STARS RECORDING NEW ALBUM. Exciting new update from the Stars camp, our favorite Canadian indie-pop collective who have been leaking material at a satisfying drip, including last year's delectable treat the Sad Robots EP . Looks as if the group has a new album in the works, tentatively titled The Black House, The Blue Sky , and it's being recorded in the same studio where the likes of Godspeed! You Black Emperor committed their hits to tape. This album also marks the return of Set Yourself [...]
Stars graced the town of Ithaca with it's presence yesterday and I count myself fortunate to be among those who were present. The trip down was relatively painless despite the cold and a pit stop for an impromptu bathroom break in the creepy desolation of a roadside forest. I joined the throng of cleverly coiffed individuals making their way to the Ithaca State Theatre where Kevin Devine was already onstage amidst many instruments adorned in decorative flowers. He made his way through a spirited acoustic performance, pouring his heart out into two microphones, at varying distances for effect, even [...]
Stars [Myspace] is a band from Montréal that uses heaping helpings of romantic/revolutionary themes in every one of their songs. It's an effect that has left them as one of the few indie bands whose...

What do you get when you take Amy Millan out of Canandian troupe Stars and replace her with a guy? Answer: Memphis . That's basically all there is to it. Memphis's instrumentation is so similar to that of Stars that if Amy Millan's ethereal voice wasn't missing I wouldn't notice the difference. For real. Memphis is Torquil Campbell (the other Stars vocalist) and one of his longtime friends, Chris Dumont. It's essentially Campbell's side project while not recording with the rest of his crew. If you like Stars, you will probably like Memphis. [...]
After seeing Stars play the second night in Ottawa Which I didn't regret. I bought the tour only EP called Sad Robots and its also out on iTunes for those that couldn't see them live. Onto the review After alot of listening to the EP. I absolutely love it. I know they have changed their style on In Our Bedroom After The War. But it just has that theme of sad and loneliness on Sad Robots . Maintenance [...]

I decided on a spur of the moment and watch Stars play the 2nd night show in Ottawa. I didn't go for the first sold out show because I went to see Two Hours Traffic instead. Even more photos on WGTS with Think About Life too. The second night wasn't packed or totally sold out because mostly alot of people went to the first night and probably didn't want to see them again. It was more a laid back and [...]

What music lover doesn't appreciate a perfectly appropriate album title? Stars' latest EP, Sad Robots is laced with beautifully arranged digital noise that sound like the whale cries of the robotic depressed. Oddly enough, that's a compliment. The six track digital release is anchored by slick piano melodies that form the foundation of a warmly-produced extended play that could have been the soundtrack to Tom Cruise's Vanilla Sky . The music really begins with the second track, "A Thread Cut With A Carving Knife." Here, the earnest, melodic [...]

Stars at Town Hall in Fall 2007 On September 1, Stars , one of my favorite bands of all time, released their Sad Robots EP . I wouldn't say the tracks are especially mind-blowing, but in traditional Stars fashion, the songs still move me in a certain way. I have to say that Stars is one of the few bands that actually make me feel emotion when I listen to their recorded music. With "Undertow," it's the beautiful bass line, coupled with the piano melody, with sprinkled lyrics (I [...]
Canadian indie pop group Stars surprised fans when they posted a cryptic link on their MySpace page that later revealed itself to be the announcement of the release of their Sad Robots EP. This was, undoubtedly, a most welcome surprise. This six-song EP has electronica elements that are reminiscent of their 2001 debut album Nightsongs as [...]

INTERVIEW WITH THE ACTION DESIGN So for a myriad of reasons, including but not limited to transportation issues and the Republican National Convention being cut short due to Hurricane Gustav, the Cannibal Cheerleader crew did not manage to make it up to Minnesota to film the protests. The good news however is this week will feature the same regular updates you all know and love, starting with an interview we were really honored to conduct with one of our favorite bands of the year the Action Design . TAD is of [...]
So I've been pretty impressed with Stars since...um...I first heard of them way back when Nightsongs came out. Well they're at it again and about to embark on a new tour with the fabulous Bell X1. For this tour they've adopted a new visual and audio them, Sad Robots . Fans attending these select shows will not only get Stars' magnificent sound, but they've packed in some visual excitement too. For those able to attend, be sure to look out for the Sad Robots limited edition EP featuring 5 brand spanking new tracks and a [...]
