The execution of all things - Rilo Kiley The oldest, still wearable t-shirt i own is my Rilo Kiley shirt. Still without holes and intact despite a stretched neckline, it's in such good condition because it was well made and because i'm so often not brave enough to wear it. My shameful love for this band is something i need to get over (the shame part, not the love). That they still give me so much, stir so much, and align perfectly with who [...]

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 2011 has been a great year for music, and I've enjoyed so much of what it had to offer. However, along with the new music I enjoyed, I also discovered a lot of music that I totally stupidly slept on. Whether it was the artist or just the song, apparently I just wasn't paying attention at the time. So here follows that top ten songs (in no particular order) that I've been jamming on this year, that did not come out this year. - [...]

On a stage adorned with Christmas lights, Little Scream brought an unexpectedly raucous live show. I mean, really, who expects a band with a flute player to be rock 'n roll? Normally, I try to clear all expectations of a band before I go and see them live. But in this case, after listening to and enjoying their album a few times, I built up a few assumptions. The studio album plays like a soft, elegant soundtrack to a dream. With songs like "The Lamb" and "Boatman," the melodies and echoes abound. [...]
This post might come off to you as super depressing and/or super sentimental, so I apologize and/or you're welcome. There have been many bands who've come and gone without much notice, but then there were those bands that announced their break up and you weeped for a few days straight with their best album on repeat (No? Just me? Oh...). You know this is an ominous fact that's bound to happen to most of your favorite bands (unless they're from the 60s/70s; the drugs were different then). It's something that we all must accept and savor while we [...]

Filed under: New Music , Exclusive , RPM Lauren Dukoff As Jimmy Tamborello proves with his remix of the Elected 's 'Babyface,' an indie-pop track can easily be transformed into something that might have ended up on the ' Scarface ' soundtrack. After stripping away the major-key guitar lines and giving the song a downtempo groove, the electro artist, DJ and Postal Service producer took Elected frontman Blake Sennett right [...]

I wouldn't be surprised if Portland group Radiation City are going be the next big thing. With their debut album, The Hands That Take You , I have a feeling they're about to impress a lot of people. You know when you get in one of those moods? Well I'm in one. And not for any good reason at all, either, just in a mood. You know one of those situations where absolutely everything irritates you? People have been unduly enthusiastic about fucking crap music on the internet this week, and it infuriates me because they are obviously and clearly wrong. My back hurts again; fuck you, world. There's laundry to do; is there no end to the injustice? There's a new Florence and the fucking Machine album out soon and people are actually acting [...]

Every fall for the last 20+ years, legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has assembled an all-star roster of musicians for a charity concert to benefit the Bridge School – a school which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. Now in its 25th year, this year's event will feature performances from Young, Arcade Fire, Dave Matthews, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, Tony Bennett, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Diana Krall, Jenny Lewis and Los Invisibles featuring Carlos Santana. The usually all-acoustic shows will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif. [...]

I've always had a thing for redheads. I think it might have started with Raggedy Anne and then maybe moved on to Pippi Longstocking, but the crimson haired gal that has held my attention the longest is the lovely Jenny Lewis. My interest in Jenny started in the late '80s with the classics (well, classics to me) Troop Beverley Hills and The Wizard. In both films, her characters were sassy and cute and had a take-charge kind of attitude. From those first movie roles I saw, she seems very much like the real life Jenny that I love today. She [...]

There's something about a song with whistling that never fails to captivate. From "(Sitting At The) Dock of the Bay" to "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard" to basically any song by Andrew Bird (the indisputable whistle king), it always adds a little something that makes the track burrow deep inside your brain. One recent example is Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks", which turned a catchy melody and even catchier whistle into a massive crossover hit (it even inspired a cover version by Weezer ). This is nothing new of course, if you look at [...]
How many bands could possibly be categorized as Indie-Southern-Swing-Pop ? Not many I recon... not many at all. And that's just one of the many reasons this EP has caught my attention. Tales That I Tell reminds me of something reminiscent of Iron & Wine's The Devil Never Sleeps in it's folksy throwback vibe. How'm [...]
"Rilo Kiley always flirted with endings, and the beauty of "More Adventurous" is the passion of loss."

I'm a little envious of the august arrival. Not only do they live in Canada (and really, who doesn't want to hail from the same country as the Kids in the Hall gang?), but they still have full-time jobs, families, children, and time on the side to be in a band. Seriously, just think of the random conversations you could have with strangers: Stranger : Hey, so, what do you like to do for fun? You : Oh, you know, the usual. Since having my son/daughter, he/she really takes up a lot [...]
