...]

Ducktails is the long-time project of Matthew Mondanile , more famously known as Real Estate ’s guitarist. Mondanile has gone under his Ducktails moniker for years, amassing a slew of delicately lighthearted singles and multiple albums. Though his past approach may sounded vastly understated, The Flower Lane feels like a large-scale production that elevates Mondanile ’s music beyond its past quiet charm. Between the formidable guest musicians, higher production quality, and an album release party that was broadcast for the [...]

Today marks my first purchase of an album that will be released in 2013: Ducktails’ The Flower Lane , which drops on January 29th. I wasn’t crazy about Ducktails’ previous effort, 2011’s Arcade Dynamics ; like most people who have ears (and use them to absorb indie rock), I liked “Killin the Vibe”, but I didn’t give the album enough spins to get hooked on much of anything else. Then, around two weeks ago, the folks at Domino unveiled the first single from Ducktails’ new album, The Flower Lane – the insatiable “Letter of [...]
Another year, another bedroom-pop record from some project of Matt Mondanile's - The Flower Lane constitutes the second release of the Real Estate sideman's onetime solo project Ducktails , which has evolved into a group effort. "Letter of Intent" is the record's glimmering, delirious second single, which features Jessa Farkas of Future Shuttle and Ian Drennan of Big Troubles trading off some beautiful vocals and the inimitable Oneohtrix Point Never delivering warbling synth solos that remind us of Bernie Worrell in [...]
Ducktails , the project of Real Estate 's Matthew Mondanile, has released the single, "Letter of Intent", from the forthcoming album, The Flower Lane . The song features vocals from Jessa Farkas of Future Shuttle and Ian Drennan of Big Troubles . While past Ducktails' releases were more scattered [...]

A couple of months back , Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile’s musical project Ducktails announced a new album, The Flower Lane , scheduled for release on January 29th through Domino and shared the title track. Today, we get the incredibly good listen "Letter of Intent" featuring Jessa Farkas on vocals with Daniel Lopatin on synth and Joel Ford on bass of Ford + Lopatin. This has been on repeat the last couple of hours. Listen for yourself below.

So Real Estate guitarist Matthew Mondanile has the fourth album of his Ducktails project due out early, early next year. Til now, the band’s been a solo, bedroom act, nothing but seams-showing, shambling, lo-fi, psychedelic-pop. The Flower Lane , however, is Mondanile’s first album proper, recorded in an actual studio, with actual musicians, which might help explain that keyboard-heavy AOR sound. It’s not quite The Doldrums -lite, but there’s definitely some Ariel Pink coming thru the cracks…

Wild Nothing popped into my view at CMJ 2010; Jack Tatum ’s dream-pop project played a lot of shows and then some more during that festival, which made it easy to see them at least once. I was impressed not by any charisma or theatrics at the show I checked out. Instead, I was impressed with how they made atmospheric music that managed to still catch the ear. This was shortly after their debut LP, Gemini , was released, and it bode well for their future. Fast forward to [...]

Words by Jacob Barron In honor of the spirit of rebirth with which spring is so frequently associated, I'll be using this edition of Soundtracking Your Spring 2: The Spy Who Shagged Me to completely destroy everything you know and love about this column. Or, you know, freshen it up with a more piecemeal approach, whatever. The point is, last time got me thinking about the whole idea of seasons not as one monolithic thing, but a diverse set of vignettes, each with its own mood or temperature. In the end, you [...]

Tweet vaso link I've been a poor blogger lately. I've not found much to be interested in for various reasons, and thus posts have been few and far between from my typing digits. Searching for quick inspiration, I found some in and old standby. Real Estate's latest single, "Easy," from 20112s superb Days is getting its own 73 from Domino. The b-side to the release is a track entitled "Exactly Nothing," and it's another breezy, rolling number from the New Jersey outfit. [...]

Exactly Nothing was first premiered as a live cut on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show a few months back and even then it sounded blissfully good. Not ones for studio trickery the two versions are almost inseperable, but it sure is nice to have a slightly cleaner version of this little gem. Real Estate's latest album, the brilliant Days , is out now. Listen below.

Record Store Day season is upon us! The yearly celebration of independent music and the brick and mortar establishments that champion it takes place April 21st this year; mark your calendars. Domino Records is doing something very special for this year's Record Store Day, commissioning a "FlexiZine" called Smuggler's Way . Much like Radiohead's one-of-a-kind newspaper, The Universal Sigh , Domino Record's Smuggler's Way will feature original writing, art and music from some of the great bands on their roster, including Real Estate [...]
