When accessorizing, it's typically en vogue to pair a decent outfit with an extremely expensive accessory. That's the same function of having Kanye West as a feature on a track. Yeezy adds the necessary something needed to upgrade any hit single. The Chicago-bred rapping-producing-ranting wunderkind spent his early days playing the assist for none other than his now-peer Jay-Z . While that could have arguably been Kanye's collaborative ceiling, he has since gone on to work with some of rap's heavyweights while forging a career of his own. Of course Kanye's musical trajectory isn't without [...]

The recent business failures of Rick Ross and Lil Wayne show the ugly side of hip hop’s unstable relationship with the business world. Rappers who are already conditioned to be business savvy make bank off of endorsements and investments. However, even with all the hustle hip-hop tries to teach there are some inevitable mishaps from even the most familiar of stars. 8 Business Endorsement Fails of Raps Biggest stars [...]
With this photo Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Timbaland and DJ Khaled in the studio together, we can all make guesses of what the end product could be. A monster track with [...] The post PoV: Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Timbaland & DJ Khaled appeared first on The Smoking Section .

Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake, Miguel, Trent Reznor, Skrillex, and Usher were among the early winners at the 2013 Grammy Awards' pre-show telecast. Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne collaboration "Niggas in Paris" won both Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Meanwhile, Drake's Take Care won Best Rap Album. Miguel's "Adorn" won Best R&B Song and Usher's "Climax" won Best R&B Performance. Skrillex was the big winner in the Dance/Electronica category. Bangarang won Best Dance/Electronica Album and [...]

So you know how Rick Ross , Jay-Z, and Dr. Dre's collaboration on God Forgives, I Don't was pretty lackluster? Well, then you will find solace in knowing that they're getting into some trouble over " 3 Kings ". It turns out that the sample on the track—Crowns of Glory's "I'm So Grateful (Keep In Touch)"—might not have been properly authorized for use. At least, that's what Crowns of Glory, a gospel duo, is claiming in their lawsuit against the three rap giants, producer Jake One, and Universal Music Group. The owners of [...]

Rick Ross' music has been getting him into a lot of trouble lately, what with canceled tour dates and drive-by shootings . Just as things start looking up with the possibility of a Grammy win this weekend, more bad news has come down the pipeline, only this time it's legal and involves Dr. Dre and Jay-Z. The trio are being sued over an uncleared sample used on their "3 Kings" collaboration on Ross' latest record, God Forgives, I Don't . As All Hip Hop [...]
A pair of gospel songwriters are suing Rick Ross , Jay-Z and Dr. Dre for copyright infringement on their big collaboration "3 Kings," off Rozay's latest album. Clara Shepherd Warrick and Jimmy Lee Weary have filed the suit (which also names producer Jake One ), saying that the track uses an unauthorized sample from their 1976 song "I'm So Grateful (Keep In Touch)" (hear a side-by-side comparison here ). According to AllHipHop , the lawsuit claims Weary is listed in God Forgives, I Don't as one of the writers of [...]

Wale - Folarin Self-released: 2012 Wale is somebody that I think many of us have begun to ignore. Jumping career tracks as often and as clumsily as he has done is dangerous maneuvering in hip-hop. It may seem fitting that Rick Ross , the head of Wale’s own MMG home, is so well known for a story of self-creation, going from being a PO to a fictionalized drug kingpin. Wale has taken a similar path with less dexterity, making the switch from high-minded conscious party rapper to money-and-hoes-obsessed yacht rapper without [...]

You trying to Lay Up all night? Well then have I got the song for you. Don't ask me what Laying Up involves, I just know it has everything to do with this song. Meek Mill just dropped this track on his newest album Dreams & Nightmares , called Lay Up , and it features some of the biggest names in hip-hop... Rick Ross, Jay-Z, & Trey Songz . Blue Ivy’s dad was originally slated to appear on the Trey Songz and Rick Ross -assisted, “Lay Up.” Proving that [...]
Only a month after the release of Philly rapper Meek Mill's debut full-length album, Dreams and Nightmares, a new version of one of its cuts is available for streaming. Originally "Lay Up" was supposed to appear on Meek's record with verses from Rick Ross, Trey Songz, and Jay-Z, but the final album version included Wale ... Continue reading
Last month, Philly rap energy-bomb released his very good album Dreams & Nightmares . Before the album dropped, Meek had mentioned that Jay-Z had contributed a verse. But Jay, possibly unhappy with his own work, ended up not appearing on the album, though he did record a verse - and a pretty good one! - for Meek's opulent Rick Ross/Trey Songz collab "Lay Up." Instead of Jay, Wale appeared on the final album, which is not exactly an upgrade. But the Jay version is making the internet rounds today, and you can hear it below. Read More...
This assumption could be completely wrong, but something says Dreams & Nightmares wasn't exactly the album Meek Mill wanted to make. There were highs, as were lows, but the feel [...] The post Hear Jay-Z's Lost "Lay Up" Verse That Didn't Make Meek Mill's Album appeared first on The Smoking Section .

A radio rip of this surfaced earlier tonight but the quality was awful and the Philly based DJ used an unbearable amount of screeching noises and drops. Thankfully a CDQ has arrived. This version does not have Meek on it but we do get an additional verse from Rozay (thanks?) and an honorable feature from Hov himself. Does it live up to the hype or let down? Rick Ross - Lay Up (ft. Jay-Z) "The bigger the boat, the better the bitch" [...]

Though Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill is a member of Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, he recently signed with Jay-Z' s Roc Nation management group. One of the perks of having both men as bosses is evident in Meek's new remix of "Lay Up". Already featuring a guest spot from Rozay, the remix adds on a few bragadocious bars from Hov. Download the radio rip below. Meek Mill feat. Rick Ross & Jay-Z - "Lay Up" (Remix) Meek Mills' debut studio album, Dreams and Nightmares [...]

Sam Schube on hip-hop’s “fantasy football” period: grab whoever you can, pretend you’re all pals, and use that association to sell records.
At the end of summer, Dyl’s come back from the YACHT show; he keeps checking himself saying he knows it’s crazy but he felt so sure that everything they were saying was in line with the Illuminati shit his corners of the internet talk about.
Late last night, Rick Ross dropped his latest project with far less promotion than we're used to from the larger-than-life Maybach Music Group leader. The only "singles" from the mixtape arrived several hours before it dropped and much of the hype yesterday was built upon the fact that he and Drake would be rapping over Chicago rapper Lil Reese's "Us" banger. So why didn't this tape receive the usual over-the-top promo that every other MMG project receives? Because it got all the hype it needed based on its name: The Black Bar Mitzvah . [...]
Any artist can play a concert. It takes a special kind of artist to curate a festival. It takes something entirely different to shut down one of the most heavily trafficked roadways in the fifth biggest city in the country and set up a gigantic stage with wings coming out the sides. Jay-Z’s first annual Made In America Festival took over Philadelphia this past weekend, serving as another glorious manifestation of all the rapper’s successes over his career. Just when you think he couldn't climb any higher, he finds a way to take it just a little bit [...]

The inaugural Made in America music festival will webcast a number of this weekend's performances, including festival curator Jay-Z, Run-DMC, D'Angelo, Janelle Monáe, Miike Snow, Passion Pit, the Rick Ross-led Maybach Music Group, Odd Future, Santigold, DJ Shadow, Gary Clark Jr. and Dirty Projectors. You can watch live on YouTube , and listen live on Pandora .
