[Playlist] The Best Albums of 2012

“'All the Rowboats' is far and away the most powerful song on the record (if not the most powerful song Spektor has written to date), even if on first read-through of the lyrics, it’s about a depressing pass through a museum. A haunting piano piece does wonders to cut the soul. The piece rises and falls like a boat caught in a sea storm, and you feel trapped in both the calm and comparative chaos until it ends in what could be small explosions, holes being blasted out of the hull, ultimately sinking the ship and all hopes of survival." December has cometh and thus, so does the annual round up. We're beginning with albums, and opting for a top fifteen only. Whittling down this list has been tough, but we're finally happy with our choices, so, let us commence. 15. Solange - True Solange ’s ‘True’ is latecomer to the album of the year stakes, having only been released a couple of weeks back, and in actuality, is an EP rather than a full album. However, it’s very much worthy of a nod owing to its [...]

Now that I've run down my 50 favorite songs of the year, it's time to move onto my Top 25 Albums of 2012 . I easily could have listed 50 here, too, but I realized that half of those would have been albums that I only listen to when I'm in a particular mood. In other words, they're not immediately accessible, and that to me knocks them down a notch. So, if you're looking for 25 releases that you can immediately dive into and love, this is the place to be. Enjoy. [...]
Santigold brings on the weirdness, and guest GZA, in her new self-directed video: "The Keepers."

Exploring the dichotomy of America's fascination with "a return to family values" juxtaposed against the tragic consequences experienced during the most shameful chapter of racial & political divide of the American 19502s and 602s, Santigold 's official video for 'The Keepers' is immediately poignant in spite of it's caricatures. The video goes a long way to explaining the deeper and richer meaning behind the song, still one of our favorites of the year.
Santigold has come out with a video for new single, “The Keepers”. In this creepy mock up of the old school suburban lifestyle, this out of touch family has some serious issues to work out. Santigold is just adorable dancing around in her blonde wig. Go get Master of My Make-Believe now . Santigold - “The Keepers”

I dig the music videos that dig at the idea of the "perfect American family." It's a tried and true concept that can be awesome when done right. Santigold takes that approach on her new video for "The Keepers", a song that tests the complacency of American culture. Watch the new video below off her latest LP, Master of My Make-Believe .
The new Santigold album Master Of My Make-Believe was something that many people were looking forward to but when it dropped it left people a little underwhelmed and deflated, falling far short of her debut self-titled album. The album did have quite a few bumper tracks though, "The Keepers" being one of them for which she has a new video, for which you can watch below, for which you may or may not thank me later, for which I may [...]

Santigold nos presenta el video de "The Keepers" el nuevo sencillo de su segunda producción Master of My Make-Believe, disco que ha recibido criticas muy variadas. En el video podemos ver una critica social acompañada de un "beat muy bailable".
Having waxed lyrical about Santigold's "Fame" just a few weeks ago we're delighted to feature the video for new single "Disparate Youth" off of the excellent 'Master of My Make-Believe' album. Tune in later this week for an exclusive Santigold giveaway ompetition on Cougar Microbes! TRACKS: Santigold - Disparate Youth [Amateur Best Remix] by Santigold Santigold [...]
We gotta keeper! "Fame" off Santigold's new album 'Master of My Make-Believe' is a major standout even amongst a clamoring of other vibrant tracks. This jam is one of those slow, grinding types that's got rhythm hidden in places you'd least expect it. Its chorus will have you contorting to keep up with the groove. In [...]
Santigold brings her Brooklyn-bred edge, embracing presence, and stripped down show to Club Nokia in Los Angeles.

Santigold - Master of My Make-Believe It’s been four year since Santigold’s debut album, Santogold , and a lot has changed in the world of alternative pop music. A good amount of this four-year span was spent working on the sound for a follow-up, and it certainly shows in the rich, eclectic instrumentation and attention to detail. With help from producers and guest musicians such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, TV On [...]

No one brings back memories of a summer spent in the Lower East Side of Manhattan like Santigold. This first single from her new album captures just that essence. Pronounced lyrics pressed upon a chill reggae-inspired melody with a surprising guitar riff - no one but Santigold can put all this elements to fruition and still make it sound ready for street speaker. It's time some recognition was given to artists who merge genres beautifully but do not fit nicely on nomination ballots. What Santigold is going her is fusing many different sound into one midtempo track. Had it been [...]

With Santigold 's sophomore album Master of My Make-Believe being released yesterday, what better way to kick off its release than with a visit to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show. I've always said, there's something so magical about Santigold 's work - encased in authenticity, with a pure unadulterated approach that blends all her influences into a remarkable sound of now! Not yet heard the entire album, so I can't speak on it, but with the star-studded production roster which includes Q-Tip , [...]

A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Lower Dens , Patrick Wilson , and Santigold , as well as the debut LP from Father John Misty and the first Norah Jones record i've ever been excited about. As always, be sure to check out [...]
After four, long awaited years, Santigold is back with her sophomore release.

Contributed by Brian Litwin Off Santigold's sophomore album, Master of My Make-Believe , dropping May 1st, "Look At These Hoes" is a change up from her first single, "Disparate Youth". Still, "Hoes" continues to show off Santigold's unique style and versatility. Catch Santigold currently on tour opening for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers on the US leg of the I'm With You tour. Hear a full stream of the Master of My Make-Believe album over at NPR . [...]
