Butchy Fuego aka San Gabriel's dark, cave-rave track "Gore Text," a standout from last year's Volfe LP, now has the most appropriate visual counterpart. Shot by Tony Lowe in upstate New York and Ashland Mines, ... read more

Talented California producer Butchy Fuego, aka. San Gabriel , has new mixtape out that hones in on the hyper-contemporary breadth of his many leftfield influences. Containing many of his own productions, much of the mix is firmly dancefloor-oriented, and recalls aspects of the pan-globalism of Kingdom and the forward-thinking willful eclecticism of Gobby, while throwing some spooky dub inflections and snippets of r&b into the mix as well. Keep an eye out for some fresh releases this year on both Time No Place and Leaving Records .

Time No Place clued us in on Sept/Ember , a new EP from San Gabriel they're giving away on his soundcloud for free. It's a bit different from the sounds on VOLFE , with minimal, uptempo house tracks that perspire under their jungle canopy. You can download it for free by clicking here .

Tropical rave producer San Gabriel has slowly trickled out a free new EP in the last month on soundcloud. Like its predecessor, the Volfe 12" on the expertly-curated LA imprint Time No Place , Sept/Ember traces out a kind of pan-global techno, tonally reminiscent of classic Chicago and Detroit soundscapes, and rhythmically drawing on various post-dubstep and futuristic r&b trajectories. Free download available from the San Gabriel soundcloud .

Tanline by sangabriel The first time the gun went off in San Gabriel's "Tanline," all the plates and cups on my table started shaking their asses. By the time the second shot was fired, it was like a kinky spring break meets the kitchen scene from Beauty and the Beast. It got so dirrrrrty in here, I have to wash everything now. —Daiana Feuer

Based out of Los Angeles, Time No Place works with forward-thinking artists who explore the sounds of tomorrow. They're my favorite experimental electronic label on the West coast, and I feel very fortunate to have Tim Jones (aka Chat Room ), who co-runs the label, contribute to our Substitute Teachers series. I asked Tim a few questions after listening to his mix. Was there a particular artist or album that inspired you to create TNP ? I wouldn't say that there was [...]

"Montaña de Tormenta" is one of the wilder tracks from San Gabriel 's phenomenal debut on Time No Place , juxtaposing cumbia basslines with rude-boy samples and a high pitched vocal squeal that rises above its tropical melancholia. Volfe is out digitally right now , and you should also pick up the vinyl when it's out on June 26.
There was a point where it felt like Boredoms might have been the secret originators of like all music ever. It wasn't that they had been around since the beginning of time or anything, it's ... read more
