A lot of bands have nostalgically hit back at the 80s, but that's not the path that Zeus seems to take. They've gone even further, hitting up on the AOR sounds of the 70s, using sharp guitar licks and Rod Stewart-esque vocals to kick out their jams. The group are about to release their new record, Busting Visions , on Arts and Crafts this March, and if you dig you're rock n' roll with a bit of old school swagger, then this is [...]

It is with a heavy heart that the music industry, and the world, says goodbye to one of the greatest female vocalists of all time today. Etta James , the legendary soul singer most famously known for her 1960 rendition of the softly swaying love song "At Last," passed away in California on Friday (January 20) after a years-long battle with leukemia. James' impact has reverberated through nearly six decades of pop music and will continue to influence future generations of musicians, as evidenced by the umpteen covers of her hits by artists and reality TV talent competition hopefuls [...]

This is Rod Stewart performing live at Abbey Road Studios in London, England, back on October 8th 2004, to an audience of around 300 people, the show was recorded for a subsequent Xmas broadcast. This is a superb show featuring an incredible choice of songs, with Rod clearly loving the intimate environment and responsive audience. 2004 was a very busy and successful year for Rod who reunited with Ronnie Wood for concerts of Faces material. A Rod Stewart and the Faces best of Changing Faces reached the Top 20 of the UK [...]
Today Rod "The Mod" Stewart turns 67 years old, and by the looks of the way he still acts in public and live in concert, he feels 27. Seriously, when we saw him in 2009 at the Woodlands, he was... Continue reading "Do Ya Think He's Sexy?: Great Embarassingly Awesome Pics Of Rod Stewart (NSFW)" >

Jorge Ben was my first introduction to Brazilian music - someone put on his "best of" album The Definitive Collection so they could point out how much "Taj Mahal" sounded like Rod Stewart's hit "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" I'd never heard the Stewart song before, so when I did hear it for the first time later in my life I was astounded, much as Jorge Ben must have been in 1978, at the similarities. A judge eventually ruled that the song did, in fact, constitute plagiarism, as it had, in the judge's words, "been derived" from Jorge [...]

Fans of Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The three bands will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14th, 2012 at the Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. Other inductees will include Donovan, singer/songwriter Laura Nyro and The Faces whose lineup once boasted artists like Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. The Cure, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Eric B. & Rakim missed the honor this year. So now the big question will be [...]

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland announced yesterday its 2012 class of inductees, and it includes the rockin' British quintet the Faces. Finally! The Faces rocked the late 1960s and early 1970s like no one else, including the Rolling Stones. First known as the Small Faces, the core group of keyboardist Ian McLagan, bassist Ronnie Lane and drummer Kenney Jones found themselves at a crossroads when lead singer Steve Marriott left the group. Salvation came in the form of two new members: guitarist Ron Wood and singer Rod Stewart. So in 1970 the [...]

The autumn of 1981 was the first time that the radio was the first thing I turned on in the morning and the last thing turned off at night. Q102 would air the Top Ten At Ten weeknights at the titular hour, so a lot of nights I'd leave the radio on, listening well after they'd finished counting down the day's most requested songs. The station was the station for most of my junior high classmates and the previous evening's countdown usually merited at least a few minutes discussion and debate the following day. [...]
The bad news: It seems like the rock memoir deluge isn't likely to end for at least the next few years. The good news: The rock memoir market is about collapse, as book companies are starting to scrape the barrel for untold stories from famous rockers. Case in point: Rod Stewart is the latest musician to get a memoir deal, and while he probably has some rad stories about Eiffel Towering with Ron Wood in the '70s, we're not exactly itching for him to detail how his label pushed him into recording those 15 albums of standards he's been doing. [...]

Ah Betty ... how could you? Just a few weeks ago we were all bothered about yet another female celebrity caught naked, after someone hacked into her private cellphone stash. I still can't figure what's the problem - she took the pictures herself and obviously wanted somebody besides herself to see them (or else she could have just used a mirror to look at her own ass). Maybe she doesn't want us all to see these photos; maybe she just doesn't want us all to see these photos for free. Maybe she would rather [...]
While part of me feels lame for rocking out to a Rod Stewart vocal, I can't hate on the Faces. Cool tune.
A primer: Celebrities often insure parts of their body that they view as important to their fame, just in case some fan, I don't know, tries to rip off part of J.Lo's buttocks, or something. Read Slate if you want to know more about body insurance. The reason I bring this up is because there is a new list out detailing the most bonkers body parts insured by celebrities, and this is rather icky: David Lee Roth insures his sperm for $1 million, which is the same value placed on Rihanna's legs. Rod Stewart's voice is [...]
Although I doubt this particular artist has featured within the realms of Crack in the Road before, he is reputed to have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Such a claim means that to some he is considered to be one of the most successful musicians of all time. Whilst touring the west coast of America a few weeks back I saw Rod Stewart perform to a crowd of just a few thousand at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas. Despite being 66, it seemd to be the majority of the crowd showing their age, not [...]

Whilst touring the west coast of America a few weeks back I saw Rod Stewart, whose number one singles include Maggie May and Do Ya Think I'm Sexy , performing a selection of his greatest hits in Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, in front of a crowd of [...]
The Soft Parade was the fourth album from The Doors. It was released in 1969. Given that '69 was the year of such releases as Led Zepplin , Kick Out the Jams , Beck Ola , Ramblin' Gambling Man , Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere , Tommy , and The Stooges , it is somewhat surprising that The Doors had the opportunity for redemption and were able to release Morrison Hotel the following year and hadn't been driven off into the sketchy concrete wilderness of L.A. [...]
The two most notable deaths in August happened on the same day: the 22nd. I've already paid tribute to Nick Ashford (HERE) ; on the same day that great songwriter passed away, Jerry Leiber died. I don't think it's necessary to go into detail about the Leiber & Stoller story other than to say that they had a crucial impact on the development of rock & roll. Leiber was the lyricist, and as such got Elvis Presley to sing the great line in Jailhouse Rock: "Number 47 said to number 3,'You're the cutest [...]
