This is making it's way around the interweb this past week. A "mixtape" of A Tribe Called Quest remixes by DJ Chong Wizard . With heavy hitters like Del Tha Funke Homospaien,Tanya Morgan, Panacea's K Murdock, El da Sensei and Moka Only you'll expect something more memorable. However, what you get is a lukewarm mix of a bunch no-name emcees spitting over remixed classic Tribe tunes. It's definitely worth a listen, no doubt. Still with the name of A Tribe called Quest attached to project most would expect greatness not just goodness. 01. DJ Chong [...]

We've been here before but this time it actually looks like the long awaited album "The Seventh Seal" by the greatest emcee who ever lived Rakim will be released soon. We actually have a single from the mysterious album. "Holy You Are" which features a sample from the great David Axelrod is classic throwback boom-bap tune to make heads realize what Hip Hop is supposed to sound like. No autotune, no electro sounding beat just straight [...]
Just in time for summer a nice track with throwback feel to the early days of Hip Hop. The Move Merchants are comprised of emcee Manchild from the Christian Rap Group Mars Ill and DJ Sean P from the Christian Rap Group Bone Circus . Is there anybody else besides me who thought Christian rap died in the late 90's? Well apparently it didn't and now we have a cool summertime track to enjoy. The song also features two other christian rappers named Playdough and (occasional DJ) Theory [...]

Wow this is something I completely missed. This was released back in February. DJ Revolution and new comers Malcolm & Martin (KB Imean & Styliztik Jonez) team up to release a mixtape that attempts to bring back what seems to be lacking in today's autotuned commercial rap. Download this if you wanna hear 2 of the illest new cats from the west coast spittin' fire over classic breaks. Givin' new meaning to timeless music, injecting intelligence, fun and positivity into your ear holes. you know... what hip hop [...]

Guy Fawkes over at hhhead sent this nice compilation of Nas tunes over to me. This is a perfect download for those who aren't really aware of microphone legend Nasir Jones. "Anyway, the concept behind this compilation was to truly take a trip down Memory Lane or take a seat in da park and reminisce on the illustrious career of a hip hop great. So, we took the two best tracks off every Nas album (including Lost Tapes) and added a few pre-Illmatic gems. If you're a Nas stan like myself, [...]

Awhile ago The Hundreds and DJ Mike B released "Drive By Bangers Vol 23 a sequel to DBB Vol 1 released back in 2006. Truthfully I never heard of these mixes nor Mike B before a few weeks ago. Anyway Mike B goes gangsta on Vol 1 with west coast "gangsta rap" tunes from the late 80's and early 90's . (See Tracklisting HERE ). On Volume 2 (Tracklisting HERE ) it's nice mix of artists from the Fresh Coast. NWA to Ras Kass to Murs To Rodney [...]

E Reece originally hailing from Maryland but now residing in Los Angeles will release the US version of his album L.I.S.N 2 This Live.In Studio tomorrow on January 27th 2009 . He released a Japanese version back in November 2008 and now an US audience can enjoy his new album. E Reece's talent has made some heads take notice but still hasn't generated enough buzz from the mainstream rap industry.Which is a shame since E Reece brings that old school flavor to his music I think many people are searching for nowadays. [...]

In Buddhism (No I'm not a buddhist) Ignorance is defined as one part delusion and one part confusion. We don't perceive the truth of how things actually are directly, without distortion or illusion.Instead we insist on seeing thigs as we would like them to be. Lama Surya Das - Awakening The Buddha Within It's time to face facts "The Digger's Vault" has been a failure. It's been akin to being a person telling a bar full of patrons the evils of alcohol. Truth indeed but [...]

K Salaam with partner Beatnick produced some great remixes of classic Common joints. Jazzy, soulful and funky I'm sure most will love this. I know I'm feelin this. The "Go" remix is as good as it gets. The only problem is K & Nick removing DJ A Trak's scratches from the remix. That was the best part of song. You can listen to all the songs HERE Common, Beatnick & K-Salaam S.T.O.R.Y (Stories Told Over Remixed Years) Resurrection Remix The [...]

O'shea Jackson better know to world as Ice Cube came on scene back 1987 with a little known group called CIA. I first heard Cube as most people did with NWA's " Dope Man ". Back in 1987 you couldn't go nowhere without hearing that song. It was indeed an underground success. From music to films to television Cube has done what only few Hip Hoppas have done..find and maintain success in entertainment field. Today's there's talk about how supposedly Cube has went soft. I'm not buying it. He is definitely not [...]

A producer from France named Dela has released a mixtape letting heads know what to expect for his upcoming album "Change Of Atmosphere" . Actually the album is available as import in some places like HERE . I hear alot of good things about it and I'm gonna have give it a listen. (and write a review soon) Dela's style leans towards Kev Brown's territory - jazzy & soulful Hip Hop. His sound is a nice throwback to the early 90's Hip Hop. Many [...]
