Minnesota's 'Bloom' has finally convinced me to post my melodic dubstep mixtape and actually gave me the idea for a more appropriate name, melodic bass, although it's all just words by now. So look out for that in the next coming weeks, but until then check out why Bloom has inspired me so much. Like I already hinted at, it's got one catchy melody supported by a beautiful bass line. Pot may be legal in Colorado and Washington State now, but the students of UC Santa Cruz have one of the longest-running, highest-profile 4/20 traditions going anywhere. Last weekend, as they do every year on 4/20, students gathered on campus to brazenly smoke pot outdoors. Making no attempt to hide, the students make it easy for cops to show up and rain on the parade, which they do every year. This year, however, cops showed up to confiscate the usual array of dime bags and bongs but struck the motherlode: a four-foot-long, 2.5-pound joint worth an [...]

So I don't watch nearly enough television, but thanks to Twitter's couch potato cavalry, every now and then I am exposed to the most incredibly heart-stopping, jaw-dropping moments that cable TV has to offer. The latest is courtesy of one recent episode from Nat Geo Wild's series "World's Weirdest" in which a zombie snake continues to attack a man on his Santa Cruz property even after getting its head cut off! If you've already eaten lunch, I do not recommend watching. h/t @TheSSMiriam [...]

Foreign Talks: Foreign Talks – Foreign Talks is anything but foreign. Listening to their self-titled debut, set to release on April 16th, is like hanging out with your best friends. Foreign Talks as a whole is relatable, complete with an air of ambitious aspirations. All under the age of twenty, Marcus Fischer, Madison Fischer, Kevin Downes and Tanner Steinmetz have created an album full of flawless harmonizing and swoon-worthy acoustic guitar work. Although this is their first full length album, Foreign Talks sound like they are old-hats at the music business game. Together [...]

Ugh! Marry me Gold Motel, or at least collab with Spoon. This falls off a little at the end but some real nice poignancy in the notes of the chorus. Such a tender, light cohesiveness all around. It would be great if there was some sort of splash of bold at the end, like screaming or a moo-ing. I know, me and the mooing . I like weird, just not too weird . Like, a precise measured dose of weird. Ooh or maybe have the guy with the deep Oak Ridge boys bass voice do some spoken [...]
It should come as no surprise to learn that acclaimed songwriter Erin McKeown had decided to chuck the whole label thing and go it alone. Or that she would fully embrace her political activism in her songwriting . As she puts it, "Everything had to change." Forthcoming fan-funded January 15 album Manifestra -- a word she coined to describe "a clear action from a female perspective" -- promises to flex [...]

Monday Music’s the one weekly post wherein Some Of It Was True! drops its London-only rule TOPS - Turn Your Love Around From the same label ( Arbutus Records ) as Grimes (decidedly a Good Thing), TOPS have a cosy, jaunty, richly-melodic sound - that is, until all goes skittish and happily screechy at the end. Not to mention a terrific video shot at Toronto's Northern Secondary School dance class for deaf students, whose sashaying and shuffling provides a [...]
The sinister sequel to Orange Sunshine, a true magnum opus, dramatic doom and manic drone metal mixed with creeping elements of theatrical gothic horror pop, bad acid trip drug rock, superseventies' heroin boner boogie, angry desert blues soundscapes, and even some epic classical philharmony, romantic guitar music and neo-folk, all blended together into one long, dark and psychotic orchestral
Santa Cruz's Aeropsia (Dane Ostrander) makes electronic music much like his moniker suggests. Aeropsia is a transitory visual disease that clouds a persons vision with a dream-like haze and... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Santa Cruz, Cali’s very own “Minnesota” aka Christian Bauhofer delivers us this killer remix of the classic, California Dreamin. This track is tasty. Enjoy.
This is what we wish our garage bands sounded like...

I was lucky enough to take a trip to Bolivia over the last 2 weeks, and have now only just started to shake the remnants of a pretty ferkin horrible journey home. Bolivia is an amazingly beautiful country and everyone i met bar too many tourists with hiking boots and bad dreadlocks were awsome people. I managed to check a few cities and have included a bunch of photos taken mostly by my lady who lucky for you takes way better photos than me. To top off this post of greatness i included some tunes that got me through fever induced [...]

I don't know if I can stray away from the original just yet, but I couldn't deny myself a Minnesota remix of my favorite Kraddy track. Minnesota does his usual blissful synths coupled with hypnotizing bass buzzin and plays wells with Erica Dee's sultry vocals. Couldn't ask for a better man to remix a better song!

Exactly 11 years ago, Miles Zuniga was jetting off to Amsterdam with his Austin-based alt-rock outfit Fastball to try to put some touring muscle behind its latest release, The Harsh Light Of Day. Expectations were high, given the surprising mainstream success of 19982s All The Pain Money Can Buy, which the band milked for almost [...]
