![The Maharajas – Black Box 7” [Chaputa! Records 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4962098_lg.jpg)
PT A nova editor Portuguesa, Chaputa! Do outro lado, “B-Files" amplifica [...]
![Mystics – st 7” [Boppa do Down Records 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4962100_lg.jpg)

Kansas City's High Diving Ponies haven't played a show since last November, when they played FOKL with Dry Bonnet. They're not likely to be playing around here any time soon, either. According to the band's Josh Thomas High Diving Ponies are "probably not playing Lawrence or KC again until fall." So, that makes tonight's show at the Replay in Lawrence an imperative thing to attend, especially if you're a fan of the intense psychedelic shoegaze the band proffers. Thomas promises that the band will be "playing mostly new songs," giving you a chance to [...]

Kansas City trio Not A Planet have the potential to be that next band to step to the next level. Much like the ACBs or Cowboy Indian Bear, the group has mastered the art of taking familiar sounds and recontexualizing them into something fresh and exciting. Unfortunately, Not A Planet has yet to direct their sound into something consistent. While, yes, a band needs to diversify and do more than perform the same song repeatedly over the course of 10-12 tracks, some sort of thematic or tonal through-line helps. While the gentleman of Not A Planet [...]
Mondays, ugh, etc. A long weekend is coming, but it is not coming near fast enough. This calls for something to assist the rest of this day in going on it's merry way. For me, nothing does that trick quite like cranked guitars and a good sing along chorus or two. Toronto's Navy Skies offers exactly that with this recently released 73 for Cut My Teeth & Ontario Winds. Initially named Rebel Rebel, this foursome celebrated their new moniker by recording these songs with Teenage Kicks' Peter Van Helvoort, which was a wise move. The Skies sound is [...]

All of Hollowtown , the debut release from Lawrence's Pale Hearts , sounds prettily depressing. This is a good thing, in that it's the rare release these days that manages to convey longing, want, need, or sadness without screaming and yelling. Pale Hearts express their emotions through plaintive songs which still manage to jangle and swing. It's spaghetti western via new wave - not unlike Wall of Voodoo covering Ennio Morricone . The first track has some weird vocal issues, like they're way high in the mix, but the rest of the album sounds [...]

![The Blind Shake – Garbage On Glue 7” [Sweet Rot Records 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4944877_lg.jpg)
![Jimmy C. and the Chelsea Five – Play with Fire 7” [13 O' Clock Records 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4944227_lg.jpg)
You're Gonna Miss Me”. [...]
![The Viceroyes – Hold Court [Crown Records 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4944068_lg.jpg)

I came across the band Turbo Fruits for the first time in 2010, when they supported Band of Skulls , my favourite band. It was a very grey and cold day and the people in the audience were quite bored and not very happy. However, things changed, when Jonas Stein (vocals, guitar and former member of Be Your Own Pet ), Kingsley Brock (guitar, backing vocals), Dave McCowen (bass, backing vocals) and Matt Hearn (drums) suddenly went through the crowd to then get onto the stage. They might have come out of nowhere, but [...]

It is so easy to get lost in the trippy, addictive, and intoxicating world of Psyence. AMBY and this Stoke-on-Trent quartet go way back- we instantly loved the band for their unique and driven psychedelic sound. Releasing their latest track ZEBRA yesterday, AMBY decided to celebrate with our great interview with the band. Have a look, as Psyence spoke to us about science, upcoming vibes, and no limits! AMBY: Hey Psyence, introduce yourself to AMBY please! Who are Psyence? Psyence: Psyence are a PSYCHEDELIC Rock and Roll quintet founded late [...]

Line up announced for Bumbershoot finally! In case you weren't at Prom Night with Allen Stone tonight at the Crocodile...Here you go: bumbershoot
We went to Chicago last weekend for C2E2, and as I do in every city we visit, I hit up a bunch of record stores. And as I do every time I visit a record store in a different city, I asked for the hook-up on the best band I've probably not heard of back home. The dude at Reckless in Wicker Park suggested Disappears , saying that they were "probably the best live band in Chicago right now." I'm currently spinning their first LP, Lux (out on [...]

mp3: The Majestics - Oasis Pt.1 mp3: The Majestics - Oasis Pt.2 I had assumed that The Majestics of today's selections, were the same group who released The Boss Walk ( Blop-Up 's opening stormer), but now I'm not so sure. They are both killer two-part instrumentals and, without over-analysing it, have a similar saxophone and guitar based rock'n'roll sound. However, the songwriting and production credits are totally different. Before being issued by Chess, Oasis was released in 1961 on Tennessee's Chanson Records. A second The Majestics record [...]

Midnight Spin give a veteran performance in their debut. Self-Released, 2013 9.6/ 10 Midnight Spin is a new rock n roll band from New York. With Mike Corbett and Jim Terranova on guitars...

Nude Beach is a band that received tons of coverage from us last year with their incredible album II . Hell, a spot on the top songs list AND the top albums list in the same year basically means you are ATH approved for life and can do no wrong. The band may be in for another big year and are kicking things off with this new song "I'm Giving Up". Of course it's a rock n roll tune with some super slick guitars that don't seem to quit jamming until the song is done blasting through its 2 [...]
