Tweet Shouldn't be any surprise to find out that Daniel Rossen is he out of Grizzly Bear. How else could you explain the somewhat awkward glory of 'Return To Form' from his debut solo release 'Silent Hour/Golden Mile' on Warp Records. Like all the best GB songs this one doesn't as much grab you by the throat as creep up on you and take your breath away. In my book that is always the basis for the best songs and 'Return To [...]

The Grizzly Bear/Department of Eagles member branches out on a subtle, sweet EP that collects five songs of impressive music.
Daniel Rossen is one quarter of Grizzly Bear , a band I never bonded with because (specifically) I kept hearing comparisons with, and then hearing echoes of, Van Dyke Parks. Even more specifically, 2004‘s Yellow House reminded me of an album I struggled with and was never able to love, Parks’ allegedly legendary Song Cycle . That is to say, their songs, albeit pretty, were excessively ornate and over-arranged, with too much going on melodically and not enough emotionally. I found them fiddly. Silent Hour / Golden Mile , a five [...]

I wish Silent Hour / Golden Mile was longer, but I still have to admit singer-songwriter Daniel Rossen has pulled together a solid collection of solo material on this 5-track EP. The man's tunes are some of the most masterful in independent music right now. WATCH THE REVIEW

Dan Rossen has always been Grizzly Bear's Earth element, a perfectly polar foil to Ed Droste's more honey-dipped ethereality, and in this video he indulges that grounded, dusty, salt-of-the-earth vibe with a cover of folk standard "Hang Me, Oh Hang Me." It's a one-camera affair against a black backdrop and the levels are imperfect, and yet Rossen comes through perfectly. It's a frame that suits him. Watch it at Vulture .

As a member of Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles , Daniel Rossen has been a driving force in contemporary indie pop for some time now. “Silent Hour/Golden Mile” sheds light into Rossen’s songwriting process and the result is a handful of songs that fans of Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles have come to expect from him. They are masterfully executed tracks that are backboned by Rossen’s strong vocal presence. Aside from an amazing JoJo cover , [...]
Grizzly Bear 's Daniel Rossen has said that for a long time, he only played his music for friends and that it took him years to become comfortable with his voice and performing. Grizzly Bear’s widely acclaimed 2008 release, Veckatimest , made it quite apparent that the Brooklyn-based 29-year-old has grown into a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist dedicated to the complex craftsmanship that goes into making a record. Attention to detail and triumphant melodies sit at the top of the band’s strong suits, and Rossen’s first solo release, Silent Hour/Golden [...]

We've been patiently waiting to rave about "Golden Mile - the closing/half-title track on Daniel Rossen's debut solo EP - for a few months now (as only unofficial streams were making their way around the web), but this week it has become officially available to preview. While I wasn't going to namedrop legendary recordings from the early 1970s and late '60s that spring to mind upon hearing this excellent 5-song set, now that the A.V. Club mentioned George Harrison in their review I'm relieved to know we're not the only one feeling a strong All Things Must [...]

Hearing from old friends is always usually great. Being treated by them is even better. Yesterday Daniel Rossen released his solo EP Silent Hour / Golden Mile . As a Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles fan, it pleases me to see he’s still producing at a high level. He manages to retain the same distinctive sound, while keeping the content fresh and relevant. All five songs on this solo release offer up something special. Whether it be his [...]

25% of Grizzly Bear aka Daniel Rossen brings us another slice of tasty musical pie, this time in the form of new EP Silent Hour/Golden Mile . It represents his first release through Warp and with Grizzly Bear rumoured to be releasing a new album this year, it should make up what will be a busy year for Rossen. Although Grizzly fans will be hoping to hear new material from the band as soon as possible, I don't think many would be disappointed to hear additional solo material from Mr Rossen.

Daniel Rossen confirms once more why he is such a mastermind with his solo EP Silent Hour/Golden Mile , out now on Warp. Makes me even more excited for the new Grizzly Bear full-length that’s coming out this year. Stream the EP below and purchase it over at Warp .

Daniel Rossen, singer/songwriter/guitarist for Brooklyn outfit Grizzly Bear and Department of Eagles, is releasing his first EP on Warp records this year, Silent Hour/ Golden Mile . Coming from such great heights as Grizzly Bear’s critically acclaimed Veckatimest and Department of Eagle’s In Ear Park , this EP comes as no surprise as it is a light adult contemporary-laden indie record filled with what you’ve come to expect and some enjoy from the boys of Grizzly Bear, multi-instrumentalism and choir-boy croons to make the lady’s hearts weep with emotion. The EP begins well enough with the [...]
The solo EP from one of Grizzly Bear’s songwriters is by no means a disappointment.
