Jamey Johnson's The Guitar Song isn't just the best country record of last year. It's a double album split into two halves -- The Black Album and The White Album -- so it's the best two albums.No... Continue reading "Jamey Johnson and Kid Rock turn the Sprint Center into a roadhouse tonight" >

Back in 2010, indie rap label Closed Sessions had a mad plan. Renting a mansion in Austin, they assembled the cream of up-and-coming rappers (including GLC, Curt@!n$, Yelawolf, Blu, Cyhi Da and Rakaa among others) to make, not a reality, show, but rather an entire album, start to finish, in one week. The result is Closed Sessions: ATX , and it's scheduled to drop on March 15th thanks to the good folks at Decon. The Roadhouse is our first taste of Closed Sessions: ATX , and if you [...]

Download: Closed Sessions: ATX 'The Roadhouse' feat. Curt@!ns, GLC & Rakaa "The Roadhouse" is the first leak off Closed Sessions: ATX featuring Curt@!n$, GLC, Rakaa and produced by DJ Babu. Closed Sessions: ATX drops 3.15.11.

Closed Sessions and Ruby Hornet are dropping their Closed Sessions: ATX project on March 15th, 2011 with Decon, and here we have the first leak. This definitely isn't a lineup I would've ever imagined, but that's part of the fun. Too bad they didn't get Swayze for the adlibs. *crickets* Hit the jump for a breakdown of this particular session as well as a DL link. 07_The_Roadhouse_(prod._DJ_Bab u) http://www.box.net/shared/xnfv o5n99e This [...]

"Roadhouse, rip your throat out your neck..." "The Roadhouse" is the first leak from Closed Sessions: ATX , our forthcoming LP and documentary being released 3.15.11 with Decon . The entire project was recorded over the span of four days in a studio setup inside of an Austin, TX mansion. The sessions went around the clock, with artists from all over the country coming through to work together and collaborate on new music. This song is one of the best examples of what we set out to do in [...]

Hoya Hoya from Manchester have a reputation for running events with a forward thinking music policy and cutting edge guests combined with a brilliant atmosphere. Co-founder (with Illum Sphere ) Jonny Dub kindly took time out to give us 5 big hitters from the Roadhouse dancefloor. Hoya Hoya - Top 5 of 2010 Lorn - Tomorrow In my mind this song sounds like the end of the world happening. It conjures images of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse [...]
Was it chance, irony, or fate that led to the selection of "Some of These Days" as the last song on Last Call? Music - Arts - Jeff Healey - Education - Games
A brand new night presented by superb Manchester basement club The Roadhouse (Electric Chair, Eyes Down, Cut Loose, Contort Yourself, Hoya Hoya) in which the full evening's DJ entertainment is handed over to one of the Djs that has seriously wowed this club and it's audience in the past. No warm ups, no short sets, just [...]

Manchester over the past year has seen has seen a flurry of club nights come and go. Those that never made it did so with good reason; lack of foresight, vision, creativity and in some cases too much arrogance. Of course I wouldn't do any better. If truth be told a night run be me would be a disaster of mass proportions, doomed to a catastrophic end that would see me collapse both mentally and financially. It takes a touch of magical wizardry to produce a successful and unique night. Those Manchester nights that have [...]

I come to praise Patrick Swayze, not bury him. He was our B-level action star with romantic credibility, and we forgave him for Dirty Dancing and Ghost because he gave us Roadhouse and Red Dawn . The martial arts crossover was inevitable-execs don't see any difference between ballet and kung fu — and the expressionless acting worked for each Swayzean archetype: the greaser bad boy, the misunderstood rebel with a heart of gold, the mourning husband, the stoic bouncer, and the post-apocalyptic warrior. Did I say post-apocalyptic ? [...]

continuing the eighties theme that seems to be creeping up round my ankles like so much neon sewage here, i'll pay a brief musical tribute in this spare five minutes to one of the decades sterling performers. three things i dug about swayzees career: john milius' demented p(r)opaganda piece, red dawn the mad genius of next of kins high concept hillbillies versus the mafia pitch and the bit in road house where philosopher [...]
Right, I know we've gone quiet here over the last month. You'll have to excuse us a bit. Our relatives over the pond have had some rather distressing things going on so we've been away for a bit and focused on other stuff since we returned. We have, however, been to a few really great gigs recently which have proved far more than a welcome distraction from things. We enjoyed Fleet Foxes at the Academy 2 on November 9th, although we were rather jetlagged so we stood right at the back and heard more than we [...]

I've been trying to get into Shearwater of late but it's been a bit of a struggle. While I find their last couple of albums, Palo Santo and Rook , to be eminently listenable and quite enjoyable affairs, there just seems to be something missing, something that's stopping me from declaring myself a fully-fledged fan. The main problem I have is that the songs don't seem to stay with me too long after I've listened to them; there's only a faint glimmer of recognition when I next put on an album. As for the songs' [...]
