Robotanists have recently been in the studio prepping for a new album, and have released a sneak peek demo and unofficial video for fans to get a glimpse of what's to come. The track, called "No Loss Really," was created mostly of first takes, and will be re-recorded for the group's next album, Make It Count, due out later this year.
When Radiohead put out King of Limbs two years ago, they gave five days warning, and THEN released it a day early on top of that. Robotanists, a post-rock, trip-hoppy band from LA, covered the entire album within 24 hours of its release. I don't know how I didn't hear about it until yesterday when I saw it on reddit, but nevertheless, it's a must listen. They do a great job of really taking their own way with each song (in context of how much time they had to listen before they attempted covers), especially Give Up The [...]

Bloomfest , the annual one-day arts, music, crafts and food event in the downtown Los Angeles arts district, not only got bigger and better this year, it seemed to grow even more eclectic. Saturday's free street party offered attendees a relaxing afternoon and evening in and around the shops, galleries and restaurants near 3rd and Traction, with three hubs of music — a main stage showcasing some of the city's bright indie bands, an old-school stage highlighted by Mike Watt and the Missingmen and the Gears and dance area catering to the electro and experimental. The main stage was capped [...]

Electro alchemists Superhumanoids , Newbury Park whiz kids the Neighbourhood and prolific Eastside rockers Light FM will be three of the bands playing this year's edition of Bloomfest — the free street fair scheduled for Saturday, July 21, in the downtown L.A. arts district. The neighborhood music, art and food gathering this year also will expand to two stages. Details on that and further additions to the lineup are expected in the coming weeks. Official announcement of the first batch of bands is expected on the Bloomfest website tonight. [...]

Make Music Pasadena accommodated plenty of local favorites on its free Saturday of music — high-flying Grouplove (top photo), for one. There was Ozma as well, although longtime fans pointed out, they played only one song from their album "Pasadena." No worries, they were a big hit, and photographer Carl Pocket shared his photos of them and others.

This Friday's mix is stripped down and strung together by some of the latest acoustic tracks out there from artists from all over. Your Vegas ' "It Makes My Heart Break" and some of their other unreleased music has us teeming for an upcoming album, while Nanna Øland Fabricius from Oh Land hypnotizes us once more with her edgy, yet soft, vocals. Metric 's Emily Haines scores big points with the glam-free "Gimme Sympathy", which really shows how acute her voice is even when synthesized beats cover her path. About a [...]

Robotantists are the pop-infused band from the West Coast consisting of the crowd-drawing Sarah Ellquist DeBlanke (Vocals & Keys), Daniel DeBlanke (Guitar, Keys) and rhythm section Keith Boyarsky (Bass) and Preston Scott Phillips (Drums). Their sounds might be compared to a grungier sound like that of Metric with some unique production backing their already appealing sound, but their video above has no comparison. Perhaps you've seen someone barfing jewels at a most recent rooftop party? We haven't. We haven't seen a grill explosion in some time either and now to think [...]

As another weekend approaches, so does another playlist. This week we've got lots to offer, including quite a few covers and emerging artists who struck us just right. If you missed our 'Mix For The Weekend VIII' you can still check it out here . You'll probably notice first Mumford and Sons (terrible name if you ask me), covers White Lie's "Unfinished Business". Unfortunately the English indie rock band, White Lies's, new album Ritual didn't completely stick to us this time around. So here's a good look back. [...]

Back in February, Los Angeles' group Robotanists released one of the year's more solid pieces by way of their third full length, Plans In Progress . Vocalist / songwriter Sarah Ellquist brings a somewhat pensive mood that fits nicely between Girl Called Eddy and an imagined more indie Pretenders, perhaps with a surplus of buzzes, pulses, and musical switches. In saving further pointless rambles, form your own opinion with a download of "ON/OFF The Ledge" and/or a stream of the entire work . "On/Off [...]
