Editor's note: this is a song about the love of basslines. Sort of.Close enough for Valentine's Day! ::smirk:: Here's the new one from Reverend and the Makers , called 'Bassline', and you can grab it for free from the widget below in exchange for your email address. Fair trade, right? The band is currently riding high on being chosen by the man himself Noel Gallagher to support his High Flying Birds on his current UK tour. Good on them. [...]
Gordon himself has filed a breathless piece : NOEL Gallagher has a cunning plan to fill his kids' trust fund – launching an online business naming babies and dogs for cash. Really? Or is this just a joke that Noel made that you're dredging an entire article out of? As ever, it's not to be taken too seriously – his head is full of nonsense. Righto. Well, glad we could clear that up before you started to go into it in any dep... hang on, you're about to go into this in some depth, aren't [...]
The Eversons are highlights in the fusion of past and present that is art-punk, a genre most recently propelled by names like Art Brut and The Rakes. Both groups debuted in 2005 with a thickly accented, spontaneously wry vocal wit backed by tremolo-heavy riffs and mechanical rhythms in a style akin to bands like Gang [...]

In this edition: A review of SBTRKT, meet ME & LP, our weekly considerations, and videos! SBTRKT...WOW! Around the middle of last month, I returned from being abroad in the South Pacific for a month. It's as though I was on Gilligan's Island for 10 years. At least that's how I felt when I heard SBTRKT for the first time the other night. For those of you still reading this portion of the column, the self-titled LP debut from SBTRKT (you can [...]
oh dear official ! in light of recent #LondonRiots the REVEREND & THE MAKERS are the first artist to jump on the whole RIOT bandwagon, write an mp3 about her and release a video featuring her footage. wotyougot

A real music fest last night at Norwich Waterfront with two excellent local supports in the form of The Great Shakes and the Loyal Few. Both played a part in what turned out to be a great evening. When Reverend and The Makers hit town there is only room for one man to take centre stage - Jon McClure. You either get him or you don't, there is no in between. Much in the way that Shaun Ryder or Liam Gallagher have that swagger so does McClure. It's not a Manchester thing for me, it's a Rock'n'Roll belief, last night [...]

Our 300th post, and final guest Best Of 2009 comes from Dr Roddy (aka Cat Head). The good Doctor is a cook, a Marcus Waring disciple, a Leeds Utd fan (good win away at Stockport yesterday - Edgeley Park is always a difficult place to go apparently), a bringer of fuel, and can often be found in the very finest restaurants. Like his flat mate Chris T Popper, Dr Roddy loves his music.Over to you ...

It's been a good year for Kasabian . Their third album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum , is a confirmed critical and commercial success, being nominated for the Mercury Prize and recently named 'Album of the Year' at the Q Awards. 2009 has also seen the band take the leap from playing halls and theatres to become a firmly established arena act. And so it is that tonight they're playing Dublin's cavernous O2. State is delayed on the way to the venue, which means we miss out on seeing support act Reverend & the [...]
Reverend & The Makers are giving away a free live track to promote their 3CD package which they are releasing. The 3CD package has two live CDs and their latest album A French Kiss In The Chaos. The track was recorded in their home city of Sheffield and is one of my favourites off their first album. bandits tells the tale of a 'character' called John who is out gambling and drinking when he should be at home as they've got bills to pay. If you haven't got A French Kiss In The Chaos yet I think this is a [...]
You don't even have to be an online music nerd like me (and maybe you), to realise that the music industry is in a state of flux. Whatever your position on the digital democracy that music sharing online has fostered, whether you stand arm and arm with Reverend John Mclure who thinks the digital revolution has opened up the doors to a world of music you might never have heard, or you stand behind Lilly Allen who rather hypocritically thinks it's an evil theft of an artists work whilst sitting pretty on a major label and making her own mixes [...]
Reverend And The Makers singer Jon McClure has rejoined the debate on illegal file-sharing, speaking out against the likes of Lily Allen and Take That. Saying that there are far more important issues going on in the world today, the singer weighed in on the high-profile musicians who have been commenting on the hot topic. It's complete and utter bullshit because I don't see how millionaire rock stars are in any position to be lecturing kids on stealing their music," he told the Press Association. I think downloading music is a fact of life, and I think the [...]
Next Thursday, September 24th, will see a worldwide celebration of Arthur's Day – a musical event to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the lease at St James's Gate Brewery. Although there are gigs happening across the globe (including New York, Lagos,Yaoundé and Asia), it's fitting that Dublin should be hosting the biggest party of all. Kicking off at 17:59 local time, the capital in four venues – Tripod ( Calvin Harris, Soul II Soul ), Whelans ( David Gray, The Enemy, Lisa Hannigan ), Vicar Street ( Sugababes, Razorlight , Reverend & the Makers ) [...]

Do you remember that at the start of virtually every Harry Potter book there was the inevitable line of "Harry had only been back for a day and already felt like he was two weeks behind with work"? Well… I do, and it used to annoy me due to the fact that it seemed so unlikely. However, I'm getting that feeling right now. So, apologies, Ms Rowling. The truth is that there's an insane amount of amazing music pouring out of every crevice of record companies right now, and recently I just haven't had time to cover everything. Just one [...]
Coors Light are bringing a unique series of gigs to Ireland's ports over the coming months. Entitled Coors Light Peak the gigs have been described thusly: Imagine a fully functional shipping port, heavy steel cranes, smoldering scrap metal, weighbridges and open docks with cargo ships. Now imagine top music acts playing against this backdrop enhanced by amazing lighting and visual shows under the night sky. All this will be enclosed by an amphitheatre created from shipping containers. Sounds interesting. The first one takes place in Limerick Port on Saturday 19th September with: [...]
