Today's song is "Santa Fe" by The Pear Traps . This song is off the Chicago based band's newest Elwhere EP. The Elsewhere EP follows the band’s 2011 self-titled EP, which Delusions of Adequacy described as generating a "decidedly hypnotic atmosphere." Chicago blog, Windy City Rock, also took notice and deemed it "Joy Division-goes-Americana." This song has a hazy melodic sound that is laced with 19802s lo-fi aesthetic that makes for some incredible catchy indie rock music. The vocals of Listen below and for more information on The Pear Traps check out their [...]
Beirut's latest video from The Rip Tide is a melancholic yet peaceful journey over the ocean.

Zach Condon and his merry band Beirut shuffled back into the limelight last night with a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno! playing their stellar track "Santa Fe" off last year's The Rip Tide . Incidentally, it's been six months to the day since Beirut took to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform the same song, if you want to compare and contrast .
You want retro? Beirut will give you retro!

Words by Jim I could probably hype this show enough with the following sentence "Beirut is coming to town this weekend" and call it a night. That's all the preview this town needs. Seriously. The weekend appearance of Beirut is totally sold out, which is awesome, but the best part is they sold out TWO SHOWS BACK TO BACK. It's not often that happens no matter how big the band is. I can't remember (ever) an indie band playing back to back shows in Pittsburgh, let alone, selling them out. Very exciting. [...]

Beirut was on Fallon last night to promote their most recent project, The Rip Tide , and did a lovely performance of "Santa Fe." If you've seen Beirut's episode of the Take Away Show , you'll know that the band's lead singer/instrumentalist Zachary Francis Condon (Beirut was originally his solo project) is an all-around solid live performer through and through, lacking in neither stage presence nor talent. Plus, how many bands can bring out the horns? Hit the jump to watch Beirut perform "Santa Fe"...
Beirut stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to perform “Santa Fe.” Zach Condon and his trumpet is a wonderful sight. Skip ahead to 36:00. Beirut - “Santa Fe”

It seems pretty odd for a band to be doing a hard late night television show push a few months after the release of their album but that's what Beirut has been doing lately and last night saw them making the only late night appearance that they should feel obligated to play. Fallon seems to me to be the only late night talk show host that really seems to love the music and when he says "Hey, that was great!" he really means it unlike some other hosts. I'm looking at you Letterman.

As we mentioned back in August , we couldn't wait to dig into Beirut's fresh album titled The Rip Tide . Beirut has the full brass section, vocals from lead vocalist and founder of the band Zachary Francis Condon and an overall orchestrated sound unlike any other band out there today. This week's Song of the Week is inspired by Zach's hometown, Santa Fe. Need we say it again? This song will most definitely be in our top 100 songs for this year. Check out the rest of Beirut's The Rip [...]
