Swiss Airlines Rebrand

Swiss Airlines Rebrand Switzerland's current national airline (no, not that old one with the best branding possible ) has undergone a rebrand and Brand New has all the details . A lot of people have been grumbling that the original "cube" logo was better - and I certainly agree - but judging this at face value, I have to say I'm into into it. Free to Fly

Free to Fly A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Max Graham (pictured) and Neev Kennedy gave us warmth with the luminosity of Sun In The Winter . Today, the pair solidify their talents and really show us what prog-trance is all about with a follow-up titled So Caught Up , which was featured on AvB's A State of Trance 2011 compilation. In just his second year back from a hiatus, Max Graham spreads his wings and takes his sound to the next level. The core of So Caught Up [...]

Goosebumps Thriller

Goosebumps Thriller Wow! What a captivating tune by New York native Thomas Datt and Dutch trance master Robert Nickson . These two bang out a goosebumps-inducing thriller called Godless , a follow-up to their 2006 collab Tabla Mizma . Godless is filled with intricate layers, a sweet, groovy bassline and this euphoric melody that will leave a cheese smile on your face. To top things off, South African producer Protoculture steps in on the remix, beefing up those kick drums and enhancing its mesmerizing landscape to give us that big room [...]

High Fructose Corn Syrup Attempts to Rebrand Itself

The makers of high fructose corn syrup want to change their image with a new name: corn sugar. The Corn Refiners Association is filing an application with the Food and Drug Administration, Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, to get "corn sugar" approved as an alternative name for food labels. To make it seem more, what?, healthy? I love that major companies/industries think that simply changing the name of their terrible product, in this case from High Fructose Corn Syrup to Corn Sugar , will make people forget how much they don't want [...]

Comes With Music now comes without Nokia brand

Comes With Music - you remember, it killed iTunes a couple of years back - is no longer going to be branded with Nokia. They're lobbing it under the Ovi brand , instead. The Register rightly snorts at the move here: A spokesperson explained the move: "The new name is also simpler for music fans around the world to understand, and when presented in local language, will better communicate our truly local service proposition in each market. In doing so, we are giving our users a simplified, Ovi-branded experience." Quite right. [...]

The Village People Need to Update Their Hit Song Now After MCA Gets Downsized

The Village People Need to Update Their Hit Song Now After MCA Gets Downsized It used to be the Young Men's Christian Association , but lately it hasn't really been particularly Christian and so it became known by the shortened acronym: The Y.M.C.A. And now because nobody really knows what the Y.M.C.A does, aside from offer affordable gym memberships and pools to pee in, the organization is going after a bit of the ole re-branding, where it will (until it changes again) be referred to as just "the Y." "We're trying to simplify how we tell the story of what we do, and the name [...]

Cheap Alt beer Miller High Life redesigns their brand, tries to look 'more classy'

Link: http://www.thedieline.com/blog /2010/06/miller-high-life-rede signed.html Miller High Life is a popular alt beer that is 'somewhat famous' for being 'mad cheap.' Some alts prefer Miller High Life over the popular alt beer 'PBR' and the popular alt energy drink 'Sparks.' It seems like Miller High Life had to rebrand in order to 'stop looking so cheap.' Maybe they weren't making enough money from it, so they want to rebrand it and drive prices up, tricking people into thinking it is a 'classy' beer. "Once [...]

Miracle Whip overhauls brand identity, designs new alt logo

Miracle Whip will not tone it down
Link: http://www.underconsideration. com/brandnew/archives/follow-u p_miracle_whip_rewhipped.php Miracle Whip has been trying for the past several years to 'rebrand' itself as a cool condiment that alternative people can use on their foods. Not sure if they are 'trying to replace ketchup/salsa' or something like that. It seems like they made a 'new logo' that breaks free from the limitations of font-based typography. Instead, they used an emotion-evoking scribble of mayo, similar to the way you zig zag a condiment on ur bread when you make a sandwich. It seems like [...]

Oh, and goodbye MTV2, too

Unlikely to gather quite large enough a crowd for Ed Vaizey to throw his weight behind saving it, but MTV2 is being dumped . In its place, a new channel called MTV Rocks. No, not in an ironic way. Zane Lowe has said he's getting out of there as fast as his contract will let him.

Switching channels: TMF is dead, viva Viva

MTV is dumping its Freeview-centric channel TMF (or The Music Factory as nobody ever called it) and rebranding it as Viva : The channel, aimed at 16-34 year olds, comprises of a mix of content from the US, including The Hills and Two and a Half Men, as well as established music programming. Heather Jones, executive VP of content, creative, music and comedy at MTV Networks, says: "Viva is not simply a new-look TMF but instead a completely new channel. TMF has, for a long time been about more than simply music so it deserves [...]

PBS's new image

PBS's new image Eyeball created PBS's new branding and it looks fantastic. I love the simplicity of the slogan "Be More" and how evocative the color scheme is. Well done. As part of the campaign, which will roll out on September 27 during Ken Burn's new documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea, Eyeball designed 630 different on-air, online, and print elements to push the new branding into the public's consciousness. You can check out other images and videos of the rebranding campaign at Eyeball's site .

