Here's an overdose of some tunes we've been listening to. Let me know what ya'll think in the comment section. DO IT. Our boys No Gold just released a new single... you could call it Junior Boys meets Justice on a downer. No Gold - Good & Bad Priory is a band we've been enjoying for a while now... weather or not they have two one hit wonders is still up for debate. Check out their self titled EP here . Priory - Lady [...]
I've been lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson twice each. Exactly how lucky is that? I don't know. They've all toured non-stop, but Destination Florida is always up in the air. There are some artists, though, that I'm thankful I've had the chance to see just the once, and that one show encompasses everything I hold dear about live music: the surprise, the intimacy, the times when you get so absorbed in the band, deciphering drumbeats and riding pedal steel riffs, that you finally stop worrying about people judging both of your dance moves. Perfect, [...]

Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]

Summerworks What: Summerworks Why: Celebrated long-running theatre festival that added a musical component four years ago. Who: In its short run, Summerworks already counts some of the cream of the current Canadian musical crop as its alumnus - this year's class seems certain to add to that list. For specifics, keep reading. When: There will be six nights of live music double-headers running over the course of the festival's week-and-a-bit duration, with the night-by-night breaking down as follows - there's [...]

Photograph by Sabrina Diemert Toronto's North by Northeast - or NXNE - is the younger cousin and orienteering opposite of the behemoth Austin music extravaganza South by Southwest. Over its 17 years, the festival has swollen to 7 days of concerts (ranging from cozy church acoustic sets to sprawling punk moshing at Yonge and Dundas Square), films (mostly music-centric documentaries, including this year's highly touted Better Than Something: Jay Reatard ) and interactive conferences (if you were a musician and could get advice from Brian Wilson, wouldn't you?). As with any event attempting to [...]

Ruby Coast is a three piece rock and roll band from Toronto. Justice McLellan, Keith Bradford, and Corey Marshall make up Ruby Coast (aside, Justice McLellan is such a sweet name; it just exudes rock & roll swagger). I listened to their release Whatever This Is for the first time on Sunday and I can't believe I missed the release back in January. I've included the first two tracks off of that album: the title track and Stability . You can stream and download the rest of the Whatever This Is [...]

Frank Yang Hands down, the best thing to happen to NXNE in recent years is the designation of Yonge-Dundas Square as the festival's main stage and making the shows staged there - usually featuring the lineup's biggest names - free for everyone. And what's better is that despite being located in pretty much the most central and public place in the city, there's been no signs that they festival has been concerned about diluting the quality of the performances to be a little more family-friendly; witness last year's near-carnage of Iggy & [...]

Toronto - It is now Friday, and NXNE is in full bloom. Are you exhausted yet? Well if you aren't, not sure if you are doing this festival correctly. Tonight's best bet for a one stop shop is the Toronto landmark Sneaky Dee 's. What can you say about Sneaky Dee's? It's an establishment. Every Toronto band has played there, and most of them have ate there, most likely drunk. Their Tuesday half price fajita menu is made of legends. Who hasn't gone there for greasy Mexican breakfast, or their massive nacho plates, some of [...]

I'll be leaving in approximately three hours from Cleveland, weaving my way through the northern scenic regions of Pennsylvania until I finally hit the brakes in Buffalo. After a bout with a basket of chicken wings, the lady and I are headed into the land of Ice Hockey and Rush. We're having a layover in Niagara. I hear them falls are romantic. In any event, by my calculations, this is at least a good 7-8 hours worth of road-trippin' over the next 24 hours. I can't be the only one hitting the open road today/tomorrow with [...]
