Kings of the retro edit Ruben & Ra are at it again. These guys have a knack of taking sections of tracks and making them sound like they were recorded yesterday. they certainly turn up the heat on Roxy Music ’s Don’t Stop The Dance and make it stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this summer’s Tropical hits. The song is pretty groovy to begin with, but Ruben & Ra add a punchy drum track and focus all their attention onto, what now becomes, the prefect beach Disco riff. In Ruben & Ra’s hands a dreamy [...]
Bryan Ferry'nin 1985 tarihli solo albümü Boys & Girls'de yer alan "Don't Stop The Dance", Londra'dan disko, boogie ve funk aşığı, aynı zamanda Retrospective Records sahibi ikili Ruben & Ra'nın elinden "cosmic nu-disco" edit olarak çıkmış. After the success of Rayko’s Juno chart topping ‘People’ EP (Retro006), Retrospective label heads Ruben & Ra step back into the breach for the label’s 7th release. For their 4th outing on the label they came to notoriety on, the West London-based duo came up with the concept of selecting their favorite stateside disco cuts from between 1980 and 1985 and reworking them into 4 entirely new tracks. Already gathering hype, ‘When I’m Feelin’ borrows from Geraldine Hunt’s watershed 1980 classic ‘Can’t Fake The Feeling’, while ‘My Love’ samples the Malibu-based producer Ned [...]
Ruben & Ra’s Retrospective imprint have another gem in the offering. Rayko , fresh from his ‘Broadway’ being hailed as 2011’s No. 1 Disco track on Juno, delivers his take on The O’Jays ‘Put Our Heads Together’. As part of the sixth instalment of Retrospective’s Edit EP series and in pure Edit style Rayko takes all the lush synths and thick bass from The O’Jay’s original and turns things up to 11 for some massive ‘80’s synth Funk. The twanging lead line of the track is highlighted perfectly by Rayko and, if possible, he seems [...]
Midweek Mixes is back with two highly contrasting mixes. Disco, funk and a blend of downtempo, emotional and melodic music.
Montenegro based producer Fil Lavin is the latest edition to Ruben & Ra ’s Retrospective stable. February sees the release of ‘Soul Brother’ his first release, a deep ‘90’s House jam that’s backed with a reMix by Ruben & Ra themselves. Their ‘Souled Out Dub’ is a deep late night groove with a rolling synth bassline and some big lush filtered chords that are just a pleasure to listen to. Keeping the ‘90’s House vibe but bring it to a smoother place R&R have droped a fresh track with a classic feel. [...]

As 2011 approached its end, we decided to make a small selection of tracks and videos we have been meaning to post in the last months, but didn't get the chance to. From Midnight Conspiracy's killer beats to one of 2011 most epic videos, Woodkid's Iron, the selection is wide and for all tastes. Fil [...]

Ruben & Ra are back with another release after bringing Spanish boogie don Rayko to their increasingly watched Retrospective fold for ‘Retro003’, the still unmasked Ruben & Ra emerge once again from the looming shadow of Trellick Tower with another 4-tracker. Dedicating the A-side to the golden era of stateside electro, ‘Street Dance’ lifts samples from Break Machine’s East Coast anthem ‘Street Dance’, while ‘Moving On’ pays homage to the Californian soul of Ollie & Jerry’s iconic ‘There’s No Stoppin Us’ from ‘84. Over on the flip, the Sun is shining brightly with two [...]

Ruben & Ra - Street Machine [ mp3 ] Ruben & Ra are back with an another 4-tracker, Retro004 we give you the the A-side, Street Machine
I thought the title of London Disco duo Ruben & Ra ’s new track was evocative of something very familiar, and I was right. This new tune is their take on Break Machine’s classic ‘Street Dance’ (a bit of a favourite of mine!). Lifting the call-to-dance vocals and that instantly recognisable whistling lead line Ruben & Ra mix it up with a little Nu-Disco, a ‘90’s house organ bass and create a modern anthem. ♫ Ruben & Ra - Street Machine Ruben [...]

Got big love for the Ruben & Ra tag team and the 4th release on Retrospective does nothing but amp that up. After bringing us lots of Rayko magic on the last instalment this time they turn in a solid series of summery tunes. As with all retrospectives they are giving away one of the tracks for free and at 320... not sure what kind of business model that is but props anyways RETRO004 - Ruben & Ra by Ruben & Ra

Well we're getting ready for the Tiger & Woods show here in Miami on October 1st at The Electric Pickle, so I'm particularly in a re-edit mood (when am I not?). Ruben & Ra have even been referred to as "Britain's answer to Tiger & Woods." These guys are best know for their Retrospective series of releases ( retro001 , retro002 , retro003 feat. Rayko ) which primarily sample or re-edit classic electrofunk/boogie tracks like I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz or Mr. DJ by The Concept [...]
