Delta Spirit – "California"

Yes, Yes, Y-E-S! I love Delta Spirit and maybe it's the endorphins from my run earlier tonight (that's right, I try and keep healthy. What gives?!) or my general love for the band, but I also am a big fan of this song. Sure, it's going to be a polarizing song for many longtime Delta fans. In fact there has already been a huge backlash over the fact that this particular song, the first single off their upcoming 3rd studio album, "California", leaves behind the roots-rock, americana feel. It's true it does and I'll admit, I was looking [...]

Video: Deer Tick - "Main Street"

Video: Deer Tick - "Main Street" Divine Providence - the new album from Deer Tick- is the kind of irreverent, alcohol fueled, roots rock that you can't stop playing. The video for "Main Street" is a maybe a bit too "busy". Some may feel it's one of those videos that takes away from the actual song. Still, if you like your rock n roll mixed with a bit of Jackass, tons of fire and explosions, with a grand finale of gear destruction ala The Who but followed with urination on said gear (you just know that Keith Moon really wanted to go there) [...]

Country Mice: November 16, 2011 Glasslands – FLAC and MP3 Downloads + Streaming Songs

Country Mice: November 16, 2011 Glasslands – FLAC and MP3 Downloads + Streaming Songs [Photos by acidjack] Yes, New York, we do have our very own homegrown answer to Alabama's Drive-By Truckers, and they're called Country Mice . They don't celebrate Southern roots they don't have (two bandmembers are from Lawrence, Kansas), sure, but the rootsy tinge to their sound, married to big, balls-to-the-wall major chord riffs, will draw immediate comparisons. Although I had enjoyed sets of theirs before, this PopGun Booking '-sponsored show at Glasslands showcased a tight, confident and mature band ready to take things to the next level. This set, opening for the Nashville guitar wizard [...]

Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three w/ The Shelf Life @ Club Cafe Friday 10/28/11

Pokey LaFarge: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
Pokey LaFarge was born in the heartland of America and took to the open roads at a young age, earning the key to the freedom by hitching rides and writing boxcar ballads that spun tales of a boy finding his way through this big wide-open country. He submerged himself with the most American of music and embraced himself in the beauty of the land while picking and strumming with down-home groups everywhere he went, falling in with traveling caravans of vaudeville poets and hell-raising bluegrass pickers alike. Revenge of the Quick Ripple Bursts - Vinyl Punk Edition; Featuring Fonzarelli, Luther, Restorations, Tin Armor, and Sharks Come Cruising Fonzarelli – Last Chance Summer Dance Tsurumi Records keeps on expanding and keeps on releasing one quality punk release after the next. Spinning on the turntable today, in beautiful royal blue wax, is their latest Jack Endino produced platter, Fonzarelli, and their debut Last Chance Summer Dance . And let me say, this definitely won't be Fonzarelli's last chance. Packing in more hooks than you could find at a bass fishing tournament, and marrying those hooks to Endino's punchy production, [...]

Rick Barton and the Shadow Blasters – An American Rock Song

Rick Barton and the Shadow Blasters – An American Rock Song There's an iconic scene in the movie "American Beauty" where the characters and the audience are mesmerized by an image of a plastic grocery bag blowing in the wind. Caught in an updraft, it circles, flips, dips, and twists in an almost surreal ballet. The bag itself is ugly. The dirty sidewalk it drifts above is filthy. But the juxtaposition of these two images with that weightless floating creates a scene of magical beauty. Welcome to Rick Barton and the Shadow Blasters debut album An American Rock Song , except take [...]
