The NBA's TV schedule today was fantastic from start to finish* and caused me to ignore any of the stirrings in rap until tonight, where I found Twitter ablaze regarding [...]
The end of the month signals two things. One, rent's due in a few days. Two, it's time for another installment of Crew Love. For obvious reasons, we all enjoy [...]

Loyal readers of this site expect one thing: words. Lots of them. Preferably with at least four syllables. And, typically, we are happy to oblige. The world of indie music has reached a point, however, at which there are more new songs released monthly than there are words in the OED . As such, in our efforts to wax eloquent about each drop in the deluge of exciting new music, we run the risk of letting our words get in the way of that which they are trying to serve. Thus, in an effort to increase the quantity [...]

In my most recent review, of Raekwon’s Unexpected Victory , I called the Chef “probably the most gangsta rapper in the history of gangsta rap.” I still stand by that statement, but if we refine our focus from “history of gangsta rap” to “group of the ten most influential rappers in hip-hop today,” we can apply the statement to Rick Ross and throw the “probably” into the Atlantic Ocean strapped to a pair of concrete blocks. Rich Forever , the most significant hip-hop release of 2012 so far (sorry, T.I.), reaffirms Rozay’s status as the [...]
Before all you "hip-hop purists" poop on Rick Ross, take a second to realize how much of an impact this guy has been making on the genre. From his guest features to the formation of MMG, he is a force to be reckoned with. With that said, I can't help but show some love for the release of his highly anticipated mixtape, Rich Forever . Admittedly, I am spinning the hell out of this thing right now. With rap features and production from cats like Drake, Nas, Wale, Meek Mill, French Montana, Pharrell, Boi-1da, John Legend, Lex Luger, Chuck Inglish [...]

Health problems derailed the planned December release of Rick Ross ' fifth studio album, God Forgives, I Don't . With the LP now set to arrive later in 2012, hip-hop's self-proclaimed Boss offers a temporary stopgap with a free mixtape of all-new material. Entitled Rich Forever , the 19-track collection includes collaborations with Drake, Nas, John Legend, Wale, Diddy, French Montana, and move. Download your own copy via LiveMixtapes . Rich Forever Tracklist: 01. Holy Ghost (feat. Diddy) 02. High Definition 03. MMG Untouchable 04. [...]
2011 was a triumphant year for Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group, from reviving Wale's career to Rozay's Ashes to Ashes tape and the continued omnipresence of "B.M.F.", despite its 2010 release. Ross’ new ... read more
"It's A Tower Heist" Music Promo by Nas & Rick Ross. Tower Heist in theaters November 4, 2011.
Nas and Rick Ross' studio session.
While No I.D. was certainly a production force in the '90s, it seems like he is bigger than ever nearly 20 years later. To commemorate this great talent, one that has contributed to the rise of many great hip-hop talents, Al Lindstrom and the Lost Tapes collaborated on putting out a fabulous compilation. The collection of tracks includes No I.D. production masterpieces from 1992 to 2011, which you can figure is going to be rather eclectic. In fact, you will see features from just about everyone on there, including G-Unit, Common, Big Boi, Rick Ross, Cee-Lo and [...]
Nas will drop his next record Life is Good on Def Jam soon (we saw the video for first single “Nasty” just yesterday), but he’s also lent his talents to the soundtrack for upcoming film “Tower Heist” with appropriately titled new Rick Ross collab “It’s a Tower Heist.” Deftly riding a horn-heavy spy-movie beat, the dynamic duo serve up a disappointingly short jam full of catchy lyrical hooks. Check it out. Continue reading: New Nas & Rick Ross - "It's A Tower Heist" Subscribe to [...]

I listen to probably 25% of the rap music that comes by my nose; either via email, feedreader, blogs, twitter, whatever. Rick Ross tracks, that percentage is even lower. However a new Rick Ross & Nas track (have they rhymed together before?), well that caught my attention. Listening now its pretty fly. I dig the beat. However I have to suspect this is a soundtrack joint to that new Zoolander guy's movie. Same concept anyway. Nas & Rick Ross - It's A Tower Heist | mp3

Rap kings Nas and Rick Ross have gotten together to record a song for the soundtrack to the weirdly OK-looking (terrible poster notwithstanding) Brett Ratner movie The Tower Heist . It's called "It's A Tower Heist," and it seems to actually concern stealing things from towers, neither of which is a good sign. But this isn't one of those '80s-style rap soundtrack-songs, which would usually play over the movie's end credits and recap every plot point to the movie you just watched. Instead, it's just two great rappers rapping well over a hard beat. Longtime Nas collaborator Salaam Remi [...]
Nas and Rick Ross are here to remind us all that just because a movie looks terrible, it doesn't necessarily have nothing to offer us. In this case, they have collaborated for a fresh joint off The Heist , that awful-looking comedy-caper with that big chick from Precious . "It's a Tower Heist" sounds like the kind of song you'd love to hear on either rapper's new album, but instead it's killer soundtrack fodder for a movie no one should see. Ever.