Nice Abs: The Debut Of Lego Iggy Pop

Nice Abs: The Debut Of Lego Iggy Pop In November, the folks at Harmonix are following up their recent release of The Beatles: Rock Band with Lego Rock Band , in which the normal "play this song right" challenges will be made "Lego-centric" and led by blocky avatars, including the toy Iggy Pop shown at left. And if you just put a hat and a vest on him and give him a whip, he can export himself to Lego Indiana Jones ! OK that's not true, but it should be. [ Vulture / EW ]

I Wonder If You Can Buy The "Candle In The Wind" CD Single There

I Wonder If You Can Buy The "Candle In The Wind" CD Single There The former Virgin Megastore site in Orlando's Downtown Disney is now a shrine to the late Princess Diana; it costs $14.50 to get in if you're older than nine, i.e., if you were actually a sentient being when she died in 1997. The limited-time museum houses dresses, handwritten letters, and other Royal-related effluvia. [ Disney Unplugged ; HT popbytes , who noted that the Hollywood Virgin Megastore is now a shrine to that overpromoted guinea pigs-in-the-FBI movie G-Force ]

Corporate Rock: Not Selling As Much As It Used To

Boston-area rock stalwart WBCN is reportedly going off the air this morning, with its Linkin-Park-and-Led-Zep playlist being shoved aside in order for parent company CBS Radio to make room for a new, all-sports yakfest on the area's radio dial. (WBCN had broadcast New England Patriots football.) WBCN was one of those stations that bridged the gap between "modern" and "mainstream" rock, two genres that have been coming together more and more as the number of rock stations in the country have diminished; as a marketing deck from December 2008 put it, [...]

Aly & AJ's Breakup With Their Name Inspires A List Of Other Artists Who Have Changed Their Monikers Mid-Stream

Aly & AJ's Breakup With Their Name Inspires A List Of Other Artists Who Have Changed Their Monikers Mid-Stream Earlier this week, the blonde pop duo Aly & AJ announced that they had changed their name to 78violet . ("Fyi.....u pronounce #78violet as seventy eight violet:)," they helpfully added.) The sisters are calling their renaming "an exciting new beginning," although given that they've already achieved some chart success under their old name, one wonders if this change might hurt their fledgling pop career more than it helps. As a way to assist these young ladies through this crucial stage in their career, Idolator presents a few stories of artists who changed their names-and how their careers fared once [...]

Panic! At The Disco Post New Music, Restore Their Exclamation Point

Panic! At The Disco Post New Music, Restore Their Exclamation Point Spencer Smith has posted a snippet of a new song by him and his Panic! At The Disco bandmate Brendon Urie on the band's official site ; it's called "Oh Glory" and it's upbeat and dancey, and would seem to bear out Pete Wentz's claims that this album would feel like more of a natural progression from their first full-length A Fever You Can't Sweat Out . And yes, the exclamation point after the word "panic" has returned to the band's name. I am hoping that this also means a return [...]

The Case Against Phish's Name: Why It Seems Like PETA's Press Releases Are Being Written By "The Onion" Editorial Staff

The Case Against Phish's Name: Why It Seems Like PETA's Press Releases Are Being Written By "The Onion" Editorial Staff So People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals has taken time out from defending the honor of houseflies against President Barack Obama to give some shine to its Sea Kittens campaign, in which it tries to get people to call fish "sea kittens" because then who would want to fillet, saute, and feast on an adorable little kitty cat? (An example of their felinized version of the sea's creatures is at left.) To spearhead this campaign, they have asked the jam-band titans Phish to temporarily rename themselves "Sea Kittens." (The regular spelling would, oddly, be intact.) [...]

The Jonas Brothers: Assisting In The Liberation Of Irving Plaza?

The Jonas Brothers: Assisting In The Liberation Of Irving Plaza? Time to bust out siren.jpg: The Jonas Brothers are playing a free show in New York City tonight, where they'll preview tracks from their forthcoming album Lines, Vines, and Trying Times for a crowd of fever-pitched fans, who will get in on a first-come, first-served basis. (And I'd already made plans to hang out in the Union Square area anyway! Awesome!) In addition to the idea that I might be able to get tickets, of particular interest to me is just where Billboard says this show is happening : [...]

No Title

No Title Noted personal-finance columnist Duff McKagan gets his first New York Times byline via this week's installment of the paper's business-travel column, although the Gray Lady's policies have forced him to use his mom-given name: "The musician and songwriter Michael McKagan, known as Duff, recorded and toured with the rock band Guns N' Roses. He now performs with Velvet Revolver and his own band, Loaded," says the credit. During the course of his musings on bribing South American officials and not wanting to talk about music, he reveals a key detail about his travel preferences: [...]

Freestyle Music Park: If It's Too Nauseating, You're Too Old

Freestyle Music Park Commercial | Theme Parks Myrtle Beach
The rebranding of the befallen-by-bankruptcy Hard Rock Park concludes this Saturday, when Freestyle Music Park opens its doors in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Above, an ad for the park and its sickness-inducing Time Machine Coaster. Will the promise of getting one's hair and innards completely whipsawed around result in people snapping up enough $29.95 tickets to at least keep the park open until Labor Day? Well, given the promise of throwing up offered by the ad above and the fact that one of the new "premier attractions" is something called CSI: Live! -it "incorporates cutting-edge forensic [...]
