Dan Snaith delivers an evening of transcendent genre defiance

Some tracks I've been listening to lately. Check them out and enjoy. Tim Williams - I Hit Another Wall The Jealous Sound - The Fold Out Graffiti 6 - Stare Into The Sun The Little Death - Gather Round Ryan Smith - Good Intentions

"Ryan Smith's music finds middle ground between the far reaches of the indie landscape and the familiarity of pop radio." And that, my friends, sums up this six song EP succinctly. It is, on the whole, middle of the road popish music that you would likely find on any of the "easy listening" stations you skip by when trying to find something worth listening to. These songs are just six blah pieces that fail to stimulate or stir your imagination or feet. Athough Eric Broz of "Just Another Columbus Ohio Music Blog" descibed the album [...]

Ohio singer-songwriter Ryan Smith has a boatload of songs available on his website . His latest album, I Just Want To Feel That Way , is up for grabs as well. Though labeled as indie-pop (and I would normally associate this genre with cheerful songs), the lyrics have a decidedly morose feel, showing it's not all bright and sunshiny after all. I Just Want To Feel That Way : 1. Good Intentions 2. This Is Not A Tragedy [...]

HAHAHA [...]
Out of the Chicago area comes Overman, whose props-to-Darwin song "Evolution Rocks" has the endorsement of the National Science Teachers Association and has been used as a teaching supplement in classrooms. The song is somewhere near the They Might Be Giants ballpark, with a bit of an added-jam band feel. The band members share a five-bedroom farmhouse in Joliet, Illinois, and sound a bit zany,

Ryan Smith's music finds middle ground between the far reaches of the indielandscape and the familiarity of pop radio. His latest album, I Just Want To Feel That Way , was called "the best six Paul Westerberg songs that Paul Westerberg neither wrote nor recorded." That wouldn't be far from the truth. Smith's whiskey coated vocals and slightly rustic sense of songmanship hits the mark. His songs are a smoky, remorseful listen that's quite entertaining and will remind of dusty prairies, hard drinking, and harder times. The perfect musician for these [...]
Kaka (aka Richard Karlsson) sings about the struggle and challenge of life. His upbeat, retro faux-dance tracks give the listen a sense of hope and energy. He shifts gears through genres as diverse as reggae, electro-tinged '80's melodies, and pure indie pop. Through it all he keeps a solid beat, and never gives up. Kaka's self titled album was just released in the UK on March 9th, and he was supposed to come play the Elysium venue at SXSW this past Wednesday but had to cancel his trip. To make up for missing his chance at SXSW he is [...]
The world is brimming with creativity and you can't go one day without stumbling upon signs of that fact. So every now and then it just happens to be that a to me new songwriter or band passes by my field of view, or hearing, and I start liking what I hear with the help from the internet. The world is so neatly constructed that I can just sit in front of the computer and just let all the influences and sounds from all over the world wash over me. It's incredibly convenient. This has led me to dig deeper [...]

I think this guy has a cool thing going.. he has a ton of quality music available on his website , both in high quality mp3 and alternatively WAV format. This is definitely the kind of "indie" that I'm in to - easy to listen to, not too pretentious, and no weird noises for the sake of noises (or some other unknown purpose). Here's what his myspace has to say: Ryan Smith's music finds middle ground between the far reaches of the indie landscape and the familiarity of pop radio. MTV2 and ThePalestra.com have both [...]

I got an email from Ryan Smith , about his album - "I Just Want To Feel That Way" - taking a punt on the title track, I was very pleasantly rewarded; stone me, it's good. I'd pitch it as kind-of Indie/Americana, and vocally, Richard Hawley & Elliott Smith, (with a twang) come to my mind. Ryan's website says the "music finds middle ground between the far reaches of the indie landscape and the familiarity of pop radio" - take your pick eh. This song would certainly get some mainstream radio play [...]

Album name: I Just Want To Feel That Way (EP) Artist name: Ryan Smith Genre: Pop/Rock Released: 2008 Label: n/a ZME Rating: 4/10 Website: ryansmithonline.com I seem to be falling into a pattern of reviewing every EP from every little-known artist that falls across my lap, looking up at me with lonely eyes, begging for some loving attention and a little recognition. Which is fine - I'd like to think that years from now, at least one of these guys [...]
