mp3: Bobby Day - Teenage Philosopher Teenage Philosopher was released in 1960, two years after Bobby Day's breakout smash, Rockin' Robin. Both tunes were written by Leon René, who set up two LA based labels I'm very fond of, Rendezvous and Class. Unfortunately, the length of time since René was himself a teenager (about 50 years) is glaringly obvious in the lyrics of today's selection. I can't imagine the condescending "beware beware beware" tone resonating with the youth of any era. Still, like Rockin' Robin, Teenage Philosopher has a swinging Earl Palmer rock'n'roll [...]

One of my favorite bands to see locally, Madam Trashy , has a new creeptastic video out. Such a fan of their live performances. These guys play loud and really take me back to a time where good guitar playing reigned supreme and not everything was so lo-fi or computerized. Been finding myself more into Rock 'n Roll and even Country lately as my obsession with collecting old vinyl gets worse. Check out the video for "Book Of Dead" Below. If you live in the New York area they are invading Spike Hill in Brooklyn [...]
I am a sucker for a killer surf-pop tune, and The Re-Bops are promising to deliver a succulent selection of them on their forthcoming debut LP, Drag Race . The St. Catahrines based band of Nic Waterman (Vocals, Guitar), Steve Morley (Drums) and Liam Cosby (Guitar) recently unleashed "RocknRoll Guitar Man" on the world and it's an infectiously dirty ditty that's sure to get under your skin in a good way. Waterman was previously with Guelph's The Emerald City, and Cosby and Morley worked together in The Gas Station Junkies, [...]
The Kinks: Chapter 3. Kinda Kinks was a hurried and ultimately weak album.
![[Review/Listen] – Cloud Nothings – "Attack on Memory"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4030579_lg.jpg)
Tweet The amount of Rock records has been decreasing at a surprisingly steep pace in the past 10 years, as many bands have begun to embrace untechnical rhythms, hazy vocals, and instruments laced in reverb. The resultant change birthed several great bands (Japandroids, Cymbals Eat Guitars) and hundreds of horrible ones (practically all the rest). From somewhere in the middle of those camps came Cloud Nothings' debut album last year. Dylan Baldi, a student at Case Western Reserve University, began Cloud [...]

Today I've got a new classic house remix fit for the club. It's a remix of Porcelain Black and Lil Wayne's track 'Rock n Roll', don't be none other then rising electro house start R3hab. He's a turned a bunch of so-so radio hits into club bass filled BANGERS like Judas and Champagne Showers . This track is no different, it's got the vocals from Porcelain Black and Lil Wayne, and a club hit all the way through. Turn it up, enjoy! Porcelain Black & Lil Wayne - Rock n Roll (R3hab's Ruby [...]

R3hab released this track for free via his Facebook earlier today and it definitely is a Dirty Dutch anthem. It's definitely not something that I would typically post, but I though it had to go up anyways. You know R3hab will always bring some energy to his tracks and he does exactly that with this remix to "Rock n Roll". Enjoy! Also make sure to check out the official after movie from his performance at Club Fur in DC a few weeks ago! Related posts: [...]

After releasing a remix to Porcelain Black's "Naughty Naughty" a couple weeks back, Chainsaw-synth-wielding producer R3hab is back with another remix for the songstress. Named after West Coast DA's home club Ruby Skye, this track features R3hab's signature chainsaw madness , this time with a "spookier" sound similar to the drop in his "We Found Love" remix. R3hab is continuing the insane pace with which he cranked out productions last year , reassuring our belief that he will cement himself as a main-stage DJ soon. Crank this track up and if you need any [...]

mp3: The Champs - Caramba From 1959, here are The Champs who, in my estimation, are a fairly under-rated group. Everyone knows and loves Tequila, but I'm often faced with surprise when I tell people that they've got several other instrumental gems in their repertoire. Perhaps it's because none of them stray too far from Tequila in terms of their general sound, but when your first release -- originally the b-side -- sells millions and rockets to number one, it's not surprising that you might try and replicate it. Caramba, which, according to [...]
Before Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Iggy Pop, and Jack White, there was Mitch Ryder. The Detroit rocker is back.
One of the queens of American music passes away at the age of 73.

mp3: Thurston Harris - Be Baba Leba In a couple of Friday's time, I'll be helping out behind the decks at a new night with DJ Andy Smith . It's called Jam Up Twist and is to be held in a brand new venue in Stoke Newington, the La Sera Club . I'm extremely thrilled about this as DJ Andy Smith, through his seminal The Document mix CD, was a massive early influence on me as a Deejay. I was introduced to him through the guy who did the [...]

If Steely Dan embraced indie pop, it would sound something like Surgeons In Heat. This Madison/Milwaukee four-piece crafts smooth, sharp indie pop rock that, without pretension, evokes a mod sort of cool. There's an undertone of agitation beneath their calm and collected surface that gives the music just the right amount of bite, recalling the songwriting of Graham Parker and Elvis Costello. If you wanted to straddle the line between a relaxed night in and a night of cruising the streets with the top down, spin the band's self-titled, debut EP. Check out Surgeons In Heat's self-titled EP [...]

mp3: Johnny O'Keefe - Don't You Know mp3: Johnny O'Keefe - Come On And Take My Hand Okay, so, I'm back from the land down under. I didn't do much record shopping there, but did manage to pop into a great secondhand book and vinyl shop at the lower end of Smith Street. They had some very reasonably priced 45 bins and while getting my fingers dusty I happened upon today's selection. If you've been paying close attention to this blog over the last year or so, you'll [...]

I get submissions to the blog emailed to me daily but this one caught my ear and eyes. The Record Company are an LA based band that self-describe their music as "raw blues inspired by 60's Muddy Waters and Lee Hooker". When you press play, you'll get it. The old timey sounding twang is bad ass. It's Black Keys vs Robert Johnson. Raw and unpolished music can be great or terrible, this is actually pretty darn good. Enjoy a few tracks. Tommy Trash was easily one of the top breakthrough producers of 2011 and now he is back with his own original mix "Sex, Drugs, Rock N' Roll" to start of 2012. We are also just days away from the release of his highly anticipated remix of Swedish House Mafia's hit "Antidote". Enjoy! In the early 80's, as well as most of the 70's, I was a sheltered child. I discovered rock n' roll through a neighborhood buddy whipping out his older sister's Kiss collection and being stunned by the images of spacemen and demons, and the sounds that subsequently rattled around my brain. They were so savage! So aggressive! So filled with testosterone that my five or six year old self could hardly contain himself. As soon as my Mom caught wind that [...]
