Earlier today, both the 2013 Bonnaroo Music Festival and Dover, Delaware's Firefly Festival announced their annual lineups. Paul McCartney , Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers , Mumford and Sons , Bjork , and Wilco will sit at the top billing of the Manchester, Tennessee festival, which is the second of the three major U.S. music festivals to be announced (the third, of course, being Lollapalooza ). Firefly will also boast Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as well as Coachella and Lollapalooza 2012 [...]

Prior to Saturday night, My Bloody Valentine hadn't released an album in 21 years. Here's what music was like when Loveless was released way back in 1991: Tyler, the Creator was born Justin Timberlake turned 11 Jack White turned 16 Whitney Houston sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl New Kids on the Block headlined the Super Bowl Halftime show [...]

While there was some big news out there today, including a brand new Strokes song that nobody seems to like , yesterday's revealing of the 2013 Coachella lineup is still the big story. As with last year's lineup, the Indio, California festival will span two separate weekends in April (12-14 and 19-21). Following up last year's impossibly good lineup , this year looks to top it. Featuring the shockingly rare Blur and Stones Roses as the day one headliners is enough on its own, but throwing [...]
After three days of music, madness, heat, sweat, hurricanes, hail and hot dogs without ketchup, I’m proud to say that I survived Lollapalooza 2012. This year’s Lollapalooza was truly one for the record books. There was an estimate of 100,000 people that came from all over the world to cover ...

With more than 100 bands on eight stages (well, seven if you discount the Kidz stage, which often features songs about barnyard animals), Lollapalooza is expected to be exhausting and overwhelming. The point is to see as many bands as possible, because you paid for a ticket and dammit you're going to make that 3-day wristband worth it. At least, that was my Year 1 strategy. Year 2 was a little more laid back; I even took a night off, missing a few bands I would have liked to see in the name of sleep and sunburn recovery. [...]

Since its inception in 1991, Lollapalooza has strived to offer diverse lineups covering all corners of the musical globe and beyond. Born out of the grunge movement, festival founder and mastermind Perry Farrell put together a traveling music festival with some of his best friends. Early lineups featured the likes of Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction. The festival went through a period of inactivity from 1997 until 2002, but was jumpstarted in 2003, though it was very short lived. After canceling the 2004 traveling tour, festival [...]

Red Hot Chili Peppers may be past their prime, but that doesn't make seeing "Under The Bridge" performed live any less fun for crowds of nostalgia-loving fans. Watch the band perform their 20-year-old hit below. Best YouTube comment: "Will Ferrell is drumming? Is this for a movie?"

For the eighth time in a row, Lollapalooza returned to Chicago's Grant Park. While the festival has received its share of rain over the years (e.g. Billy Idol's mesmerizing sun shower set in 2005, The Gaslight Anthem's downpour debut in 2009, Best Coast's muddy power hour in 2011, to name a few), the grounds have never had to shut down . Yet with recent catastrophes at festivals worldwide, management took no chances and they made the right choice. Only three hours were ultimately lost and in those three hours something wild happened - there was a sense [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Dani Pozo, AFP It was muddy. It didn't smell too good either. But there was a general sense of not caring in the air on Saturday night during the Red Hot Chili Peppers ' Lollapalooza headlining set. Following the storm delay, the Peppers went on a little later than originally planned, but the energy came back easily once they got a song or two [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Theo Wargo, Getty Images Those opposed to the urban set-up of Lollapalooza often bemoan the weekend-long festival's lack of outdoor campgrounds and accompanying "vibes." Little did they know that by the end of Lolla 2012's second day, they would receive a Bonnaroo-sized injection of mud -- as well as people making the absolute most of it. More on that in a moment. Saturday started innocently enough, [...]

As usual, there are hard choices to make at Lollapalooza . And unlike smaller festivals, it's hard to run from end to end to catch multiple sets when they're playing at the same time. Here are 10 time-slot conflicts and my resolution for each: FRIDAY Sharon Van Etten vs. Tame Impala : This is a tough one. Van Etten made a wonderful album this year but I just think Tame Impala is going to play a more lively set. Passion Pit vs. [...]

Now in its eighth year at beautiful Grant Park in downtown Chicago, Lollapalooza has shown this city more than its fair share of excitement over the years. As the skyscrapers around the park grow taller and denser, the festival itself continues to expand - in size, in attendance, and to fit changing musical tastes. For it's 2012 incarnation, Lollapalooza is all about Black, Red & White. Black Sabbath and The Black Keys Friday night, Red Hot Chili Peppers on Saturday, and Jack White closing out the festival Sunday. Here's a playlist of those and other headliners [...]

Four weeks from tomorrow, the summer’s best music festival kicks off in Chicago’s Grant Park, the home of Lollapalooza since 2005. Over the course of the weekend, 139 artists are scheduled to perform on 7 stages for an expected 90,000 music lovers per day. I will be among the sweaty masses, and in preparation I’ve been combing through the line-up. Here’s an early look at 10 of the artists I’m excited about, some of whom are on major labels, some who aren't; some who have been around for decades, others who weren't alive when the veterans first picked [...]

Band of Skulls return to the states on August 3rd for Lollapalooza and for select shows with Jane's Addiction . The band have also just confirmed they will return to the states in late September for shows with Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Austin City Limits Music Festival . Band of Skulls 2012 U.S. tour dates: (Dates and information subject to change.) August 3 2012 Chicago, IL Lollapalooza @ Grant [...]
With three-day passes selling out yesterday, Lollapalooza released their "which artists on which day" rough schedule. The announcement (click photo for larger image) came with the release of single-day passes, which are available now for $95. Conflicts are inevitable (in life as well, but, forget about that), and it seems that Sunday presents the biggest challenge. Jack White , Florence+The Machine , At the Drive-In , Justice , and Sigur Ros are scheduled to play as the day's largest acts, so decisions are likely going to be made, [...]
The Lollapalooza headliner that really made me stop and ponder: The reunited Black Sabbath . It's an all-rock top of the bill at the big fest this year: Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Keys, Jack White and ...Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. What a weird addition. I saw the original Black Sabbath play Ozzfest in 2001 and it wasn't that great. How much better can the band be 11 years later? Drummer Bill Ward won't play the latest reunion because of a contract dispute and guitarist Tony Iommi has cancer. I guess Ozzy will have to carry the show. Hmm. Ozzfest was [...]
