Washington's Sasquatch! Festival took place over the weekend, a heavy-hitting four day lineup featuring people like Jack White, St. Vincent. Bon Iver, Beck, Sanitgold, the Shins, Feist, Metric and dozens more. Stereogum contributor Alex Crick was on hand to behold and snap some great shots. Check out his gallery up top.

A few of my favorite new releases this week, including the latest from Lower Dens , Patrick Wilson , and Santigold , as well as the debut LP from Father John Misty and the first Norah Jones record i've ever been excited about. As always, be sure to check out [...]

Santigold - Master Of My Make Believe Santigold's 2008 debut album was a bold and original piece of work, but has she lost any of her magic in the intervening four year period? Master Of My Make Believe is another enjoyable and eclectic album, featuring production from Diplo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Boys Noize, and while it will be enough to keep Santi on our collective radar, it doesn't quite have the same powerful, fearless energy as album number one.

Baltimore band Lower Dens finally release Nootropics this week after much well-deserved hype. While Twin-Hand Movement may have been good, Nootropics sees Lower Dens find their own place in the scene with a rewarding, excellent experience. The krautrock-tinged lead single "Brains" was our KEXP Song of the Day several weeks ago. The track was one continuous build of energy that left you kind of puzzled but altogether satisfied, like an old Neu song. Nootropics is an extension of the oddly enticing energy that "Brains" had begun. Lower Dens is [...]
Happy May! Last week in NYC, the inconsistent spring climate made summer seem eons away. This week, though, maybe waiting for warmer weather won’t seem as excruciating. After all, we’ve been waiting for these albums for a while, and they finally came! Orifice Origami - Reptar // Buy Sebastian - Reptar // Buy Reptar (@reptarathens) earned a spot on The Wild Honey Pie’s list of favorite EPs last year, making their debut full-length highly [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Free MP3 Download of the Day Getty Images The 2012 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas kicks off March 13. Beer will be guzzled and meat will be smoked in immense quantities while journalists and music fans trip about the sunny terrain of the weirdest city in the South. This year, the SXSW Music and Media Conference celebrates its 26th anniversary, but if you [...]
Friday, February 24, 2012 Today's Quick Mention: Don't forget that if you're looking for a show or two to catch this weekend you can check out the SOTO Facebook page for recommendations! Five tracks for you. Enjoy. : Santigold - Disparate Youth : Santigold's lengthy absence had me a bit worried about her sophomore full length, but both of the songs released so far have been really good. Here's hoping she still has a handful [...]
Austin City Limits served as the ultimate break from the status quo, an ephemeral voyage to a utopia far removed from normative daily life, embedded in the heart of one America's most interesting cities. Also, the extended weekend was a long overdue first trip to Austin, TX for me personally, and I immediately became enamored with the place (a city with great live music and great Mexican food - is this real life ?). The familiar ambitions of seeing as many bands as humanly possible and packing a month's worth of debaucherousness [...]

And cue the collective sigh of relief (or remorse, depending): festival season is over. Basically. With the triumphant conclusion of Arcade Fire on Friday night, the 2011 installments of the "Big Four" are officially kaput. There are a few minor festivals here and there left for fall and winter to tide us over until next April in Indio, but by and large we've seen what 2011 had to offer. We don't want to get too sentimental or take the spotlight away from Austin City Limits , but it was a hell of a year, folks. From Dave Grohl and [...]
