The eponymous SBTRKT album (pronounced 'Subtract'), was a top-release of 2011 in my eyes and included one of my favorites, "Hold On". Always a sucker for remixes, I was very pleased to open my soundcloud today to a version by LA producer/DJ, Them Jeans . This dj-friendly bootleg puts a housey spin on the beat and slows the tune down about 10 bpm while still maintaining the minimal sounds of the original. Not everybody was really enthousiastic about this SBTRKT cover of "Blue Casette" by Friendly Fires. But after playing it a few times, I can say I really like this cover. He played this on BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge, together with a live version of his next single "Hold On". Pretty great stuff, if you ask me. Stereogum mentions this too: "According to Australia’s triple j , SBTRKT and Friendly Fires will collaborate for each of their respective, upcoming albums." Bloody nice! SBTRKT and Sampha took some time recently to visit BBC Radio 1 's Annie Mac, recording his Live Lounge Session. After finishing a live version of "Hold On", a track from his self-titled debut LP, the pair also graced our ears with a fantastic cover of Friendly Fires ' "Blue Cassette". SBTRKT blew up this year and Drake hopping on to remix one of his songs only fueled his awareness even more so. He's looking to continue off of the build up with the release of his next single "Hold On" which will have a B-side that'll feature "Ride to Freedom". This songs reminds me of slept in summers and PS2 vide game all nighters. The good ol' days.
