Do you have Ben Harper's new album yet? It's been out for two weeks. And he's going on tour. So get the album. Here - just download it now. Then come back here and let's talk about it. Seriously. I'll wait. So, he opens the album Give Til It's Gone with the phrase "Don't give up on me now," which haunts me since I know that in the last six months or so, he and Laura Dern [...]

Ben Harper is an artist that you have to appreciate. Seemingly never content to stick around any given genre for too long, Harper gets his Hindu god on, and has appeared in various reincarnations over the years: with the Innocent Criminals, the Relentless 7, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and his most recent project, Fistful of Mercy. As a music fan this is incredibly refreshing: seeing an artist explore the limits of his talents, seeing him tackle new styles and influences. While the majority [...]

MP3: Ben Harper and Relentless7 - Under Pressure (Queen cover) from Live from the Montreal International Jazz Festival (2010) How this so-called "Campus Consciousness" Tour , featuring Ben Harper and Relentless7 and opener Alberta Cross wound up at Pier Six Pavilion on the biggest stoner holiday...well, the only stoner holiday of the year...is beyond me. I mean, who wants to "Burn One Down" in the Inner Harbor? The last time you may [...]
Let it be known that the soothing sounds of Ben Harper got me through some particularly rough patches in the early goings of Beaston: the College Years. So any time I come across new tunes from the dude, along with his ever-changing band lineup, I revert to a much simpler time when a simple song could make all seem right with the world. From Harper's latest realease, White Lies [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Summertime means baseball games, backyard barbecues, dog days and, oh yeah -- Dave Matthews Band 's annual amphitheater outing. It's a bit of an American tradition, as is their rotating special guest opener slot which has highlighted a number of integrity acts and "IT" bands over the years. Looks like 2010 will stick with that exciting convention, as this year's support acts will include Raphael Saadiq , Brett Dennen , Gov't Mule , Ben Harper and the [...]

Vedder put it best when he said "There are laws in this state against things like gay marriage, but there isn't a law in California that says you can't lose your shit at a rock 'n' roll concert." On this night, he was correct.
Music video for "Fly One Time" by Ben Harper & the Relentless7 from the album "White Lies for Dark Times."

Ben Harper & Relentless7 - Shimmer & Shine

Album name: White Lies For Dark Times Artist name: Ben Harper & Relentless7 Genre: Rock Released: May 5th, 2009 Label: Virgin ZME Rating: 8/10 Website: http://relentless7.benharper.c om/ Band names, eh? There's rarely an in-between with them: they either sound exactly right, or absolutely ridiculous. Try saying any death metal band name with a straight face in polite company, and you'll have an idea of what I mean with the latter. When your grandma asks you what you're doing this weekend, and [...]

Ben Harper and Relentless7 NEW RELEASE & A FRESH START Very impressed with what we've heard so far from Ben Harper's new album, White Lies for Dark Times . In an unintentional (but largely welcome) restart of his modern career - the naturally gifted Harper has turned the page and is playing with a tight new band and making a hell of a lot of rock noise. Here's the video performance of the band's recent appearance on [...]

I have a somewhat conflicted love for Ben Harper, and I doubt I'm the only one. Harper has almost limitless appeal, with his soulful blues-rock style, serious musical chops, and sincere delivery, but for the last seven years or so, he's been frustratingly inconsistent. There was Diamonds on the Inside , a diverse and sprawling, but mostly great rock album followed quickly by Harper's acclaimed work with The Blind Boys of Alabama, about which I had mixed feelings. Then came Both Sides of the Gun , a two-disc set that was more filler than fun, and lastly, 2007's [...]
Ben Harper has been around for ages. However, he consistently finds ways to put out music that feels fresher than most of the muck in today's music scene, he's headlining just about every music festival worldwide, and he's never sold himself out. What percentage of artists can say all of these things? With White Lies for Dark Times , Harper continues to surprise us, as he's assembled quite possibly his strongest band ever ( Relentless7 ), and certainly his most rocking. Opening up the album are the swampy sounds of "Number With No Name". The track [...]
