I guess I missed this when it was announced earlier this year, but raucous Portland trio The Thermals have a new album out next month and have signed to one of my long-time favorite record labels, Saddle Creek . Here’s the opening track “Born To Kill”, which is catchy, loud, fast and short, so everything a good punk tune should be. Desperate Ground is out 4/16 on Saddle Creek Records .

Portland post-pop-punk act The Thermals have signed to Saddle Creek Records and announced a new album is on the way. The trio's new album is entitled Desperate Ground and will be out April 16. This will be the band's sixth record and first on the Saddle Creek label. Saddle Creek is a colourful, independent record label based in Omaha, Nebraska. Established in 1993, Lumberjack Records released cassettes as a way to promote friends of the label that were playing in Omaha based bands at the time. Some of those bands are still around today and the majority are not, but many of the same players still remain on the Saddle Creek roster (e.g. Bright Eyes and Cursive). When we caught PUJOL at SXSW this year I was surprisingly energetically his set came off; he was more punk rock than garage pop. But, as the date draws near for the release of his United States of Being , which hits on June 5th via Saddle Creek , it seems that he's going to show a bit more restraint on his recorded material.
