John Vanderslice in the bathroom of Union Hall, Brooklyn What did I do when I was living an a sweltering hot city in a room the size of an ironing board in an apartment that had a (working) washer and dryer in the garden but no window in the kitchen? I got a job at Ralph Lauren and wore uncomfortable heels to the encouraging delight of my much older, more monied co-workers. I also listened to John Vanderslice every day for weeks, including during the off hours in Ozzie's Cafe on 5th Avenue in Park Slope [...]
New Wax I can only hope to be as cool as John Vanderslice when I'm 42. The indie-rock elder-statesman continues to pump out his own brand of polished-yet-innovative pop songs, and his new album Romanian Names sounds decidedly... well, John Vanderslice. That's not to say there's not a subtle shift in tone. Where his two previous albums, 2005's Pixel Revolt and 2007's Emerald City , were wading knee-deep in post-9/11 paranoia, Romanian Names trades in the politics for a more personal feel. [...]
John Vanderslice-07 Summer in Australia John and his band wandered up the NW passage from they bay area to visit his fans at the Mississippi Studios in Portland Oregon this week and sang, "Forest Knolls" a song off his latest album, Romanian Names. He introduced it with a big double bloody drumming bang as the studio has outfited two large drums over the stage as part of its normal decor (it was recently nearly demo'd and fully remodeled). The Vanderslice team decided to put those babies to good use making them more predominant [...]

Singer-songwriter John Vanderslice is set to release his 7th album, Romanian Names , via Dead Oceans on May 19th. This album supposedly is crafted of shorter songs, some more upbeat, but this song here isn't that at all. This is the album's longest, and possibly slowest, tracks. ACL Spotlight: John Vanderslice
In this edition of ACL Spotlight we will be taking a look at one of the most overlooked names in indie rock: John Vanderslice . Follow the jump for more. John Vanderslice - Sunken Union Boat

New John Vanderslice
[MP3] John Vanderslice "Fetal Horses" Really exciting news today in the form of a new John Vanderslice song and record coming this spring. Stereogum premiered the track earlier today and sure enough the press release followed. Vanderslice's output has always been stellar, but his albums seemed to have lacked sustained continuity throughout. Dead Oceans makes a bold statement calling Romanian Names "the best record he's made to date... a career-defining moment, a pitch-perfect collection written and recorded with [...]
