After releasing their sophomore album, Phantoms, in August, Ume has now released a video for the album's single, "Captive." The video premiered on mtvU yesterday . I always have mixed feelings about seeing a great band with an audience of under 100 people. On one hand, it's like an intimate gathering with like-minded friends. On the other, a definite lack of energy can be reflected by the band. Luckily for the small crowd at Kansas City's Recordbar , the North Carolina-based sextet Annuals maintained their intensity and delivered a string set, playing tracks from both of their EPs, 2008's Such Fun and 2006's Be He Me . When it comes to music, Kansas City is generally not listed anywhere near the top of places that matter. Sure, in the 1930s, it pushed its way into the the forefront of a booming Jazz scene but, for the most part, Kansas City has always been that city bands drive through on their way from Denver to Saint Louis. The Get Up Kids are doing a surprise (not anymore) reunion show this weekend. The show is Sunday night, November 16 at Record Bar , 1020 Westport Road in Kansas City, the band's hometown. It's ten bucks, but the show, the band's first since 2005, will more than likely be so epic and great that ten George Washingtons will part with you almost too easily.
