Words by Brendan I like The Happy Hollows so much that the opening guitar/bass riff to "Faces" is my ringtone. Seriously, call me. We'll talk about this rockin' trio and their snappy tunes and their wild videos. What, you don't have my number? Guess you better keep reading ... The Happy Hollows / Faces The Happy Hollows / Big Bad Wolf The Happy Hollows / Meteors I really can't even [...]
"Paint a Rocket" is the new song from Pisces , the experimental folk-pop explorations of Happy Hollows frontwoman Sarah Negahdari. A shredder in her indie-rock trio, Negahdari takes on a whole new persona as Pisces. Both in her initial video "Voodoo" [ see our post from October ] and in "Paint a Rocket," Pisces takes a spacious, dreamy approach to folk — suggesting '60s greats Sandy Denny and Annie Haslam, though not quite in that vocal pantheon. The new song's choral-bordering-on-baroque backdrop bears of the fingerprints of Dios' Joel Morales, who produced the EP that is coming out in [...]

Those who've witnessed Sarah Negahdari perform outside her role as frontwoman / pixie shredder of the L.A. indie-rock trio the Happy Hollows know that her imagination can run wild, and rope listeners into accompanying her to a far-off place. "Negahdariland," it's been called, and it seems to be the birthplace of her solo work, which she's undertaking as Pisces. The music falls more in the experimental pop vein, and the video for her first single "Voodoo," starring Negahdari and Heather Pollock and filmed by her Hollows bandmate Charlie Mahoney, purrs with intrigue. A Pisces EP is on the [...]

We here around THE CULTURE OF ME were once obsessed with all things relating to Sassy and Dirt magazines. And while those titles are long gone, the sentiment of how they covered the culture industries has indeed left its mark...
When talking about L.A. band Happy Hollows , it's all about lead singer and primary songwriter Sarah Negahdari. She's been called many things like "one of the coolest women of rock" by Wired magazine and a "rock goddess" by The Huffington Post . All of these tags being fully deserved as evidenced by her intense and energy packed live shows. No slouches themselves, band-mates Charlie Mahoney and Chris Hernandez joined up in 2006 to form the 3 piece band after Negahdari had done mostly open mic nights for several years. Coming into 2010, The Happy [...]

The Happy Hollows provide the post-punk soundtrack to the night at LA's Spaceland.
The Happy Hollows self-released their first album Spells in October—satisfying months of local anticipation—and today they begin their month-long residency at Spaceland. Bassist Charles Mahoney speaks now about the new album, his new book on Latin America insurgencies and making friends with French people at CMJ. This interview by Britt Witt.
Negahdari embodied a homecoming queen—her chest resplendent with glitter. She'd choke up on the mic thanking the audience with I love YOU ALL's. She flailed and screeched while Charlie Mahoney's fingers wove spider webs around his bass strings. Before the rhythm and before the melody came the sound's impact. Like a bully's push it was. The Happy Hollows' first crunch made my skin shake. The songs loudly proceeded, carving a funnel of love and slipped along its smooth slope to fun house heaven.
We locals find it funny to call Spells the debut of Happy Hollows . The band has been rocking Los Angeles for a couple years now, so this is hardly an introduction. Instead, Spells serves up a whopping mouthful. Sarah Negahdari rips her guitar open like a bag of candy, smothering herself in gooey sticky delirium. She might be the wild woman, but Charles Mahoney (bass) and Chris Hernandez (drums) absolutely get it.

One of my favorite bands from the Silver Lake scene is The Happy Hollows . Always energetic and enigmatic, they're a power-trio who inspire their crowds to rock out as much off the stage as they do on. (Read our review of their DC show last year here .) Plus, they're all incredibly nice people, with an incredible sense of humor (Sarah Negahdari is definitely in the running for the "cool as Kim Deal" award for sure), so double-win. The Hollows are heading out on the road for a handful of dates to support their first [...]

Given my penchant for the various earobic goodies that keep coming from the Silver Lake music scene, I'm always thrilled to see the live version when one of the bands happens to make the trek east. This thrill gets even more amped when it's a long-time favorite such as The Happy Hollows / MSPCE who played here last week at The Red and the Black. The Hollows, a three-piece who play rhythmic indie-pop songs punctured with jagged rock edges, had been namechecked to me countless times by bands and reviewers from that scene, and all with the same [...]

LA-based noise-poppers, The Happy Hollows [ Official Site , Myspace ], are coming here to New York in a few weeks for CMJ , so I thought we should take a second to pass along some of the new info from their upcoming EP, Imaginary . The Happy Hollows are an infectious trio, one that will surely score big with the kids and folks packed into the Blender Theater that night, but don't take my word for it. Come grab some mp3s and read more info [...]
