Ivy Lab - Afterthought feat. Frank Carter III / Brat (CRIT068) After all of the hype and build up to drum and bass' most promising trio dropping their first 12" as Ivy Lab, there isn't really much to say about it/them that hasn't already been plastered all over cyberspace. That, coupled with the fact that we've locked down a special interview with one third of the 'Lab means that I won't bore you with too much preliminary waffle. All you need to know is that despite [...]

Firstly, Happy New Year to one and all. 2012 was quite a year for us and the scene at large but 2013 is now upon us and I for one can't wait to see what it brings while the good ship, EDJ sails on. For our first post of the year it would seem fitting to give you a heads up about some of EDJs favourite producers, Sabre, Stray and Halogenix, who have created dnb's latest tour de force project/name/group 'Ivy Lab'. Hopefully this [...]

Philth is dropping his strong new Inspiration ep out xmas eve on PPRINT, check this below, you should know it. He also gave us five Killer D&B Moments of 2012, the year that a D&B artist... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
BASS STOP #14 "Drive Far Away" is a liquid mix that is perfect for rainy November days - days that you spend in the bus or train reminiscing warmer days. The mix includes two brand new tracks from the upcoming Sick Music 3 sampler which will be released via Hospital Records (Majoy Happy & Rollerball),

Oh yes. This was doing the rounds not too long ago and I think most were hoping it was going to see the light of day in one way or another and given the obvious issues of 'sample' clearance a free download was probably the only option available, and so here we are. Maybe a little bit too 'schmoozy' for some but I for one love it - smooth, soulful and rolling. You've got to 'like' Sabre's facebook to grab it which is annoying but if it's that much of a chore just unlike it straight after if you're that [...]
Foreign Concept has just dropped 'Affliction' on Critical, so caught up and asked about that fantastic tune. FC: Originally, I was given a brief to write a track for Riya's album... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]
This just came out on Monday - Critical Music's 066 release featuring Sabre, Foreign Concept and vocals by Riya. If you're wondering why Riya sounds familiar, it's because she's done so many vocals for various explosive dnb tunes like this one, a personal favourite of mine by Lenzman out on Metalheadz: [Lenzman - Open Page (Feat. Riya)] And this one with Instra:mental and dBridge: [Instra:Mental, dBridge & Riya - Seems Like] The reason I'm bangin on about her vocals on this release is because it's the vocals that really set the depth and the mood to these tracks. And it's not that [...]

It's that time of the week again - time for another edition of Neural Injection. Each week in the column I feature some of the best new tunes in the world of dark and deep drum and bass. No cheesy crap allowed! This week we've got a slew of new releases across a range of styles...strap in tight! Ulterior Motive - Versus EP [Subtitles] Kicking off this week we've got Ulterior Motive 's new release [...]

Vocal DnB, without trying to departmentalise a whole musical component into one assumption, isn’t to everybody’s taste. Some may think it detracts from the essence of the genre somewhat, polishes too much the rawness that they love about the music so. Unfortunately for those people I don’t really subscribe to that school of thought. I believe that DnB, being the mongrel that it is, can successfully incorporate more influences and musical styles than almost any other genre out there. Its inherent restrictions of tempo are really the only thing holding it back, but holding back from what exactly, surely it’s [...]

I can't praise this track enough. Straight to the heart of minimal/liquid drum and bass. Available to all on 27th Feb here ! Sabre, Stray & Halogenix - Oblique ft. Frank Carter III

Tweet I hear good drum n bass all the time . I search it out. My musical taste is wide ranging, but if there's one genre I had to pick as my favourite then drum n bass would win hands down. I know there are loads of drum n bass fans who read SGTMT , but I also know it's not all of you, so I don't post about all the good tunes I hear. I wait until I hear something [...]

That's what Wobble Wednesday is all about. [...]

Maverick Sabre Mix - Xfm Music:Response 08/11/11 by Mary Anne Hobbs on Mixcloud deepgoa.blogspot.com underground music guide _________ © dg , 2011

London genre-benders Kings of the City have just released an excellent new "Covers" EP (which you can sample for free here ). Have to hand it to the blokes in song selection department, Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain", Wretch32's "Don't Go", the classic(!) Sonique track "Feels So Good". Well done, chaps. KotC's frenetic take on "Let Me Go" by Maverick Sabre is our choice track from the set. Give this heatrock a spin below. Kings of the City - Let Me Go (Maverick Sabre) Kings of the City [...]

Hackney born Maverick Sabre is probably best known for his featured vocals on tracks by acts such as Professor Green and Chase & Status. He is often compared to Plan B and could easily pass as his younger brother. Not only do they look similar but both their styles are influenced by grime, hip hop and soul; and this may well be the reason that Maverick was the perfect support act for Plan B's 2010 tour. However, 2011 may be the year that Maverick comes out of Plan B's shadow and is recognised in his own right. Read [...]
