THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Soundgarden An Evening with Soundgarden Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8 The Tabernacle - 152 Luckie Street NW in Atlanta 30303 SOLD OUT! Pessimistic Moe is here. He hangs around a lot, whispering shit in my ear. He's kind of a dick, but he tends to be right a lot of the time. Maybe the two things go hand in hand, I don't know. Right now he's trying to temper my expectations on Soundgarden tomorrow. And, Christ, I have [...]
Landing returned from a six yeah hiatus last year to release their self-titled LP and, (more recently) the 12inch mini album ‘ Wave Lair ’ through These Are Not Records . Since then Landing have kept busy touring with Mountains, A Place To Bury Strangers and Port-royal among others. The Connecticut-based band formed in 1998 before becoming known for their own brand of space rock, shoegaze and ambient sounds. Take a listen to a dreamy cut from the ‘Wave Lair’ EP below. Landing - ‘Resonance’ [...]
Back in November reggae band Resonators released their sophomore album, The Constant , featuring 12 tracks of diverse dub and reggae roots. Hell, the band incorporates 9 instruments on the album and has two vocalists that perfectly work together on to form one cohesive record. I really need to post more reggae and stay up on the genre because this always puts me in a relaxing mood. Another interesting fact about Resonators is they hail from Brighton in the UK, can't say I've heard too many reggae bands from England doing [...]
Resonators ' second album The Constant is an entrancing, genre-melting dub journey. All nine instruments plus the hauntingly mellow vocals of lead singers Kassia Zermon and Faye Houston create a dubby atmosphere that pays homage to a positive roots reggae tradition. There are 12 tracks on the new album, all of which display Resonators' versatility and range. This track, "Soldier", is a perfect example of this dub-symphony's expertly crafted simplicity. UK bass, dub atmosphere, and roots harmonies - Resonators have a fresh sound that seems to have only just begun. [...]

In looking at the current state of some of the bigger prog-rock bands of the 80's, King Crimson has gone on indefinite hiatus, Genesis became a pop band before going out with a whimper (and a poorly received new lead singer) and Yes is on the cusp of heading onto the greatest hits/revival circuit having replaced Jon Anderson with a second tribute band vocalist. Thirty years ago, who would have thought that Asia (who started off as AOR/pop band) would have matured with such grace and end up as the last of the great prog-rock bands? Similar [...]

When people hear the term "classical music" they think of - and for good reason - Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and numerous other legendary composers who have more than left their mark on music. However, unbeknownst to many, classical music did not die out in the 19th century. In fact, it's alive and well and to celebrate its longevity, tonight the Fremont Abbey Arts Center is presenting Resonate, a night highlighting local artists preforming their own takes on classical works. Curated by Hey Marseilles' Sam Anderson, performers include Passenger String Quartet, TRIO MIO, Kyle O'Quinn, a modern dance performance by Victoria [...]

Perhaps its not well recognized, but you can't try to reach in and grab it out.You gotta be in it full up; push it out, kick it out, and drown completely. Whatever it is. “There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.” - Willa Cather With a name like Beneix Frederic (aka Fred BNX) its a good guess France is somewhere in the equation. And if it isn't house, its downtempo. Fingerbanger 1 : Zimpala - New Home (don lowed) [...]

We posted late last year H.E.R Universal Touch by Lunatik Records that featured beats by many well known Japanese producers. "Infinite Loop Vol.1" is the follow up record, featured calm and serene loops by Cypria and sponsored by the good guys at Collective Resonance Infinite Loop describes the feeling all producers feel when they create that loop so good it seems like you can play it for days on end. Whilst most of the records contain chops rather than straight loops, the concept of the album remains clear. [...]
Fukk this week has been mean. Like kick a blind dog sort of mean. Just unnecessary. The upside is that there is an upside; and despite that it might be upside the side of my head, the unfolding continues and I'm less afraid. So kick a can, I'll stop on bolts. The payoff is that I've got some exceptional tunes for yall to feast on. I'm going to go find something to spray paint.
