Dot To Dot Festival takes over the bank holiday weekend for another year this coming weekend. There are, once again, a huge number of bands playing across Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester and we've selected a few that we think you should spend your valuable time on... Black Books Making their debut appearance on the UK live scene, the band will be arriving here fresh off the back of playing two support dates with none other than The Flaming Lips. Not a bad way to start, eh? Beautiful [...]
A lush, tropical remix from Mano Le Tough just in time for Summer.
Tribal and analogue synth work collide on this blissful flipside to Young Marco's latest 123.
A 6th Borough Project classic from 2010: a chunky 100 BPM disco stomper with a serious dose of funk.
The National's highly anticipated upcoming release Trouble Will Find Me is out proper on May 21st and the first video from the recording just set loose earlier this week titled "Sea Of Love". Who doesn't like kids that play air guitar?
Speaking of favorite albums of the year so far, Dead Confederate return to revive rock-n-roll with their third full-length effort titled In The Marrow. A well focused, driven, powerhouse of a rock record, Dead Confederate pick up where they left off, in fine fashion. The first official video for "Vacations" has just been released and if this captures your idea of a vacation, then you truly should be a Dead Confederate fan.
I haven't taken in as many albums this year as I have in the past, but out of the ones that I have taken in, The Cave Singers Naomi is one of the more compelling, moving, and inspiring bulks of songs that reached these ears. I've always enjoyed the band, but they have taken their unique sound, which seemed limited at first, to a whole new level. You can see a recording of the band performing several of these songs live on KEXP.
Today's recommendation is so fine that he had us questioning what music itself actually is. Is it just a sequence of sounds? Is it just a process of rhythms? Are melodies just noises tapped out in an arranged series? Are harmonies just wavelengths that sound nice? How can a chain of vibrations become music? More poignantly with today's artist, how can some people suggest what is and isn't music? Without many traditional instruments in sight, except for keyboards plump with samples, here is a new male solo artist making truly enjoyable music almost solely from looping sequences. We'd love him [...]
Kurt Maloo's deep croon is submerged in lush, subaqautic bass on this remix from disco don Ray Mang. Lovely.
John Swing's underground releases focus on down and dirty house music, and by that I mean raw and dusty not warpy and silly. You'll be hard pressed to find his releases, all confined to limited vinyl runs. But his mix for Resident Advisor last month is a pretty good indicator of his sound - and one of the most groove-laden RA podcasts this year. 01. 3 Chairs - Blackbone Waltz [Three Chairs – 3CHR 3] 02. Recloose - MYM 230 [Rush Hour - RH 112-12-2] 03. Jordan Fields - Shoobeedoo (Ladie Of [...]
same day payday loans There's an enormous stack of electronic pop duos around. We get emailed a new one every week it seems, but few make the grade. You can take Eurythmics as the starting point and meander through various successful reincarnations ever since, but it's an understatement to say that most miss the standards set by Lennox and Stewart some thirty years ago. So what is considered a good and bad standard? What is it that lifts something from just being that [...]
From my success and failures last week (along with a little help from my friends) I have compiled a list of recommendations for Coachella this weekend. These bits of advice should make your life a little easier and more comfortable this weekend and for Coachellas to come. Check them all out after the jump. 1. Don’t camp. Rent. I am usually a fan of camping at festivals, but the Indio desert is a different animal all together. We stayed 3 miles away in [...]

Reading music blogs is an absolute must for anyone who likes to discover new music for their collections, but you knew that already. Today we deliver an artist that we discovered on the award-winning music blog, Crack In The Road . They are a collaborative music discovery service that stormed the music blogging scene in the UK like a freshly painted steam train back in 2010. Founder Josh and the gang have also just confirmed that they'll be sharing a showcase with The Recommender, My Band's Better Than Your Band and Killing Moon , hosting a [...]
Title track from a new EP on Let's Play House by two Los Angeles-based outfits, Cosmic Kids and Fingerpaint, a.k.a. Tyler Blake of Classixx. It a bright and breezy disco houser.
